In space, no one can hear you scream. Well, almost... Finished this piece a few days ago and have a couple of words to say. At its core, it's a straightforward, heavily scripted FPS, but what truly makes it shine is its atmosphere. The environmental design captures the look and feel of the original "Alien" films so perfectly that simply walking through the corridors becomes a pleasure in itself. Much like "Scorn", this is a game you can enjoy visually even when nothing is happening. The sound design only enhances this effect - the audio work is sharp, authentic, and genuinely impressive. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612758557 Of course, the gameplay still carries the imprint of its VR origins. Movement is limited, there's no real agility or verticality, and the pacing can feel restrained. Instead, the game introduces a dash mechanic, which ends up being surprisingly useful. Resource management is barely a concern - supplies are plentiful even on the highest difficulty, so sooner or later the whole experience starts to feel like a sci-fi shooting attraction. Fortunately, it's an entertaining one. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612758116 Story-wise, the game doesn't try to reinvent anything. You play as Zula Hendricks, accompanied by her android partner, responding to a distress signal from a distant planet. The setup immediately feels familiar, and the early moments make it clear that the facility is not quite what it seems. It follows the classic "Alien" formula - which isn't a bad thing - but it's important to note that this is only the first chapter and it ends on a cliffhanger. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3612758805 Despite being labeled as “horror,” the game rarely manages to be frightening. It tries, but in practice it feels more like a themed ride than a tense survival horror experience. Still, I genuinely enjoyed my time with it. I've always had a soft spot for compact, linear shooters - especially ones wrapped in stylish, lovingly crafted aesthetics. I believe that you'll like it as well, if you are a franchise fan.

I stopped playing after reaching a point in the game where I had completely exhausted all available ammunition, largely due to enemies being scripted to respawn at my location every 2–3 minutes. Progressing further required ammo for a specific objective that I won’t spoil, and because ammunition does not respawn, I was unable to continue. If constant enemy respawns are part of the intended gameplay loop, then ammunition should also replenish over time to maintain balance. While the game itself is enjoyable, this issue is game-breaking and brought my progression to a complete halt. I would still recommend it, but advise players not to idle for extended periods and to be selective about which enemies they engage.

Positives: + Great atmosphere and feeling of isolation on a cold, distant planet + Respects and pays homage to the first two Alien films + The xenomorphs look great and move realistically (most times) + Fantastic sound design and adequate soundtrack + Gives the Alien fans a good fix on a single player campaign after many years + Fair price Negatives: - Not a AAA experience. The graphics are serviceable (nothing special) and there are very few cut-scenes - The story is ok, but nothing to write home about. Also ends on a cliffhanger - Can be completed in 6-8 hours and does not offer much in terms of replayability - Only 3 guns (plus grenades) available to the player and the xenomorphs can't be dismembered - Can feel repetitive at times

TL;DR: Grab it if you like the Aliens series, but wait for a sale. First things first, this is a conversion from a VR to a standard PC FPS game. That said, I would say its a solid entry in the Alien series. Gameplay is pretty basic, you'll be wandering around a facility killing xeno's, rewiring junction boxes to access new areas/rooms, accessing data terminals to read the employees emails and "secret" messages. You'll scavenge for stims (medkits basically) and ammo for your weapons. There's only 3 weapons, however: M41A Pulse Rilfe, a 6 shot revolver, and a 6 round shotgun. You also get a welder, but its only for de-welding doors to open shortcuts basically and for using it against a xeno to get an achievement. (missed opportunity imo to weld doors to make a stand against incoming xenos, maybe in part 2) Sound is also pretty decent, but to me the most impressive part was the atmosphere. Wandering through the facility, smoke blowing out through broken pipes, lights flickering, wondering when another xeno was going to attack me. It felt like a definite "Aliens" experience. The xenomorphs AI is... eh. I love that they can appear from anywhere, at anytime, ceiling, floor, wall doesn't matter, it nails the paranoia of "where the hell is it". Sometimes it seems like they try to be sneaky too. They'll flatten themselves against surfaces and use the vents/ceiling conduits to mask their approach. Aside from that, the AI is really basic, once spotted they'll just try to attack you, which is pretty easy to avoid. Or they might wander up and down walls/ceilings trying to figure out how they want to attack. Who knows lol. The story was alright, if standard fare. You play as Zula Hendricks, an AWOL Marine with back problems (and was also a character in some Aliens comics apparently?) You investigate a distress signal from a research facility, one which your friend was working on. The most interesting part to me, comes at the very end, which seems like a mistake to me. They could have threaded the ideas throughout the messages you find throughout your playthrough (or maybe they did and I missed the subtext) Overall I'd recommend it, but I'd definitely say to wait for a sale. A single playthrough on hard only took me about 8 hrs. It probably wouldn't be but a few more hours to get all the achievements.

I KNEEL. Like the best parts of Alien Versus Predator 2 and Alien Isolation combined. The AI was sloppy until I turned up difficulty to Expert - And damn now I am terrified constantly. Very solid graphics, very good audio design, INCREDIBLE atmosphere reminescent of best Alien games, on top of it it's not a simple shooter, but *almost* a proper survival horror game - Slow, methodical, tons of exploration, some cool puzzles (I love the connecting power cables minigame, it's neat in just the right way), metroidvania-style half-open world, a really good story connected to wider Alien mythos and not just a random one-off, written really well and with good voice acting. Helen, we didn't deserve you. Surprisingly good and smooth movement - You're slow and vulnerable like in a horror game, but as far as polish of inputs and animation goes, it's damn proper work here. The gunplay is the weakest part, being a bit clunky against a bit too tanky enemies with sub-par hit reactions, and enemy AI can bug out every now and then, BUT... They got Aliens right. They exist on a whole freaking different level than you, with the entire base being a maze of scaffoldings, under-ceilling constructions, vent systems, and they're ON TO YOU but do it in the most surprising ways possible, jumping from one hidden corner to the next, sneaking onto you quietly, and you start to grow a paranoia that each second you're not scanning the environment with the motion tracker you're walking right into an ambush. Like, minutes ago, I was at the end of a corridor, *something* was closing in on motion tracker, and I was looking around and the damn place was EMPTY while the tracker pinged it was *right on top of me*! I peeked into some broken window into another room, and then a xenomorph jumped out of it at me and in panic I wasted half of my magazine to put the bastard down! HOW COOL IS THAT? I KNEEL. I F*CKING KNEEL.
