This voyage marked me return to the Assassin’s Creed since the very first tale, many a year ago and by Neptune’s beard, what a journey it was. The world still shines like gold, the towns and ports teeming with life, each harbor boasting its own soul and character. From sailing the open ocean to hacking through dense jungles, plunging beneath shark-infested waves, and storming mighty forts, every adventure added more gunpowder to the voyage. This game captures the Golden Age of Piracy in the Caribbean better than any tale I’ve heard...a perfect 10/10, says I. The combat ran smooth as rum down me throat, though it creaked a little bit like an old deck plank but for a game over a dozen years old, I’ve little to complain about except that it was perhaps too easy for a hardened sea dog. The finishing blows were a joy and nothing beats a clean double assassination pulled off at full sprint. Naval combat is where Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag truly earns its legend. Battles at sea felt glorious and I can see why fellow captains and sailors swear by it. Smashing enemy hulls with rams, mortars, and heavy shot was grand but the real thrill came after: swinging aboard on a rope and performing an air assassination and battling it out on the enemy deck…or taking a whole ship with nothing but a swivel gun! A shame Skull n’ Bones didn’t follow this charted course. The story is where this tale truly claimed my loyalty. Watching Edward Kenway begin as a selfish rogue, chasing only gold and glory, then slowly grow into a captain of principle after joining the Brotherhood and the proper course from Adewale and Kidd...'twas a fine character arc. Speaking of the side characters, they were absolute treasures. Adewale (more on him later), Kidd, Blackbeard, Vane; all bursting with personality. The story hits hard with betrayal, loss, and death (filthy pirates, the lot of ’em). I found it satisfying that Edward finally earned a measure of peace with his daughter at journey’s end. The ability to customize Edward’s attire, weapons, and ship added a fine personal touch. There’s something special about plundering the seas in a ship that truly feels like yours. Aveline DLC — I’ve yet to sail through AC III, so this was a fine introduction to her character and likely sealed my next Assassin’s Creed adventure. Short, but well worth the time. Freedom Cry — By the stars, nothing filled my heart with more joy than seeing Adewale claim his own story. Ubisoft truly went all out here, adding new weapons, animations, and mechanics instead of reusing Edward’s kit. The missions and narrative were strong, and the mechanics felt just right. I’d gladly sail a full standalone game with Adewale fighting for the revolution and others freedom. TL;DR: A legendary voyage. Hoist the sails, grab your cutlass, and play this game. Yes, I used ChatGPT to make me sound like a pirate.

I have been playing through the old titles recently and have now made my way to Black Flag. I didn’t actually like Black Flag initially, as I didn’t think boat warfare was the best fit as the primary activity in an Assassin’s Creed title. But as time went on, I found myself missing it more and more. While I do really like the newer Assassin’s Creed format, I agree with the criticism it has gotten about not feeling like the old games did, and I am also starting to miss the old titles now. This campaign is better than I remembered it. I had a lot of fun boarding enemy ships while climbing around the masts and taking out enemies one by one. The story was also better than I remembered and the pacing feels pretty good. The graphics are naturally dated now and it was probably the only issue I really had with the game, though not a big one if you are used to them. I just haven’t played since release and it surprised me a bit just how old it does look. I can definitely recommend playing this game again if it has been a while, though I probably wouldn’t recommend it to any newcomers. It feels old and I think you need to have been with the game since release to really appreciate it. _________________________________ [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45534557/]Help me out by following my Curator, I’d really appreciate it!!

Good but flawed I've only played the original Assassin's Creed upon release before this. I hoped the series had grown quite a bit since that first game. The good The world is quite expansive and mostly beautifully designed. As soon as the story gets underway and you get command of the ship the scale of possible things to do skyrockets. The base game loop on the ship is very solid, and fighting/boarding/chasing other ships can be very entertaining. Atmosphere on the ship is top notch as well. With the wind in your sails and your crew singing their shanties it just puts a smile on your face. The controls of the ship are well realized. Even in 2025 the game still looks good. In some moments it can even be gorgeous (The ship at sea and some levels). The cast of characters is quite diverse, though most are pretty foreseeable and/or rather bland. The story is serviceable, though nothing to write home about. Some enemies, especially the legendary ships you can face, offer a nice challenge. Thankfully none of the achievements force you to scour the whole world for all the collectibles, for there are many. The bad The biggest problem to enjoy the world more is the artificial intelligence. While ships behave decently and the towns are well populated and at least try to simulate a bustling city in the age of sail, the actual enemies on foot are dumb as a rock. They're mostly deaf (Only gunshots and explosions seem to pierce into their brain) and their eyesight is very selective. They can spot you pretty easily in the darkest of nights, but don't see their buddies getting murdered in front of their face, if said buddy is standing in a bush up to his knees. Missing colleagues and searching for them is out of the question. Dead bodies don't always gather the attention they deserve. So the AI isn't very challenging and very easily exploited. The variety of enemies is also very poor. Except of a late game group every faction you face has the same 3-5 boring enemy types just in different uniforms. The "irl" office story is forgettable and not worth its time, IMO. As it was in the original game. Some side activities are too repetitive and get boring fast. The open world activities have a significant "designed by Ubisoft committee" feel. Some levels aren't fully accessible in certain situations, which makes some collectibles inaccessible. Which the game annoyingly doesn't mention. The ugly The controls can be infuriating at times. The console roots are clearly visible and can be frustrating when speed is needed. Every action such as pick up/drop/loot/whistle for example is mapped to one button. Which means that actions are only available in certain situations, which limits your ability to play as you wish greatly. How I wanted to pick up a body, but only picked up his weapon. Or wanted to whistle but couldn't since I was not sitting in a bush. Another control problem is the characters almost magnetic draw to climbing and hiding. Multiple times during chases the character jumped into hiding spots instead of running past them. Said hiding spots can be very buggy as well, literally kicking you out 2 seconds after you hid in them. Some QTE sessions give a flashback to a strange time. Breaking an enemies defence is a mechanic that only works sporadically. The checkpoint system can be very punishing and unreliable. Reloads reset all enemies in a level and can forget successfully completed secondary objective, which can be tedious. The worst The multiplayer in 2025 is a shit show. Troubleshooting its connections issues took quite a while. Adding players/friends into a match failed 9 out of 10 times even after fixing it, which leaves only matchmaking. Which is horrific in its own way (Kicks players very fast, jumps into populated games of a mode you didn't choose. Disconnects are plenty as well). You'll spend hours trying to find players and matches. The base game loop in the most played mode (Wolfpack) gets very boring fast. Cool skills that you actually want to use unlock very late. Conclusion IMO this is a great addition to the series, but some parts really leave a bitter aftertaste. It still has some mechanics of the first one, which should've been improved by now. YMMV. Freedom Cry DLC The DLC has some issues as well. One mission (Gathering info) is quite bugged and can't be done with both secondaries in one go. The Blunderbuss is a cool weapon but its range leads to some issues during ship boarding (The range is too short to shoot the scout on the other mast). Plantations are interesting (The harvest songs sung feel authentic). The missions are okay, but the "mini games" of freeing slaves feel like Ubisoft is making light of the plight on the world that was the slave trade.

A Sea of Regrets: Edward Kenway's Unlikely Redemption Assassin's Creed IV: Black Flag is a masterpiece of pirate fantasy that often feels like it transcends its own franchise. It delivers an unforgettable adventure on the high seas, even if it can't fully escape the series' most tedious traditions. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3480966131 The game's greatest strength is its surprisingly heartfelt story. Following Edward Kenway, a brash privateer out for glory, you witness a raw and personal journey of greed, loss, and redemption. It's a deeply human tale set against the romanticized Golden Age of Piracy, far removed from the convoluted ancient conspiracies. This fresh perspective allows you to meet legendary figures like Blackbeard and Charles Vane not as historical caricatures, but as flawed, living men. Of course, the star of the show is the thrilling naval combat. Sailing your ship, the Jackdaw, across the vibrant Caribbean is pure joy. Chasing Spanish galleons, boarding man-o'-wars, and weathering violent storms is an endlessly rewarding gameplay loop that remains arguably the best in the entire series. https://youtu.be/fLEw9IMC2Q4 However, this paradise has its pests. To truly upgrade the Jackdaw and survive in dangerous waters, you must engage in a colossal, mind-numbing grind. Hunting whales, looting countless ships, and clearing underwater shipwrecks becomes a repetitive necessity. Furthermore, the game is plagued by the series' worst trope: an overwhelming number of tailing and eavesdropping missions. These tedious assignments brutally disrupt the pacing of an otherwise brilliant pirate epic. It's a journey worth taking, but you'll need patience to see it through. https://youtu.be/E89RYjU54mA
