This game has really great bones. There are a lot of ways to build your party and change how combat plays out. And combat is fun too. Some notes to help you decide if you might like this: Similar games: - it's sort of like battle brothers, but with 3 players and no grid. - it's sort of like xcom, but without the base building. - it has the slay the spire world map. Strengths compared to other turn based tacticals: - not grid based, neither the characters nor the environment. - uses the environment and a push mechanic that is well designed around and present in different characters' movesets. you can ram enemies into sinkholes to kill them. hilarious - there is also a "beam" mechanic where some moves "bounce" through the environment and other characters. good use of the non-grid based combat. - each character is markedly different from each other. - skills, upgrades, and stats of each character can all be upgraded roguelike-style . - upgrades are almost always punchy and impactful. the +5% bullshit is not present here. - the UI and art style is pleasing to the eye. - the story and dialogue are not too bad. - this game's animations can be sped up with cheat engine :) Some downsides: - gear is whatever, not as interesting as the gear pool is small for each character. if you're going to have gear in the game, each piece should be unique, cater to a playstyle, and have special effects. Not just be a stat stick. There also needs to be more gear in the game, as atm there are only 1 or 2 high rarity gear per character. - it's hard to hyperfocus on a single character if you want to. Every character will do their part and so repeated playthroughs with the same team comp (of which there aren't that many) will feel the same. - you must have a part of 3 at the start. no interesting comps with more or less members without finding or losing members during the game. - the game animations should generally just be faster, configurable, or skippable via click. - game is kind of short right now and doesn't have increasing difficulty levels yet. I hope the devs focus their efforts more on replay value and content: - the story can definitely go places, and the current game teases as such. - the systems are in place for more moves, more upgrade choices, and more gear. this will improve replay value a lot. - more characters! if we can't have 2 bowmen on the same team, then more classes could make up for it. - the options menu, i'm sure, will grow over time. There's only the basics there at the moment. Overall, you'll like this game if you like party turn based tacticals. It's really good, especially for a first release. The devs even released a patch on day 2 of release, which is a great sign. Keeping an eye on this one~

Fun game, beat it in 5 hours. Worth the 12 bucks for the fun in that time window. Look forward to act 2. Would ask dev to remove time sinks, like making you watch the intro movie every time (even with a skip, its annoying) and request a animation time multiplier for everything, not just combat. Some people do not want to read the story or wait for animations, and just play the core game quickly.

Supporting dev and planning to play this over the weekend. Beware that the "MIXED" review is coming mostly from Chinese players that they want a true metaprogression system. Game is a rougelite not heavy rougelike system like hades or DD/DD2.

The negative reviews are mostly about how difficult the game is. Which is true. You wont win your first run and it will take a bit of learning and a cautios approach since reinforcment and healing are rare at the start. However it isnt that bad, those initial runs dont take long and the gameplay itself is great. Could have a bit more crazy modifiers, but I havent unlocked a lot so maybe new stuff will make it a bit more varied. The game does definetely deserve more than the mixed rating it has right now.

Finally! I was really looking forward this one. I have completed the first level (took me 4-5 tries and multiple character deaths to defeat the first boss) and so far I'm loving it! Gameplay has so much tactical and strategic depth, and as well as becoming better by obtaining better skills and characters, I noticed I was becoming better by improving as a player too. Such a difference between my first playthrough and the last one! And it's still in Early Access, so I can't wait to see how the game evolves. The base couldn't be better. If you enjoy challenging strategy games with a roguelike twist and lots of interesting decisions, this might be your game!
