Mojave is so kind. He feeds us, gives us a good solid days work, helps get us out of trouble and walks us to our vehicle to make sure we get there safely after letting us stay with him for the night. I do trust him

The art style, despite its heavy use of stock assets, all blend beautifully. The game's art style is fantastic. PS1 Low Poly may be in vogue to the point of starting to be seen as kinda tacky (though I disagree), I've never seen a game combine it and postprocessing as well as this does. Every environment is a gorgeous but intimidating, heathazy, neverending desert. The world design and visuals make you feel just as trapped as the narrative does. The narrative says what it intends to say, and says it well. Throughout the game I found myself getting increasingly broken into exactly what Mojave wanted of me, every choice point until the end I've tried to betray him as safely as I could, only to have it backfire each and every time. It was to the point that by the end he allowed me to go, satisfied that he'd succeeded, proliferated his worldview through me. It was nauseating, and it worked. Problem is, I then replayed the game planning to make different choices and see how it goes. Only to discover there ARE no choices. I expected that there would be other repercussions for betraying him early, or a changed tone from him if you fell in too early. But it turns out that every moment where I saw a moment for choice, it was false. Obvious traps, points where you've been told to kill, points where sense TELLS you to kill, but I chose not to, I later went to see what happens if you shoot. And the answer is you can't. It is 100% linear, to its own detriment. The game's illusion collapses instantly the moment its being played by anyone other than crossfaded snuffbait with a belief in the good inside everyone. It also, while lacking those options that are important for its tone and main thesis, has a ton of extra fluff that actively DETRACTS from the main theme. There's shooting ranges on every map with increasing amount of score needed to pass, with passing getting you new gun skins. Gun skins that distract from the plot and setting. Theres a weird weeping angel scarecrow cornfield segment which detracts from the setting, too. Generally I think a lot of its more traditional horror inclusions detract. Its hard to think about how you're collared by a psychopath when there's unexplained meat tentacles and meat beholders flying around. Its still cool and worth experiencing, though, despite its lack of focus. Giving it a thumbs up here because, while my actual score for it is like, a 2 out of 5, I do still think its worth playing, and I don't want to hurt the chance for the devs to make more, better games like this. Also, to let my freak flag fly just a tiny bit extra: oh my god its so hot. Its so hot. Its SO hot. Oh my god its so hot. The Atticus segment not so much but the ♥♥♥♥ with the deer and rabbits drove me insane. This game is e621 bait.

*Go in blind, some reviews will have spoilers unmarked* Game was a lot of fun, if you are iffy on it, play the demo. Another thing, if you enjoy Mouthwashing, or Chilla's Art games, you'll love this. After about a 2.5 hour run time, it left me wanting to delve back into the world and the characters, something that can't be said for most AAA games these days. This will be on my 100% list (as soon as I get better at the damn shooting ranges). Props to the dev, will definitely check out more projects in the future. Good ♥♥♥♥!

"The uncomfortable truth is, evil looks a lot more boring than people like to admit." I played the entirety of this game during an in-office sleep study. The surreality of playing this game while strapped to diodes and being on camera was a perfect way to experience this game. This game is exceptionally bleak. I am genuinely impressed with the level of bleakness this game achieves in its short runtime. I know it says I played for about 10 hours, but realistically I played for maybe 4 of those hours, andthat was me trying to find everything and taking my sweet time. Just meaty enough for its price tag. I'm still a bit shaken by this. The gameplay itself is fine. Nothing offensive (ironically), but also nothing too stand out. The writing is spectacular, and I would highly recommend searching out the hidden books throughout the game to get more of this psychotic world's strong flavor. I think Mojave goes into the chaotic evil hall of fame right next to Judge Holden and Anton Chigurh. The graphics are pitch perfect for the subject matter: brutal, stark, and sickening textures stretched over a low poly nightmare. The music serves it purpose, and while I could see people thinking otherwise, I would argue that its repetitive hums and moans are bangers in their own right. The sound too is barely there, but its enough. If you are tired of the oversaturation of jump scare factories on the current indie horror market and want something fresh, play this game.
