Find more of my reviews on my curator page: [url=https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45817624-Kasurot-Recommends/]Kasurot Recommends Short Summary A massive, slow-burn biker epic that demands patience but rewards it with a surprisingly heartfelt story and the most terrifying zombie crowd technology in gaming. The Bottom Line Who Is This For? Players who want a 50-hour narrative journey mixing Sons of Anarchy brotherhood with the survival tension of The Last of Us, and who enjoy upgrading a vehicle as much as a gun. Who Is This Not For? Gamers seeking instant gratification; the first 10 hours are a desperate, underpowered struggle that will filter out impatient players. Trust the process: once you upgrade the bike and face your first Horde, this game becomes a masterpiece. The Breakdown What We Loved Minor Annoyances The Heart: Deacon and Boozer's relationship is genuinely moving. The Start: The first act is sluggish and restricts your power significantly. The Hordes: Fighting 300+ enemies simultaneously is a unique rush. Fuel Anxiety: Early game bike range is frustratingly short. Narrative (Primary Driver) How It Plays What It's About: A drifter's refusal to accept his wife's death. The Verb: Ride, maintain your bike, shoot, run away. The Hook: High-stakes melodrama in a ruined world. The Loop: Complete Storylines to upgrade camps and the bike. Context & State Details Core Tone Gritty, rainy, earnest Americana Survival. Genre Context Open World Action; Red Dead Redemption meets World War Z. Technical Snapshot Excellent PC port; runs very well on Steam Deck. Main Review The Drifter's Opera Days Gone is unapologetically story-driven. While it masquerades as a zombie shooter, it is actually a character study of Deacon St. John. The writing, often dismissed as "gruff," is actually a surprisingly earnest "Biker Soap Opera" that lands effectively because of Sam Witwer’s incredible performance. Deacon talks to himself, yells at the rain, and mourns his lost life in a way that feels manic and human. The relationship between Deacon and his "brother" Boozer provides an emotional anchor that elevates the game above standard apocalypse fare. You aren't saving the world; you are just trying to keep your family alive. The Bike and The Horde The gameplay loop stands on two pillars: your motorcycle and the Freakers. The bike is not just a fast travel tool; it is a mechanical beast you must fuel, repair, and upgrade. It handles heavily and satisfyingly, grounding you in the muddy roads of Oregon. Conversely, the "Horde" technology creates the game's standout combat moments. Stumbling upon a nest of 300 hibernation-state infected who then pour over the terrain like a fluid wave creates genuine panic. Late-game combat shifts from stealth to high-octane crowd control, forcing you to use traps, explosives, and terrain to thin the herd. The Slow Burn The critical friction point is the pacing. Days Gone demands an upfront investment of 10 to 12 hours before it truly opens up. In the beginning, your bike is slow, your gas tank is tiny, and your aim is terrible. You are vulnerable. This is a deliberate design choice to emphasize the survival aspects, but it can feel like a slog. However, this friction makes the progression incredibly rewarding. By hour 30, when you are rolling into a camp with a maxed-out chopper and a machine gun capable of mowing down hundreds, you feel like you earned that power fantasy. The Verdict If you can push past the initial friction of the opening hours, Days Gone reveals itself as one of the most cohesive and satisfying open-world games on the market. It is a massive experience offering immense value for money, combining a surprisingly tender story with terrifying technical achievements. It captures the specific, rainy melancholy of the Pacific Northwest perfectly.

Attention Sony & Players!! Days Gone surprised me. The story hit harder than expected, the bike and survival mechanics made every mile tense, and Deacon grew on me in a way few open-world protagonists do. After finishing it again in 2025, I still can’t believe there isn’t a sequel in development. The world, the Freaker hordes, and the character arcs all feel like unfinished business. Sony Bend built something unique — it deserves another chance to evolve. I’d pre-order Days Gone 2 instantly. If you want Days Gone 2, upvote reviews like this so Sony sees consistent support.

Most underrated zombie game ever Everything from the voice acting to the SFX and soundtracks is phenomenal. The landscapes and visuals are breathtaking. The story is impactful, and the combat is solid. The best part of Days Gone is cruising around on your motorcycle through the beautiful, post-apocalyptic Oregon and strategically taking down hordes. It's a tragedy that the sequel was cancelled.

A Days Gone 2 was the way to go, amazing game in every sense back in 2019 and today thanks to the Broken Road DLC. Time to hit the road again!
