"Top-Tier Animations, High-Stakes Runs." As someone who has played hundreds of roguelike deck-builders over the years, I don’t say this lightly—Deathless: The Hero Quest is the closest game to Slay the Spire that matches its quality. From its challenging encounters to its deep replayability, this is a game that knows exactly what kind of itch it’s trying to scratch, and it does so with confidence. Yes, my one minor criticism is that it isn’t wholly original. You’ll see familiar mechanics, familiar structure, and familiar pacing. But perhaps it doesn’t need to break the mold—because what it does offer is a rock-solid, finely tuned roguelike deck-building experience that delivers on all the fundamentals. Each character feels drastically different to play, with unique mechanics that force you to rethink your strategy every run. The difficulty curve keeps you on your toes, and there are moments where you’ll genuinely be sweating through the final turns, hoping your deck synergy holds together. The art direction is nothing short of outstanding—rich colors, stylish designs, and animations that are genuinely top-tier for the genre. The music is fine, if unremarkable, and mostly serves as background to the real star: the gameplay. In the end, this isn’t a game that’s trying to reinvent the genre—it’s one that celebrates it. If you’re looking for something completely new, this might not be it. But if you’re craving a polished, challenging, balanced and satisfying deck-builder that carries the spirit of the greats, Deathless: The Hero Quest is more than up to the task.

This game is super good, it reminds me of Slay the Spyre but it plays and looks much better. I hope more people will buy this game because I really want the developers to make more content for it or even a sequel.

Since I've spent more time on it than most of the reviewers, I think it's fair that I leave a review. It's a great game if you like slay the spire/choose your own adventure style games. The art/graphics is really good. Animation is also good. And it has widescreen support. Gameplay wise, all the heroes are very diverse and fun to play. It has some lore/storyline which adds some purpose to the grind. It shares a lot of similarities with Slay the spire but in a good way. It also has enough unique elements to make it worth your while. The difficulty is balanced. Not too easy but challenging enough. I think it's on par with slay the spire in that regard. If you build a good tight deck with a lucky combo of good relics, you can have a fairly easy ride until the boss battles. If your deck is bad, you will have a tougher time. Overall, it's definitely not a walk in the park. It'll punish you if you get too cocky or reckless. Paths/Battles can have modifiers which can also affect difficulty. I encountered a bug that forced me to restart a battle a few times whenever I right and left click at the same time accidentally on a card. The game will become unresponsive. Annoying but not a big deal as it's easy to avoid doing that. If you're considering this game, definitely worth getting especially on sale. A lot of love, talent and effort went into making this game. So won't be disappointed.

A decent and engaging card game that can keep you hooked for long evenings… a well-made Slay the Spire clone. The artwork is gorgeous, and the Old Rus setting is very appealing. Of course, in games like this, the setting is usually just a formality, but it’s still worth mentioning. The concept remains the same: there's a path, branching choices, and different rewards and challenges based on your decisions. I wouldn’t say I’ve fully explored all the heroes, but I liked Alyosha the most—his card combinations felt the most effective. With the other heroes, I had to think a bit more strategically. I don’t remember how this game ended up in my library, but I was pleasantly surprised by its quality, and the experience kept me engaged for several days.

Headline Already excellent potentially top-tier Slay-the-Spire like, with some very compelling and notable improvements over the classic Slay template, such as far more generous opportunities to build your deck and tableau. Visually beautiful and super slick playing deck-building turn-based card battler roguelite. Highlights? Gorgeous Visuals This is some of the most beautiful 2d art seen within a deckbuilding roguelite, and the animations are wonderfully slick and pretty BUT they do not get in the way of gameplay i.e., you are not trapped watching fancy animations or cutscenes. Your time is respected here. Compelling and rich but unobtrusive lore and narrative Unusually for the genre, your runs have a specific, defined purpose, and they take place in a *world* involving characters with a backstory, fighting against bosses with their own stories. You *can* ignore it, but you can also tap into it whenever you like. Highly rewarding run progression This is *better* than in Slay. At every choice of encounter within a regular run you are offered a choice of 3, and each alternative will offer a different set of rewards e.g., cards, relics, max HP, HP recovery. So you have a LOT of control over how you evolve your tableau and deck. Also, whenever you decline a new card you get a small gold reward instead, so you are always getting something positive from a successful battle. Highly promising escalating difficulty & build varieties There is an Ascension system in place, called “Feat of Glory”. This looks very likely to have the potential to provide, along with the 4 playable characters with highly varied powers and cards, lots and lots of enjoyable playtime. I am already at 50 hours and expecting at least double if not far more than that. Meta Progression Offers the usual – new cards – but also unlocks story elements which are quite incredibly well written and interesting to review whenever you like to. For example, each time you fight a given boss, you will get a new page of their story, up to 5 in total. These tell you what those bosses are trying to do in the wider background story, and how they ended up fighting you. Some are rather funny, but in a highbrow fantasy way, rather than slapstick. Caveats? Initial Difficulty / Balance Feels absolutely fine to me, but for less experienced players in the genre the current final boss might be a really, really tough challenge. Developers are already considering options for adjustments. Steam Deck UI / Text I have not played on Steam Deck, but others that have report that the text in particular is just too small to comfortably play with. It seems very likely – given developer engagement and responsiveness – that this will be changed
