NOTE: To prevent crashing of game, please launch the loader of the game, set FPS to 30, and set windows version to windows 7 in this loader. Also, i do not think this game supports widescreen, so be aware of that fact too. This will lower the amount of crashes you get. I only had 2 crashes in post game because i think it happened when a party member died at same time i did a coup de grace move. Hello friends, Today I will review the game Dragon Quest Heroes Slime Edition. This is side game of the Dragon Quest series on steam. If players think this is a rpg, it is not. It is more a likened to a mix of Musou and Tower Defense. Many of the maps require to guard XXX spot or object and make sure it is not damaged and destroyed. So if players think this is a rpg, yes, it does have some rpg elements in it, but i would call it more a mixed Musou and tower defense than a rpg. The game features characters from many of the dragon quest games, including ones I personally did not recognize. There are story missions players must complete to move to the next story mission. Sometimes there are quests to kill a certain amount of monsters, or find a certain items to finish them. The rewards tend to be alchemy supplies. Pretty soon in the story, you get a base that has a store, a mini medal store, a alchemy combining lab, and a bar to change characters. This is basically the players home base to do missions and story missions on the world map. More locations can be opened if players can find the maps to the specific locations. Anyways, here is my pros and cons list: PROS: - A Musou and tower defense mix game in the world of Dragon Quest games. - Many characters from different games in the series will join as playable characters. - Side quests to finish and mini medals to collect. - A base location to shop, trade, and change characters. - Post game quests and missions. - Secret locations unlocked by finding maps. CONS: - The game acts like a RPG, but in fact, it fooled me even. It is not a rpg. It is a mix of Musou and tower defense game. - Some players have reported issues loading the game. If you follow my instructions, it will almost eliminate all crashes in the game. I only experienced 2 myself, and they were in the post game. Do I recommend this game? Honestly, it is not a bad game, but it is not what i expected. I thought it was a action rpg, but it is more a mix of Musou and tower defense oriented. Although it does have some rpg elements, such as levels, quests, and skills, it is not a rpg. It wants to be a rpg, but it is more of a mixed game. It can be challenging as i personally ran into a roadblock in the post missions on certain ones and tried beating them for several days without no result. Just follow my above instructions in the loader to make it work, even on windows 11.

Score: 8/10 It took me several attempts to get into Dragon Quest Heroes. At first glance, it feels like a straightforward Musou-style spin-off, and I initially assumed it was more of a surface-level crossover built on familiar faces rather than a true Dragon Quest experience. That assumption turned out to be completely wrong. Once the game opens up, it reveals a surprising amount of heart. The tone, humor, and warmth that define the Dragon Quest series are all here. The returning characters don’t feel like simplified cameos or one-note versions of themselves; they’re fully realized, with their original personalities, voice acting, and charm intact. It feels less like a novelty crossover and more like a genuine Dragon Quest world where these characters naturally belong. The game also incorporates more RPG elements than you might expect. Each character has their own skills, much like traditional Dragon Quest party members, along with visually impressive Coup de Grâce attacks that serve as powerful special moves. There’s also a solid equipment system and a tactical layer through monster tokens, which allow you to summon creatures during battles. These mechanics add variety and keep combat from feeling completely mindless. Another highlight is the character interaction outside of combat. Once you establish your base and begin expanding your roster, party members will talk with you between missions, offering small conversations and personality-driven moments. There’s also lively voice dialogue during missions, with characters exchanging banter and reacting to events as you fight. This aspect isn’t fully realized early on, but it becomes one of the game’s most enjoyable features as the cast grows and the relationships between them start to shine. The story and character writing improve significantly after the first major boss. As more party members join, the narrative gains momentum and personality. Several character-focused quests provide small but meaningful insights into their pasts and relationships, which helps them shine beyond their original appearances. It becomes a much more engaging experience once the roster expands. The game is also packed with content, featuring well over a hundred quests along with special missions and trial challenges that add extra variety and replayability. There are also three standout boss encounters, two of which act as challenging cameo battles referencing prior entries in the series. These fights feel like meaningful callbacks rather than simple fan service, and they provide some of the most memorable moments in the game. Combat can be somewhat simple on a per-character basis, with limited move sets, but the large and varied cast keeps things fresh. The enemy density also changes dramatically as the game progresses. Early missions can feel sparse, with fewer enemies on the field, but later stages introduce much larger groups and a wider variety of foes. This shift makes battles more intense, more challenging, and much more in line with what players expect from a Musou-style experience. Overall, Dragon Quest Heroes is an underappreciated spin-off. It’s a slow burn that doesn’t fully come into its own until later in the game, but once it does, it delivers the charm, character, and warmth the series is known for. If you dismissed it as a generic crossover or a shallow Musou title, it’s worth giving it another chance. Score: 8/10

I had a blast with this game! the Dragon quest theme on a one vs many action game, i feel, works very well. the new characters were interesting and seeing old characters from main title DQ games was a very pleasing addition. on the road to grab all of the achievements in this game i found myself bored or annoyed very rarely. in this gamer's opinion Dragon quest heroes is a good time and i recommend this game to anyone looking for a more active combat dragon quest experience.
