Battle large enemies with a blend of magic and steel to recover your home in Eternal Strands . Settings, Features & Gameplay There are a lot of settings for this game, lots of graphic and video settings. Audio controls, subtitles and more. I only adjusted the odd setting and mainly played on what the game defaulted me too upon start up. I had no crashes or game breaking bugs. I found the game to run smoothing. In cut-scenes however it did not support ultra wide so you will get black bars on the sides. Highlights * Bosses are farm-able and will get stronger with new attacks up to the first three times you fight them. * The world is highly reactive. The elements affect each other. And every surface you can climb. Just watch your stamina. * Eventually you get an item (not sure why it is under consumables) but it does not disappear after using it. It is for fast traveling back to camp no matter where you are but it is a one way trip. The item is called Loomshard. * Press V at any time to use the Watchers Wisp (a trail to show you the direction to go). I just wish it lasted longer when activated. But do the quest for Laen called “A study in Light” to buff it’s cool down rate significantly. * The HAMMER icons on the map is a location of gear and weapon schematics. I wish we could zoom into the map to see details better. Once a schematic is found a green check-mark will appear on the map to show you that you’ve collected it. UPDATE Jan 19 2025 - Great Changes to the Game * More inventory space has been added! * You can now mitigate fall damage by rolling once jumping. Shortcomings…yes there is a few * No hud or quest markers but this is where you press V to use your Watcher’s Wisp (see highlights) * When you die you respawn at camp and can only take a handful of resources back with you. The number you can keep will increase as you level up your camp and you can choose which ones to keep. Still it is sad to lose any at all. Gear, Weapons and Leveling up Your character does not level up in this game, only the gear and weapons and those must be crafted. So here is where some grind comes in but it is made worse by such a small inventory at the start. Once back at camp all your resources are safe and automatically transferred to your stash. Also you do not find weapons or gear in the world. Only resources, schematics, and texts. Everything is brought back to camp to be crafted. You can choose what materials to use and the higher the rarity the better the gear and weapons (obviously). Your Map…useful info As you play an area information will become available about not just the areas of the map but what resources it holds. That summary (called Attunement) holds info on the current weather in a map, the current Arkon or big boss available, common enemies of the area, resources that can be found and where the weapon and gear schematics are. It also tells you how many loomgates are in the area. As you play an area you will collect pages of information. Collect x amount of them to open up knowledge of that area. The way to see all this info at base camp is by going to the loom and before you travel all these stats show about each area before fast travelling there . A Loomgate (fast travel portal). Unlock one or many in any given map. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3418480842 Look at the map's stats (weather and what big boss is in that area) before fast travelling. Don’t like the stats then go to sleep in your tent. Each in-game day changes the weather and boss in the area. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3420255727 The Visuals & Audio The cut-scenes that are animated are gorgeous. The art style is very much “Dragon Prince” style (a great show on Netflix). I adore the Dragon Prince series so the art and look of characters appealed to me right off the bat. Plus the environments are beautiful. Anyone who enjoys taking screen captures will love this game, a lot to capture! No photo-mode which is a real shame, this game needs one. The music fleshes out the world with melodies of fantasy, magic and adventure. The score was created by Austin Wintory and if you wish to preview a sample he has a video on his Youtube (Austin Wintory). https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3420257468 Overall Experience Despite the short-comings, which let’s be honest, will be a deal breaker for some, I really love this game. I see some negative reviews saying the combat feels janky but for me I played with keyboard and mouse and found it felt good. I did watch some Youtube videos on how to harvest the core magic from the main bosses ahead of time so I knew what to do and some bosses are very challenging. You will have to fight each boss multiple times to upgrade each of your magics to level 3 and bosses rotate where they can be found. I find the artwork and animations to look very much like the art style of the Dragon Prince series. And the movement in the world to feel like Immortals Fenyx Rising , the way all surfaces can be scaled and how reactive the environments are. I really enjoy the game and hope some quality of life stuff gets fixed but I’ve laid out what I deem to be the highs and lows and hopefully it helps you make a more informed decision if this game is right for you. For those of you who do decide to jump in…the Enclave awaits. ✨ This game was purchased by me for my personal library. On occasion I share my experiences with the groups I write for to help bring attention to games I’ve personally purchased and wish to give more exposure too. Every once in a while, a true gem of a game comes along that absolutely reinvigorates my love for the medium. This here is a game that, if I had discovered it around the age I played something like Legacy of Kain, this game would be my entire personality and a formative part of my being for the rest of my life. I am so excited for people to discover this and fall in love with it. The art is beauitiful. Im a games animator and concept artist and this game consistently takes my breath away on that front. Then theres the writing, which is so far ahead of other attempts to tell inclusive stories with diverse characters that it is actually baffling how they achieved such genuinely fantastic story telling and made it so easy. There are exchanges between characters in this game that have actually taught me to reflect on healthier and better ways people can communicate on complex differences. If that isnt world class writing and characterization, I don't know what is. On a gameplay front, there is a lot going on but its packaged in a very easy to digest action adventure wrapper. The team has somehow combined Shadow of Colossus, Monster Hunter, Zelda and also ?extraction looter?! and it all works! It is criminal in how few people know about this game as of my writing this. Do yourself a favor, treat yourself to this game and support game devs who have clearly worked their asses off to make something truly special. What a special, love filled creation. Bravo!

If you're an old BioWare fan, this is what you've been looking for. A charming, brightly colored RPG that combines my favorites from BioWare (storytelling, companion/NPC growth, romance) with a Shadow of Colossus style combat with some magic weaving thrown in. Add some really interesting world-dynamics (temperature, day/night, etc) and I think this is legitimately a fantastic game. I'll be recommending it to everyone I know, and really hope that this title helps solidify the studio's future.

Short answer: buy it! It's worth it. Long answer: this game takes what I see as a lot of great things from a lot of great games, and combines them into something that is both really easy to get into and really interesting. You can tailor your experience to what you want it to be, which is awesome. - The movement is free rather than restrictive (a la Breath of the Wild). - You can always gather more resources, and while that's helpful, there's never a penalty for "running out," they're only ever positive. No punishments. *You have unlimited arrows.* I love it when arrows are either free (like this) or cheap (like the Horizon games). - In almost every situation, you can wait until you're ready to fight a boss, or run away if you decide you're not ready. That progression is entirely up to you. You can even choose to not fight (most of) them if you don't feel like it (kind of like Terraria in that sense). Choosing to defeat them will likely prove helpful in your future endeavors, especially in the knowledge department, but hey. Up to you :). I appreciate difficulty options, because I stink at every game I play, so that's a great thing. It doesn't have to be a souls-like to be fun. You can mix and match armor, and there's no penalty to doing that (you're not missing out on a set bonus). There are pieces of armor that boost you in many ways that you can choose to suit your fancy. Run fast? Climb forever? Be a tank? Can do, buckaroo. The voice acting is incredible and engaging, and while the conversations are concise enough to drag on, there are also tons of extra dialogue options to go through if you want to (or, you can spam click through and skip the conversations in two seconds, but don't, because they're great :) ). And while many people are critical of storytelling and "it has to be perfect," I think this story is genuinely engaging enough to please most of those people. I'm really enjoying it. There's no rush to do anything, ever. You can talk to everyone, every day, spend hours exploring, build up tons of resources and over-prepare for everything, and you don't lose out, which I think is awesome. You could also just rush through only the main quests! One interesting thing is that there isn't a typical leveling system for improvement. But! Don't take that to mean difficulty is stagnant or you don't feel like you ever improve. As you progress, you will find both resources and ways to use those resources that will improve your abilities, as the enemies around you also tend towards being more difficult. There is a very well-balanced combination of personal progression and improvement, increasing knowledge and opportunities at your home base, enemy scaling (not really the right word, as one type of enemy doesn't get harder, I don't think, but different enemies that are harder do pop up in later stages, as expected), and story progression. In my opinion, it is one of the best systems in a game I have played in quite a while. All of this combines into a game I have wholly enjoyed. Because of the things Yellow Brick Games have chosen to do or not do, Eternal Strands is unique, but in my opinion, that is a very good thing. It has great qualities you might come to recognize and relate to other games you have played, but it's not a copy-cat. Again: buy it! It's worth it. (okay now I'm done with the review, I have to go back and play more hehe, things are getting exciting (for the fiftieth time))

This game came out of nowhere and surprised the hell out of me. I only learned about it via a Fully Ramblomatic review (Yahtzee), but the description of it being "Fisher Price Monster Hunter meets Lego Shadow of the Colossus" got me interested enough to buy it. It is an incredibly solid game. its not amazing. its not Earth shaking. However, it is enjoyable, functional, and finished. And in an industry inundated with Eternal Early Access, Live Service, and Rougelike games, having a simple, small scale game that just works and has an enjoyable gameplay loop, and fun characters.... its just... NICE. Its fun and exactly what it needs to be.
