Evil Maze, developed by ZOV Game Studio, is a pixel-art action RPG that blends dungeon crawling, resource management, and a touch of old-school charm. Originally released in 2016, it may not have made waves in the mainstream scene, but it has quietly gained a niche audience—especially among fans of classic-style indie games that don’t hold your hand. You play as a captured female soldier trapped in a sinister labyrinth full of traps, monsters, and puzzles. The objective is simple: survive, explore, and escape. But this is easier said than done. With every step forward, you’ll face new dangers—and limited resources. The real challenge lies in strategic movement and resource management. Keys are scarce, enemies hit hard, and health pickups are few and far between. One bad decision could mean starting over. Combat is real-time, and while it may seem simple at first, positioning and timing become increasingly important as difficulty ramps up. Randomly generated mazes offer decent replay value, although the enemy types and level design can start to feel repetitive after several runs. Evil Maze embraces a retro 2D pixel aesthetic. The environments are moody and claustrophobic, with dim lighting and a constant sense of unease. Characters are sprite-based and charmingly animated, though fairly basic. Sound-wise, the game features an atmospheric (though somewhat repetitive) soundtrack that fits the dungeon-crawling theme. Effects are minimal but effective—enough to enhance tension without becoming overbearing. The game includes light RPG mechanics: you can level up, improve stats, and gain access to stronger gear.
