Currently a mixed bag but still very worth playing either now or whenever it comes out. If the devs listen to the community it could be the perfect stealth action imsiv on full launch. Chapter 1 is amazing. Engaging unique story and art style. Instantly love Thane as a protagonist. Really replayable good levels with a perfect mashup of stealth, intrigue, exploration, and scrappy combat in smaller dense levels. Chapter 2 is fun but a bit more style than substance. I enjoyed the levels, but I don't know if I'd give all of them a replay when chapter 3 comes out. I loved the halloween level, but some of the others are little big and confusing with much less intuitive design and density. The bigger and more spread out the levels get, the less it feels like the fallen aces full game i have wanted for many years. Adding companions and loads of guns all the time is fun but kinda lowers the tension and changes the dynamic of stealth and quick thinking over brute force against overwhelming odds. It makes the event of getting a gun much less rewarding and now almost a pain of inventory managament when you have 4 good guns with ammo lying on the floor. There were times when I knew the game was trying to scare me, but because I had a tommy gun or a power drill, I wasn't really nervous. Car mechanics are cool, but i think it is best if it stays with just getaways or a single car mission. A few visual glitches here and there but not bad. Loading times are long compared to how they used to be. 4 things to consider/fix in future updates/chapter 3: - fewer guns, because it lowers the tension and gameplay richness (the gunplay is fun but not where this game shines) - limit car and companions (they are cool but again not where this game is strongest) - make loading screens faster (i dunno what to tell you guys it is a bit laborious) - Aim for denser richer and perhaps smaller levels that don't risk leaving players feeling directionless and bored. (the car mission in the woods is an example of what to steer clear of in the future, perhaps waltz's house or the halloween level is what to aspire to) I love this game so much! Thank you to the devs for all the hard work!
Fallen Aces is amazing. At the time of my writing this, there are only 5 levels but they are incredible. It feels like a genuine immersive sim, and it has a great story that I was thoroughly engaged with. The film noir tone is unmatched in video games, and I am genuinely sad that I have completed all the available content that can be played. The combat, the stealth, and the gameplay are phenomenal as well. This is a rare instance in which I can say that I game is damn near perfect. I cannot wait to play Episodes 2 and 3.
HOLY CRAP, The very first rooms in the first level, blew my mind and made me laugh, while I was able to do hilarious things like crouch jump into the fridge and close the door for no reason, it blew my mind that I was able to break the living room window, hear the sound of the wind blowing outside because it was now broken, but not only that, it wasnt all just a back drop out there, its a whole real world. I saw some birds and wondered if they were "real" so I took a pot off the stove and threw it at the bird, and killed it. Then noticed a cop walking below and did the same thing and when it hit him he reacted but still walked away. So now that I knew the wolrd is alive I started playing the game likeit was real. I got mad, The damn phone ringing constatly, I know its my landlord about to harass me, so I picked up the chair in the kitchen and threw it at the phone smashing it to pieces. Then I heard a bunch of goons outside my door of my apartment, OH ♥♥♥♥, he sent somone to collect, I quickly look around the room for a weapon, Nothing good enough to even the fight, it sounds like there 3 guys outside. I aproach the broken living room window, and look down, My charachter thinks OUTLOUD, somtihings going down, I'm not sticking around to find out. BUT I, want to play this game MY way, so I sneak to behind my desk and office chair, crouch and wait for them to break the door down. BOOM, they storm in, looking for me, but don't spot me, I sneak out the front door. very long story short, theres even more I could have done differently like grab a wooden board with nails out of the floor and used as a weapon, this game is peak, chad, prime. The best game I played all 2025. GOTY. skrew silk song, expodition 33, this is where its at.
What I thought I was buying, based on screenshots and a cursory glimpse at gameplay, was a brawler FPS with nice art. What I actually got was a bonafide Imsim, with open ended levels that give you multiple options and tools to complete the objective. Fists, guns, knives, harpoons, whiskey bottles or even complete stealth. Couple that with excellent presentation, great voice acting and a surprisingly compelling story. Shaping up to be an EA success and another New Blood win. You can tell the levels grow in complexity as they go which suggest big things for future updates.
