As an MMO veteran of 20+ years, I went into Farever expecting the usual early access issues, and honestly the server stability problems weren’t too surprising. Most MMOs struggle with launches, even lighter-style MMOs like this one. Despite that, the game actually left me pretty hopeful for its future. Starting with the positives, the combat feels really solid. The combination of class abilities and weapon skills allows for a lot more variety than I expected. Even though I personally enjoy MMOs packed with tons of abilities, Farever surprised me by making a smaller skill setup work well. Having only around 8 combat buttons plus an ultimate keeps things simple without making the gameplay feel boring. The dungeons were another big surprise. They’re genuinely well designed, with jumping sections, obstacles, and bosses that actually require some attention. Even normal entry-level dungeons can feel challenging at times. Players who are completely new to MMOs may struggle early on, but once you learn boss patterns and understand mechanics, it becomes very manageable and rewarding. The art style also deserves praise. It reminds me of an HD version of Fiesta Online, which hit me with a lot of nostalgia from when I played it years ago. The world feels colorful and inviting, and exploration is enjoyable. Gathering is simple in a good way, and crafting doesn’t feel like a chore or a headache. One thing I especially appreciate is not having to worry about people stealing your mobs while questing. For the negatives, the party system definitely needs work as soon as possible. More importantly, the game really needs a proper guild system. One of the best parts of MMOs is building communities, playing with old friends, meeting new people, and helping other players along the way. Right now that social aspect feels limited. I also think an Auction House would eventually be a good addition, but if the player population is still small, it can probably wait for now. A trade chat system would help in the meantime, even if trade chats in most MMOs usually end up full of trolls anyway. Overall, for an early access MMO, Farever has a lot of potential. The combat is fun, the dungeon design is surprisingly strong, and the game already captures that classic MMO feeling while still being approachable. If the developers focus on improving social systems and making sure there’s meaningful endgame content in the future, I think the game could have a really bright future.

Beware that, true to it's word, this game is excruciatingly Early Access. Despite it's little bit of clunk and definitely unfinished state, there's a lot to chew on in Farever, I really appreciate the ambition on display, though of course the risk with any Early Access game, is whether we will get to see it manifest fully or not. Farever's focus is mainly on exploration and a slow completion grind, people will be quick to compare it to Breath of the Wild but it's much closer to a blueprint of Genshin Impact's open world gameplay, without any of the psychological warfare that makes that specific game a nightmare. The game doesn't hold your hand, you get a map with some icons on it and are free to go check them out, it encourages you to hunt as many different types of monsters to get an XP bonus and fill your log, along the way you will find bosses in the open and instanced dungeons, both of which you can do solo or together with others, it really is up to you, and a good time either way. There's 4 classes, and they're the expected ones, Warrior, Rogue, Mage and Cleric. They kind of took notes from Guild Wars 2 where part of your hotbar is informed by your weapons, and the other is informed by your class. I really like this, however, playing as a Rogue, the rusty daggers you start with have an incredible little cooldown refresh and damage cash out loop, whereas every other weapon I've found thus far has yet to hit that level of fun. I hope this changes as I find more of them. I'm not sure how it feels for the other classes, but the other players I've seen running around seem to be having a similarly good time to myself from what they've told me. The combat takes a bit of getting used to, but I like the way it's balanced, dodging has a fairly high cooldown which makes blocking/perfect parrying attacks actually necessary against harder enemies, it's fun to figure out, not too complicated, but still has a little bit of nuance. It's not gonna blow your mind, but it's great for a game like this, it reminds me of all those free MMORPGs from the 2000s, it's not as responsive as a From Soft game, but it's good enough. It's fine! We've got a crafting system that's pretty robust and simple, nothing you won't be ready for, it's impactful and grindy, I think it strikes a good balance thus far. All in all, Farever is really interesting thus far and scratches a hyper specific itch for me, one that I've been looking for for a while. It is however, clunky in places and has what feels like unreasonable performance issues that people are rightfully criticizing. Do not buy into any hype or feel like you're missing out, I think this game will be a better buy a year or more from now than it is currently, but if you want to play a game about running around every corner of the map, beating things up, jumping puzzles, passable combat encounters and a bit of socializing, Farever is a pretty good €20 to spend.

Game good, it’s fun. Honestly I am really enjoying this a lot as it has a lot of what I want which is fun action combat, character progression and builds, solo and co-op style play, exploration, dungeons, etc. I am recommending this game purely due to what the game offers, but ultimately the elephant in the room is optimization. This needs to be cleaned up as it should run well and I think once that is resolved this will be a hidden gem especially with the road map. Recommendations for the dev team. Make optimization number 1 priority for the necessary teams. This should run on low end computers without any issues.

MMO/MMO-lite, not hundreds of players per channel I don't think but it's definitely an MMO. - Super fun action combat with exploration, played several dozen hours of the beta. - Think a simpler action combat version of BDO, with a Guild Wars 2 style gearing system (overlapping gear amongst classes & that changes half of your skills). Transmog like GW2 as well. - Big open world with dungeons & bossing, overworld bosses as well. - Crafting & gathering is in, but you can boss to get gear which is what I like to do. - No MSQ, there are some basic quests, but you can play the whole thing with friends. Played all phases of the playtest and i am very pleased to say that i can recommend Farever. Performance was somewhat of an issue that seems to be mostly fixed now and was the only real thing holding the game back imo. As long as you keep the settings on high or lower it seems to run very good. ultra for whatever reason really tanks the performance whilst not adding that much visual fidelity.
