This is an incredibly beautiful game that suffers from being a bit ahead of its time. It borrows mechanics from survival and action games (crafting, building, combat, etc.) but its honestly neither. The player is tasked with exploring a relatively barren world and restoring its environment through hunting, fishing, gathering, forestry, farming, questing and so on. Towers' is ahead of its time in that we don't have a firm (or even loose) genre identifier with these type of ecological facing games despite myriad titles existing in this space. Slapping an "ecology" tag on games like this doesn't quite fit since the ecosystems present are based on high-level concepts vs grounded science. Further, different titles that feature ecological concepts may have wildly different mechanics. Rejuvenating a landscape in games is colloquially referred to as "greening" but this concept covers titles ranging from turn based board games like Terraforming Mars to Pikman styled romps like the forthcoming BloomKeeper. At present there isn't a really clear way to steer people towards this type of meta concept, but I expect that to change sooner than later, and its what drove me to this title. So if you're looking for a beautiful world to explore and rejuvenate, I highly recommend Towers. The tertiary mechanics mentioned up front (combat, crafting, etc.) are all just that - tertiary. The meat of the game is exploring and learning the land, and the developers have made something beautifully sincere and earnest - which is the highest compliment I can give to a creative project.

This game is... Interesting to say the least. There are a lot of different mechanics within this game that shouldn't really work together but they actually do! Kind of. First of all, this is by no means a bad game. I don't agree with a lot of the bad reviews this one has gotten. Is it a perfect game? Absolutely not, it is still in early access after all. However, it is a good time, even though it is very grindy throughout the entire game. If you do not like going around collecting resources and then traveling across the map to get another kind of resource or constantly picking up rocks and sticks.... this is not for you. But if you don't mind doing that, the pay off is extremely satisfying. You are tasked with restoring a desolate landscape stripped of life back to its flourishing ecosystems with all kinds of crazy plant life and animals (the design of both are some I've never seen before and they are beautiful). Along with restoring the land, you are also rebuilding human settlements and the building and decorating is rather clunky, it does make the world feel more lived in the more you build. I only really founds myself building the main production buildings and any of the "free" reward decorations i got from quests and hidden chests throughout the world. By the end of my time, each of my 3 settlements actually felt very cozy. Especially accompanied with this game's music... absolutely beautiful and peaceful. Music is a 10/10 on its own. The combat system in the game does feel like an afterthought but it also felt like it wasn't really necessary to engage in combat at all outside a couple small quests. Which is unfortunate because a lot of the world (especially at the start) is engulfed in "withered" zones and the monsters within these are crazy strong. Especially these GIANTS that i only saw once before i ended up cleansing the area... i felt like there needed more once the area was cleansed. but again, early access. And I didn't even do all there is to do in the game, Still a lot of grinding to upgrade certain biomes to their fullest potential but honestly, I don't feel the need to do that fully until the game is 100% finished. Overall, i really liked this game and it think it is totally worth checking out. Maybe wait for a sale though, the regular price is fine and all, but a personal rule of mine is to only purchase early access games on sale. I give this game a solid 6/10 in its current state. It is slightly above average with a Sh*t ton of potential and i hope it gets there someday! Give this a try! P.S. COLLECT AS MUCH DUNG AS HUMANLY POSSIBLE!!!!!!! You will thank me later lol

I am giving this a positive recommendation just because I don't want to give a false impression to other gamers or the devs, but this game really wasn't for me. TL;DR: Game tags don't correctly represent the goal of the game, and the interactions are janky and awkward. Pretty, but too slow and grindy for me. I picked it up because of the "creature collector" tag, but I played for just under 10 hours, and didn't "collect" one creature. They do have a system that draws new creatures in, that you can study and add to a textbook of creatures, but you don't actually collect the creature. Just study it. I was hoping for some Palworld/Pokemon type where every creature is catchable/tameable, interact-with-able, but these creatures just eat your treats and poop, then run away from you. I love the type of "Catch em all" feeling games, but this one missed that mark in my opinion. The world is very beautiful and incredibly unique, right down to the creature design and music, and I enjoyed being able to climb almost every surface. However, it was a lot more grindy than I bargained for, with making it a decent way through the story and still being in starter gear and stone weapons. I have iron, but no recipes to improve my gear and increase my stamina and armour. I have received 2 new pieces since the start: a mask, and a tunic, neither of which truly improved my stats, especially for how much grinding and resource gathering I have accomplished already. The world is beautiful, but only after a ton of work. It features an ecosystem-restoring gamestyle, which is satisfying to some, but not my cup of tea. I like varying biomes that I don't have to work so hard just to see what they look like. I was very excited to explore and find new creatures to learn about and bring home with me, but the landscape is bland until you fix it, and theres no animals until the ecosystem has been restored. Again, that is the point of the game. Some people really like that, but I am not one of them. It wasn't in the tags, so I tried it out, but I probably wouldn't have if the tags reflected the game style more closely. With it being an early access game, there are going to be some bugs and problems. I had many creatures trapped and rubber-banding endlessly at the Colossal Tree sprite, climbing is super janky, and trying to stop climbing by getting over the edge or jumping to a new spot results in super glitchy interactions that make me fall back and lose a ton of progress, or leave me stuck against an invisible ceiling. Keybinding calls you out, saying "that key is used for something else, but we won't tell you what, and you can't see it anywhere on this limited list of bindings to rebind the conflicted key." All in all, it was a beautiful world, but not for me. I appreciated the creativity that went into this game, even if it's not my style. I hope the devs can continue to garner support to perfect their dream and keep working hard at improving it, but as for me, I probably won't be around to see it.

Don't let the "mixed reviews" or negative ones sway your choice from buying this game. For something that is early access this game is magnificent, of course there are a few bugs here and there but what game doesn't these days? Everything visually in this game is stunning, you cant just breeze through but its also not a boring grind. Content is actually fantastic, I've played 25 hours so far and I'm barely past the first village on the mainland. Survivalists, it is a mild survival but i think that with more updates it could potentially be a bit grindier. Base buildings, decoration etc are all fantastic and you have alot of freedom, grid placement is fantastic. Story. I was quite suprised. I giggled and laughed quite a fair bit during some scenes. So far it has been quite engaging and captivating, i havent skipped one yet which is rare for me. Credit to the writers there. If you want a game that gives you some direction but also lets you pretty much do whatever you want with cool creatures, biomes and missions. Buy it. You wont be disappointed.

I held off buying this game for 6 months because of the "Mixed" reviews. I kept track of the game, however, watched YouTube videos and decided it look too good pass up, so I decided to give it a try and boy am I ever glad I did. This game is fantastic. Don't let the negative review dissuade you. It's just people not understanding this game is in early access and may have a few bugs to work out (even thought I haven't had any issues). This game is beautiful with a unique twist on the open-world survival crafting genre. One of my favorite parts is there is not time pressure you don't have to sleep or eat unless it's to regain health. This gives it a cozy vibe that let's you take your time to explore and learn all that it has to offer. I've played nearly 100 games on Steam and this game is becoming one of my all time favorites. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND!
