An SNK game with good visuals, netcode and matchmaking. Tears in my eyes. Best 2D fighter out currently.

Not necessarily for everyone. This is the game for you if: [*]You are a fan of Fatal Fury [*]You are tired of new fighting games throwing in hyper aggressive offensive options such as Drive Rush, Rage, Wild Assault, etc. [*] You want a 1v1 fighting game with deep system mechanics [*] Prefer the accessibility of 4 button attack systems or SF6 modern controls [*] You like being evenly rewarded for both aggression and clever defense [*] You miss having a colour editor in 2D fighting games (It even has clothing patterns!) [*] You don't want to wait 6 months for new content (devs have committed to 2 months between new characters) [*] The idea of chaining multiple EX moves in succession to create combos sounds cool This game is not for you if: [*]You need deep casual experiences like SF6 World Tour, Avatar Battles, MK Story Mode, or 5 hours of story cutscenes [*]You need the tutorial to explain every system mechanic (it doesn't) [*]Don't want to google the input technique needed to get 236 moves out of a dash as opposed to a 623. [*]You don't like solo content that feels less modern or lacks full motion videos [*]You need ranked mode to have character specific ranks [*]Want a tower experience like Guilty Gear [*]Need a very modern training mode like SF6 In short, this game is mostly a modern update to the Fatal Fury formula, but can still be unabashedly old school in some areas, such as modes, interfaces, learning information, etc.

Pros: Tight gameplay. No throw loops. Strong defensive mechanics. No Drive Rush. Feints and Breaks. Good online netcode. Sequel to a 1999 game. Cons: Bad, laggy UI. There is no good map randomizer. The fucking football player is in here. --------- Look if the biggest criticism people can give for the game is bad UI and an atrocious guest then you know the gameplay is tight. Get this.

As someone who played the original Garou, I can most certainly say that most characters feel very faithful to the original and feel very unique. I will say specifics tho--goods and bads. GOODS -Fun Gameplay -- Most matches I do, even if I'm losing, doesn't feel "unfun" due to the variety of options available to you. -DLC is FREE and INCLUDED with the game, so all you have to do is wait for the characters to release in due time (About 2 months apart per character) -Extra content such as Jukebox and Character Color edits -- Changing music to your own personal taste and making characters you want is a really nice casual experience. BADS -This game is NOT worth $60...there are a lot of bugs, infinites, and many problems that need to be addressed ASAP for the new patch. -Boring Single Player Content -- The "South Town" mode is very boring and repetitive. I had to take several breaks, even though doing every mission for each character prolly takes a total of 2 or 3 hours to do total. I didn't do the "South Town+" mode for very long because it felt like more boring NPC fights with stat buffs and such. It's a big let down. -Questionable Netcode -- In my experience, as long as I set my netcode to 4+, it's good for the most part, but because the games doesn't have a massive player base, you are prone to playing the same person 3x in a row when limiting netcode parameters. Has the SF5 Rollback problem. -Lackluster Roster -- I like all the characters, but the way the game looks and the number you can choose from (17 total) seems a bit low, given the budget feel of the game. I don't want to compare to street fighter, but Street Fighter had 18 characters at launch, a good / fun story mode, and easy to navigate menu. -Cluttered Menu Screen -- It looks cool, but it does feel a little hard to navigate things. Me and my friends were talking about it and it seems more showy than understanding. I know I said more negatives about the game, but the game was NOT ready to release just yet. I do think it's fun, but PLEASE wait for this game to go on sale. I'd pay $40 for it sure, possible $50, but I think $60 is a bit steep. The game needs some QOL changes soon but aside from that, it's a relatively fun game. I'd say the game is a solid 7 / 10! Needs a lotta adjustments, but the gameplay is genuinely carrying the game.
