Good game for FATE fans, average one for everyone else If it's not apparent, this game is not my cup of tea. I have some knowledge of FATE and have watched 1 anime series (out of the gorillion media available) but I am by no means a true fan. First I'm gonna bring out the main points you might not like this game for: 1 - The combat is ok (it really improves as the game goes on) but by the end of the story it has ground people down. It genuinely becomes repetitive and no amount of mix & matching alleviates this. 2 - Too many storylines left open on whichever route you pick. 3 - The endings are genuinely baffling given the amount of effort that went to the rest of the story (it genuinely feels like the investment into the characters is not worth it). Now, I'll bring up everything this game excels at: 1 - The soundtrack is amazing, and makes both exploration and combat so much more enjoyable. 2 - The interactions between characters and the side quests are really good. Some of them made me genuinely laugh or had me guessing where it was going, and sometimes they even took me by surprise. 3 - There is always a novelty factor with the game, as it constantly gives you new things to do (not only combat-wise). Extra - If you are a FATE fan, this is exactly your cup of tea, as not only do you get to see recurrent characters you might know from other media / the main game, but also because it deals with the story VN-like, just like traditional FATE VNs (and it even includes proper diverging routes and endings with it). Overall, if you don't like FATE but think you can get some enjoyment, get it on a sale. If you are a fan, I believe this might already be in your library.
A mostly fun game, though the gameplay is slow at start. It's sorta easy and not quite a RPG as it's being marketed and progression mechanics are somewhat limited. The combat is flashy and there's a lot of different skills you unlock and many servants to take control of, but I found myself only using a handful of them. My main gripe at first was that you rarely get the chance to use a servant during the main story but as you progess his skill tree, at some point Iori's gameplay gets more interesting. Outside of that, there's basically no side gameplay mehcanics so it feels a bit bare bones at times. I think more enemy types with different flavors could work, since most units except bosses require basically the same approach and I found it a bit dull towards the end. With all that said, I think the main focus should be on story in a review of a Type-Moon work. I enjoyed it. Kinoko Nasu being directly involved in writing, I think the game is a worthy experience for anyone who enjoyed F/SN or F/GO. In short there are seven "regular" servants and eight rogue, masterless servants. Many of them are quite interesting and even though some of the rogue servants felt like they were included mostly for fanservice purposes, they add in a lot of color. It doesn't go without its flaws though. The story suffers from some pacing issues here and there and I think other master and servant pairs except Iori and Saber were not explored sufficiently. You'd think there's enough time for the story to take care of that problem (it's around 60 hours for 100% story completion, I chased some achievements so mine is a bit longer) but there's a lot of filler type content that fills the ranks instead. It still does an alright job with representing most servants and their characters. I say "most" because as I'm coming from F/GO and mainly went into this one for Jeanne, was a bit disappointed of her role in this one. Seriously just go with the non-Alter Jeanne instead of trying to bait me with a fake Jalter. Musashi was alright. Archer was amazing, definitely my favorite of the bunch. "Make ready for a historic beating." Sounds and visuals are fine, graphichal fidelity could use some more effort. Anti-aliasing looks horrible in this one. It's day and night when you compare cutscenes with actual in-game graphics. Final verdict is go in if you're a Type-Moon fan and like some flashy action gameplay. Expect non-perfection as it's a bit rough here and there but a positive experience overall.
Its a decent JRPG if you like the Fate Franchise, but a horrible experience if you plan on 100% it like it did. No matter what, this is NOT a Musou Game in my eyes. You dont fight against thousands of enemies, more like...10 - 20 per small Area. It has very few Bossfights they like to reuse A L O T ! Get ready to fight against Berserker 50 times. No Forts to capture, nothing. The Gameplay is also very simple but its okay once you get the hang of it. Youre extremely weak at the beginning, especially if you start with harder difficulties right away. The Progression and Growth comes down to your Skilltree, which is fine, and a very poor Gearing System, which they might as well could have left out. The Story is split into multiple Endings. Unfortunately they are overall very similar and sometimes even feel a bit rushed. The Story as a whole is also just okay? It never really hooked me even tho im a die-hard Fate Fan. So for me, this Game was a 6/10. Im finally free.
initially announced without much information, i thought this would be a musou game. to my surprise, it was not, and that kind of put a damper on things for me. a price cut and a sale later, i finally picked it up and man i am sorry to have judged you too early samurai/remnant i was wrong. a lot of people will refer to this game as a "warriors" game, and while it has the dressings of one, it really isn't. this is not a game you should pick up if you either want a proper 1 vs 1000 or a fully fledged action game. but as it stands? a solid experience and a fun way to structure the game, by using the city the game is set in as both a story set piece and a place where smaller scale skirmishes are fought. feels more connected than a musou game that tends to throw you on battefields that have no real discernible connection. iori and saber is a solid duo of protagonists (featuring a fun extended cast), and while this does not really do anything new with its characters (even in the Fate universe), it is still a solid story. bit of a pacing issue here and there especially on a first playthrough as you will have tons of names and places thrown at you and it can feel disjointed, but nothing to sneer at nonetheless. i guess it can be somewhat of an issue that this game requires multiple full playthroughs to see every ending (with one exclusive to ng+), i still think the game is fun enough to pick up, play and enjoy. i could nitpick about things but as a whole this is a good package and a solid game in the Fate universe. steam deck note : the game is marked as verified, which is somewhat true, but you'll need to compromise. namely you are forced to pick quality mode for the game, otherwise it runs at half speed. on top of that, if trying to run it at higher resolutions when using an external display, the game WILL have some significant slowdown in places (as well as a general slower feel). this is remedied by picking a lower resolution, but still an issue nonetheless.
This game had a lot more staying impact in my memory than anticipated. Fate stuff usually range in quality, but all have some of the series charm for me. This one pulls out a genuinely impressive ending, that continues to pester and plague my thoughts months later. Also the gameplay itself is decent enough, nothing amazing but passably fun.
