Let's get this [part out of the way. Falcom you are complicit in the probable failure of this game by not having done the due diligence of co-developing with western localizers like you effectively directly pointed to as the success of the Sky reboot and the best player numbers and investment you've have in years. An hour in and I wont pretend that I am not enjoying the core of the game itself. It has a bit of a metroidvaina mixed in with the world blending aesthetics of Tokyo Xanadu, and the combat all in all feels snappy thus far. I've been playing with an OCR translation for these first few hours and that hasn't really been fantastic. I need an entirely other monitor if I want to get translations (sometimes) , and text truly can be anywhere on screen so there is no area to have an ocr translation where it wont start trying to translate itself. I bought this because I loved Tokyo Xanadu and want to remind Falcom that despite the Trails mania, this series is far in a way the most experimental of their games and it shows in all the right ways. Now DONT buy this game if you only speak english. I can get away with basic ocr stufff as I know some basic japanese to bridge the gap. Wait for a patch. Or better yet wait for Falcom to do what they should have done when announcing the game, disclosing who the localization company is and their expected release date 0.0 Especially for fans who've been waiting literally a decade for this game its soul crushing to know that I'm apparently not enough a fan to warrent experiencing this game fully at the same time as the East. I hope more than anything that I don't have to but this game again once its localized and it just stays in this one game feed, but I will pay for it again if I must. Whomever the localizer, do closed invite betas with stringent NDAs for fans (...especially for suckers who already bought the game once) . Im having fun , I will continue to have fun. I will just have to replay the game x months from now to get a glimpse of the story and relationships which is 80 % of a Xanadu game to me. Okay here we are another week or so into playing, admittedly interspersed with other things as there were some no interly intuitive mechanics when you are trying to parse gameplay in a language that you know truely onlly basic hira and kata for. Both thankfully and unfortulately there exist a mod already that has machine translated the entire game minus some baked in cutscene moments. Does this make playing way more engaging, yes. Is that by any means tennable solution to the mismanagement of a game that Falcom had been hyping us up for years with remake after remakes of TX. Remakes that people were eating up , honestly more so as the rereleases went on. BY the time TX was on the switch type hit P5 fatigue was strong. and instead of capitalizing on this desire of players to play these dual life social games with fun writing and relationships, interspersed with action rpg dungeons ( which a lot of people find more rewarding and skill based that turn based rpgs) you squander it all by breaking up the release into your "real" player base, and who cares about making the global market wait. So many people will start playing this game with the ML translation mod, find the writing not as compelling as on the social side, and never touch the game again. Which is a damn shame because this game is beautiful and really holds a lot of the charm of TX just with a different MC disposition and different friend group dynamics (existing ones in TX vs building a network somewhere unknown and a little off kilter , yknow ..... like Kyoto) Whomever is translating and dubbing this game, I know this isnt your fault, but genuinely you have maybe a month to announce a release date with a stacked cast or this game is going to be cooked in tyhe west. And frankly due to falcoms poor management I dont think it will see a second life like TX did , where people just genuinely missed the game because it released og on Vita

I want to play this game so bad im just holding google lens up to it with my phone like a utter dork. its ok to laugh at me. this is my most weeb moment. Edit, for those who want to play but do not speak the lingo, try software called Windowtranslator. its translating everything in real time as i play and been a godsend, frankly its such a shame that falcom have left this untranslated for who knowns how long, id guess at least 8 mounths at best. because this is by far one of the best games they have made in a while and leaving the whole western Audence laungue cucked will really hurt this games sucess, what makes me sad as i want it to suceed so bad. i LOVE it. every system and gameplay, the story and charachters are all so fantastic. i will happily buy this again when the english version comes out to replay it.

Nice callback to the older YS games with 2D exploration and 3D bosses. Somewhat similar problems as with all Falcom games of recency - too much Singa, too low quality of the writing, reused assets. But 2D segments were fun, characters are cool, Dogi smashed the wall. While being a side dish this is a Falcom game I enjoyed the most probably since Ys 8.

Really cool blend of 2d platforming exploration and 3d arena fights. The combat is the usual falcom stuff. Basic and strong attacks, dodging, and parrying. I love the mordern japanese setting and aesthetics. The soundtrack is also good. Definitely recommend it if you know japanese.
