Fears to Fathom: Woodbury Getaway is a compelling continuation of the Fears to Fathom anthology, and it’s one of the more ambitious entries in the series so far. You step into the shoes of Sydney Harper, a 23-year-old looking forward to a laid-back weekend getaway with friends in a rental cabin in Woodbury, Vermont. What begins with chatter, fishing, and scenic drives quickly shifts into something darker and more unsettling as the tone changes and eerie mysteries begin to unfold. From the moment you arrive in Woodbury, the game excels at building atmosphere. The environments are beautifully rendered and immersive — the forest feels dense and unpredictable, the lake lonely in its stillness, and the rental home both familiar and unnerving. This aesthetic balance between normalcy and tension is one of the game’s strongest assets. It taps into that unsettling vibe where something is just a little off, long before anything truly frightening happens. One thing Woodbury Getaway does right is variety. While rooted in first-person exploration and psychological storytelling, the game periodically shifts the pace with different mechanics — driving across the countryside, fishing by the lakeshore, interacting with friends, reading text messages, or investigating clues. These shifts help keep the experience from feeling monotonous and reinforce that this isn’t just another “dark hallway” walking simulator. Each activity reinforces the sense that life is supposed to feel normal — until it absolutely doesn’t. Narrative delivery is mostly minimalist, with much of the story told through dialogue, NPC interactions, and environmental cues rather than exposition dumps. This style allows curiosity to build organically as you piece together fragments of what’s wrong in Woodbury. There are moments of genuine dread and disorientation, particularly once the tone shifts and your decisions begin to matter more. The game does a nice job using silence, ambient audio, and environmental design to instill unease rather than relying solely on jump scares. That said, the experience isn’t without its rough spots. Pacing can feel uneven at times — long segments of normal activity occasionally stretch the suspense without adding much narrative weight. Some players might find the fishing and driving segments slower or just “in the way” of the horror you’re anticipating. Additionally, a few minor bugs and clipping issues can break immersion briefly, but nothing that stopped progression or significantly detracted from the story. Voice acting and dialogue are authentic and grounded, giving the characters real personality without feeling overproduced. Sydney’s reactions, her friends’ banter, and the shift from carefree conversation to tense silence all contribute to the emotional undertow of the story. Overall, Fears to Fathom: Woodbury Getaway is a strong entry in the series — one that expands on the anthology’s signature blend of atmosphere, mystery, and psychological tension. It doesn’t rely on cheap scares as much as it does slow, creeping dread that keeps you engaged even in quieter moments. Fans of narrative horror, atmospheric walks through unsettling landscapes, and episodic storytelling should find a lot to enjoy here. I’m already looking forward to future chapters. —The Ember Archives https://store.steampowered.com/curator/45601239/

I enjoyed this game very much even a little glitchy but I got thru it, and one part I didn't realize I should throw my pizza box away lol. I love cheezy jump scares and fun spooky games. Oh and I really liked the typing alien game at work :)

VHS-styled horror game. Author has found a perfect source for horror games. Each one can be beaten in an 1-1,5 hours usually. There are lots of popular creepypasta youtube channels, reddit threads and so on, most of them can be easily transformed into such a game. In Woodbury Getaway we get more mini-games, dialogue options and things to do. I guess it can be beaten in first playthrough in around 2 hours. I can highly recommend the whole bundle on sale, can't wait when new season will be released.

This game is actually amazing it's the best horror game I have ever played and the fact it's based of a real story makes it a lot more scarier

This was pretty good. The twist got me and i started noticing the subtle clues only after beating the game. However, I can't help but feel like the game's length is padded by the fishing and tower minigames. If they we're to be cut out, or made optional, they would not be missed.
