I would recommend this game, but I didn't personally like it enough to finish. What I look for in a clicker/incremental is continuous progression. But this game functions similar to games like gnorp where each prestige layer is like a number puzzle you have to solve. To unlock upgrades you need to reach a certain food per second limit and if you messed up your prestige points or your purchase order you need to restart without any progress whatsoever. I didn't personally vibe with this as it felt more stressful and annoying than anything. What I like about the game: the theme is great, the art is good, the upgrades feel meaningful, theres actually quite a bit of ever changing strategy on how to hit the next level of progression, and theres lots of upgrades. one thing I will complain about mechanically though is since you do have to prestige often I wish the game saved your previous prestige's dna distribution. Having to put every single point in every prestige got old really fast. And similarly as you go through the process of unlocking the starting buildings every run the animations and clicking becomes clunky and annoying to do. If you liked gnorp or enjoy the puzzle solving aspect of this game I think it's a good game for what it offers, just not for me.

I liked it, but it's a little rough around the edges. The progression is heavily based on finding one of a few "correct" builds to progress to the next DNA, rinse and repeat. If you like quick prestiges with experimentation then you might like this game. If you prefer something more idle and laid back with no thinking, this is not for you.

Fun game, Dino Ants go STOMP! EDIT: Ok now that I have almost finished the game, I wanted to update this and share my thoughts. I think this game is about experimenting with builds, making decisions, and figuring out what worksk it makes for a really cozy “second monitor” game. This game isn't really one with explosive numbers and constant glittery dopamine effects. It's also not entirely an idle nor a crazy active game either. I think it sits somewhere between the two. I’d often leave it running while doing other things, and then check back in every so often to think about how to improve my food/min, make a few decisions, test a build idea, and then leave it running again. I actually really liked playing it this way. Coming back after breaks often gave me little “oh wait, I could try this” moments that were fun to explore. So while the game didn’t give me huge explosive dopamine hits, it kept me in a consistently cozy and good mood instead. Just this cozy headspace where I enjoyed the music and looked at my small guys do their thing. Actually, the graphics are adorable, I love the animations, and watching my little guys bounce around and do their thing made me really happy. There were a couple of things I wasn’t crazy about: - If I get the urge to play very actively, some sections can feel a bit slow. Especially when restarting the colony. - I definitely had favorite buildings/builds that I wished I could force into being optimal every run. - The game makes my computer sound like a vacuum cleaner. That said, I still absolutely got my money’s worth

A cozy little strategy game that works surprisingly well on Steam Deck. FEED THE QUEEN is one of those games I did not expect to enjoy this much. On paper, it is a strategy incremental game about growing a colony, producing food, upgrading workers and feeding an ever hungrier Queen. In practice, it is a cozy, charming and surprisingly relaxing experience with a very distinct visual style, a lovely soundtrack and that dangerous little feeling of "just one more upgrade". The loop simply works. You start with a simple task and suddenly catch yourself optimizing food production, workers and upgrades longer than planned. What I like [*]Unique and charming art style [*]Very cozy atmosphere [*]Beautiful soundtrack [*]The gameplay loop works really well [*]Relaxing, but still strategic enough to stay engaging [*]Worker upgrades and food synergies feel satisfying [*]Easy to understand, but still fun to optimize [*]80 achievements, which honestly surprised me in the best way Steam Deck thoughts This was honestly the biggest surprise for me. FEED THE QUEEN feels really good on Steam Deck. I got a little over 4 hours of battery life, the text is readable, and both controller input and the Steam Deck touchscreen work well. That readability part surprised me the most. I usually increase UI or text size to 1.1x or 1.2x in other games, but here everything was readable for me without feeling uncomfortable. Final thoughts FEED THE QUEEN is charming, cozy and smarter than it first looks. If you enjoy incremental games, colony management, synergies, achievements and relaxed optimization, this is absolutely worth a look. In short: Feed the Queen, grow the colony, enjoy the cozy chaos.

Very fun game. Took me just under 5 hours to get all achievements, and admittedly had one crash near the end but I didn't lose any progress at all from it so it was just a mild inconvenience. The dev is quite responsive so I'm hopeful that a few QoL additions will come soon, but the game's nice as is. The most tedious part is just after a reset later on in the game since re-purchasing everything is annoying due to not having settings currently to disable some things.
