I've never, ever said this before, but this game would benefit from getting stretched out a few more hours. Not extra content, just longer periods between unlocks and downtuning the exponents. Things are unlocking so fast it's easy to skip chunks of content. I didn't even play the whole flappy bird mini game mechanic, because the game ended before I even thought of wanting extra income. Otherwise, it's a fun problem solver and I enjoyed it's 2 hour run time - it was worth the $4 I spent on it.

I am hesitant to recommend this game, and I advise seriously considering your purchase before buying, but I will endorse it anyway for its strengths despite its flaws. From my perspective I will list them in brief. THE BAD [*] Extremely short, can be beaten in under three hours. [*] Optimization issues, runs extremely poorly in late game. [*] (edited) Cryo-Dream difficult to complete, extreme lag. [*] Annoying SFX, I honestly can't imagine a fuel injection sound that wouldn't get on my nerves at 100/s THE GOOD [*] Great design, from gameplay to UI [*] Great art, I enjoyed the music, art, and animations. [*] Reasonably good story. To conclude; I have a soft spot not just for indie devs, but also B games. Art that was made with conviction in spite of its shortcomings. If, like my, you enjoy novel experiences as much as polished ones you should give this game some of your time.

First off, RE: the tags, this is not an idler game, it's an incremental game. And using the terms interchangeably causes heartburn in reviews because it sets up different people to expect different things from the same game. Feed the Reactor is an incremental resource management game. It reminds me of games like Gnorp Apologue, Tower Wizard, and a bit of Revolution Idle. In these games, progress does occur "automatically" in the sense that numbers will increase while the player is idle. However, the layers of prestige between the thresholds of progress are close enough that the player is best rewarded for actively playing and frequently optimizing & min-maxing their loadouts / resource assignment (to keep incrementing to higher and higher levels of output). This is not a game where you can depart for long period of times (even 10 minutes) and come back to meaningful progress, because the progress that did accumulate will be dwarfed in a matter of a couple of upgrades / prestiges. In the 4ish hours it took me to 100% the game, I was active the entire time. Personally, I prefer this type of gameplay because it disguises the grind with moderately engaging mechanics. The enjoyment is in evaluating how all the different systems synergize (or don't) and tweaking the settings back and forth to squeeze out more and more optimization. If it's really fun, you'll restart over and over to see just how much further beyond 100% you can push that topmost prestige layer (Feed the Reactor struggles with this cuz the performance started tanking at Reactor Level 50 / Dream Level 10, which is the target end state. Not sure if this would be different off Deck, but I had fun regardless). I also really enjoyed the light narrative that was introduced to give flavor to all the mechanics - it was a nice touch. Comfy and low-stakes, perfect for vegging out on a Friday night.

I finished the game in about two hours, which is fine for this kind of game. However, it is extremely linear, just like many of the incremental games released here in the last year or so. At least it’s not AI slop and the dev really seems to have put a lot of thought into the mini-games, but it still needs some work and balance. The music is great, but please, for the love of God, let us turn off the sounds when the game is minimized. Otherwise, 7.5/10

I thought the game was amazing! Felt shorter than I anticipated though. I kept expecting some secondary prestige system though because how some upgrades said "permanent". So when I got to the blackhole I anticipated going into it and some sort of prestige or NG+ happening.
