Having completed the story missions with all side objectives done + a little bit of the challenge modes + side quests done, I can comfortably say that its a very solid game. Not knock your socks off amazing but pretty good. Just don't expect a gripping deep story or anything. I'm not usually the biggest fan of deckbuilders but FK did enough to keep me invested. You start with one deck, Plants but gradually unlock more over time. Each deck has 2 commanders (1 of which you have to unlock down the line) that you can pick from each with their own playstyle, Plants being based around Growth/Healing, Monsters around Self Damage + Buffing/Armor, and Hooligans around high mobility/trickiness idk lol You have to keep your commander alive because you automatically lose if they die. You unlock cards and earn money by completing levels/side objectives and can make certain cards with said money. You can have up to 30 cards in a deck and a minimum of 12. Other than that, the sky's the limit. You can freely mix and match cards from any other deck to create the build of your dreams but typically the best synergies will come from matching cards from the same deck. I mostly rocked plants until I got hooligans who I stuck with till the endgame. biggest criticism I have that especially applies to the last two areas is that it felt like if you don't get a good starting hand/a few cards you need in particular you're just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ and need to reset which doesn't feel great. The game plays like Fire Emblem but every action is dictated by the deckbuilding. You draw 5 cards a turn, each having their own resource cost from 0-3 and a small resource pool to take from. Biggest thing that threw me off is that you don't get any free movement, you need to play movement cards to actually move your characters. Your commander will always give you at least one movement card and it does add a little bit of decision making but if you don't have enough movement cards or don't draw any more, you're just ♥♥♥♥♥♥ or have to sit around and wait for next turn and hope you get more. Same logic applies to attack cards, however every character you control does get one free attack per turn. But again, if you don't draw enough attack cards or don't have enough resources and you're in a sticky situation, good luck. Maybe that's a failing on my part and I'm just not good at deckbuilders but more likely it's 50/50 I think. It's typically fine and you can just kinda wait around for a couple turns to make some progress but on levels with a time crunch, it's stressful and might have to reset a couple times to finally beat it. The story is nothing to write home about. It's cute, it's cozy, it gets you from Point A to Point B, the characters are all simple and their motivations are pretty clear. It's funny at times and charming but obviously it's nothing rich or complex, it's no Disco Elysium or something lol If you can look past that, I think you'll have a good time but if not you can always just skip it and cut straight to the gameplay. The visuals are probably the best part of it. Marlowe Dobbe who worked on Dicey Dungeons also provides the art for FK and it's just as standout as before if not even better. The charm just exudes in every environment, cutscene, card, you name it. The music and SFX are pretty good as well, Grahm Nesbitt who did the OST for Garden Story returns for FK and yeah, it's good, not much else to say about it tbh. Overall, it's a pretty good little tactics cardbuilder that you can sink quite a bit of time into if you're willing to put in the work. The story might take you 10-15 hours and then there's additional side quests and an even harder challenge mode of the main story levels. It's not perfect, I did run into some bugs here and there and you could argue there's issues with balance and things like that, but at the end of the day, it's not perfect, no game is but it's only $8 USD so the worst you can do is pick it up, not like it and refund it. But I say give it a shot, see if it's for you. Recommended

It's one of the few games I actually played pass 10 hours (besides Bloons TD 6 and stuff) so my opinion on the game shouldn't be too terrible and overlooked some details. I feel like I need to drop a review for this game, because, well, it deserves more attention! The reason why this game doesn't get the attention it deserves is because 1. there wasn't anything too special, like Balatro who opened up a whole new world about gambling rougelike (rouge-lite? I'm not too familiar with the words) and 2. It looks like a freaking children's game! I'm not gonna ask you or recommend you to play this game, because if you can't accept this kind of art style, no matter how fun the gameplay is, you can't tolerate it. However if you enjoy this type of 2D cartoony style kind of game, then maybe you can hear me out in this review. Now, the story? It feels like you are watching a 15 y/o girl's drama unfold (sometimes), which is kinda fun, kinda silly, well how about the gameplay? Maybe I don't play a lot of games, so my standard isn't very high, but it is very fun for a childish-looking game. The card design is surprisingly deep and every card has its own usage in battles, they may not all be powerful and game-changing but you can always trust it to do its job when the time comes (except for maybe suspicious tea/drink, but you get it fairly late anyways), and the best part? even if your deck is complete garbage you can still out-maneuver your opponents because the gameplay isn't just based on your cards! You have to move your units around and finish the enemies, in levels that aren't time-based (e.g. requires you to finish levels under 10 turns, usually side missions that gives you extra coins), having a terrible deck isn't a problem at all, which brings to the question, is the game too easy? for the most part, yes! If you are looking for a challenging deck-builder, this is certainly kindergarten's level, but if you are a casual gamer like me who wants to get immersive with the story and the game, being easy doesn't mean this game is complete meaningless to play, you still have to work for your finishes, if you go in blindly heroes will die, your units will get injured (returned to your deck with an extra waste), it is less punishing than wildfrost when you make mistakes (I love that game though), which is why I'm able to basically freak around and try out different decks with different combinations. The difficulty curve is pretty smooth, each world presents a new challenge you have to solve with your deck-building and the new cards you get by completing different levels or visiting the shop, without getting too hardcore or sudden with it, there are like 3 levels that are really tough and drives me crazy (one of them is even a side mission so you can basically ignore it; fyi it is the second level in the Shimmering Cave, one in Steelshore Coast and the final level in the graveyard in the side mission). Well, how about the bad parts? Enemy behaviors, you can't be 100% sure where enemies are gonna go, do they choose to attack (mostly they will if they could), do they chose to go the other way around and ignore you instead? If there are two units present, which one do they attack? Do they target randomly or do they try to hunt for finishes (they usually will, if they could kill they would), whether it's a bad part or not depends on you, but I got extremely salty in a few instances because of it. Attack zone not showing potential threats areas when you move around. Attack zone can point out enemies' effective range but guess what? In this game, you and the enemy can block each other's way with their cutesy cartoony body, if you block their roads then move out of the way then they may still be able to attack you, this isn't really a game problem since there's no way to fix that (if you play the game you know), but it just sucks that it happens man! This has screwed my runs a few times and made me really upset. So, TLDR, if you accept the artstyle, the gameplay is surprisingly deep, but the difficulty may be deemed too easy to people looking for a challenge, the plot is charming (although a bit childish) and the difficulty curve is rather smooth except for a few levels, the cards are balanced well (not in a every card is strong way but a every card has its own usage way) and you have rooms for mistakes, which makes you able to try different combinations and strategies in your deck. I haven't played a game that succeed in both world-building and gameplay before this one (if you accept the artstyle and the rather easy difficulty that is), and I strongly recommend everyone to try this out, this game deserves more attention.

Relatively simple but fun tactical game with an interesting artstyle and nice music. Somewhat easy for most of the levels, but the flexibility of the normal stages is very nice for varying playstyles. Admittedly, the card drawing rng can clash with the tactical gameplay (I really wish there were more cards earlier that let you thin your deck) and that can be more problematic in some of the harder optional levels that give you a predetermined deck. While it has a few potentially frustrating challenge levels and flaws, I'd say I enjoyed this game a lot.
