I just finished playing the 'Banamas' map recently and I've been enjoying this game a lot than I initially expected. Bought this game because of the art direction, thinking it would just be something cute and fun! Quite surprised to unpack and got a narrative-driven game to sit with the themes of loss. I love how the story addresses the loss of a loved one openly, and how it does not romanticize the deceased. The metaphorical symbolism and significance of the old Fruit truck being an active process that mirrors Pumpkin's healing and navigating their grief as you travel across island to island, getting to know your beloved Grandma throughout the townsfolk dialogue and memories of her. Exploring the vast island, discovering new fruits and getting to know the characters in the game has been such a treat! The game mechanics isn't perfect and feels a bit clunky with bugs here and there, but it never really gotten to the point of it being frustrating to me. I also found it interesting that the game is designed to be played at your own pace, which also adds another layer to the games narrative. That the process of grief cannot be rushed (but, maybe I'm thinking deeply about this haha) I haven't finished the game yet, but I feel like I'll probably cry at the end. If you're looking into slowing down your day into a cozy game, I would highly recommend playing this game ʕ˶´• ᴥ •`˶ʔ ♡
Just 100% this game the other day and personally thought this was such a pleasant game to experience. My philosophy when it comes to games and their prices is that it really doesn't matter how much the game cost in relation to playtime, so long as you enjoyed it, and Fruitbus I did once I completed it. Admittedly, I do feel like there are other indie games where $25 would get you more gameplay for your buck, but I like Fruitbus so much I'm content with what I paid. If the price tag is a little too high, defintely get it in a bundle or some sort of sale. PROS - Storyline Almost made me tear up at the end lol. There's a sort of dry humor the characters attach to the genuine sense of melancholy I felt playing this game (Given the theme but you should play the game to learn more). This game does an great job at what it intends to do, never feels like it's overstepping its welcome or being too hard-hitting. It's a short and sweet story imo, but still stayed with me after I finished the game. - Gameplay Throughly enjoyed the gameplay, especially how simply it was. Felt like a little dopamine rush every time I cut up fruit, made it into little dishes. Driving around in the fruitbus and exploring the world ended up being a part of the game I was shocked to enjoy as well. It's fairly easy to control and just fun to be out on the open road. This game has gotten me REALLY interested in these "drive around and sell" type games, so we'll see how it holds up. - Vibes This was the type of game you boot up after a long day, still going after an objective but never feeling like you HAD TO immediately. The game never felt like a grind nor rushed me. There is a day and night cycle that tracks the number of days (I finished at day 74), but there is no set time you need to complete anything. It makes playing honestly feel pretty chill and relaxing at times. Gathering certain ingredients can be tedious at times and is the most difficult part of the game, but money wise I was never hurting for coin. CONS - Glitches Putting this first since this seems to be a big problem with most players. In all honesty, I did not encounter the same types of bugs other people did. Which is odd, considering my PC was considered like Mid specs like 6 years ago. There were no frame issues or stuttering that consistently disrupted my gameplay, usually only occurred when I entered areas for the first time, then stopped thereafter. Sometimes the physics of items would mess up and a couple veggies would clip through tables and baskets, but nothing game breaking. - QOL Fixes You can feel the parts of the game that aren't as tidy. I found most issues I had could be navigated so again it did not disrupt my gameplay, but still worth it to note. For instance, you can't throw away dishes when you've messed up, HOWEVER you could just sell the dish in the "custom dish slot" and rid of it that way. It smaller things like that. Since the community for this game is fairly small, you won't be able to find any clear guides or work arounds on the internet, but I often found I could figure out a solution myself.
When the game works its very fun, but there are so many bugs that i encountered it made the experience annoying a lot of the time. For some of the bugs, i just had to deal with them for the entire game. Plus there's some quality of life stuff (like not being able to refund furniture or throw out dishes) that adds frustration to what's supposed to be cozy. I still enjoyed it overall, but just a tiny bit more polish would make it so much better.
Literally one of my favourite games ever. a few bugs here and there but the story, the gameplay, the atmosphere, everything is perfect. i remember when the demo came out i played for like 8 hours and couldnt stop. even now i dont wanna finish the game and will definitely replay. GO PLAY IT ITS SO FUN
I loved this game! It's a peaceful gameplay loop of driving your little mobile kitchen into town, going for an island jog (or climb) to gather up fruit, ringing the "ice cream truck" bell, and watching the cute animals come running to order their smoothies. The islanders ask you to help with their often food-related problems of course, but none of the quests dragged, and they were all charming little characters. 10/10
