Not as good as the first one due to its many plot holes but its added feature (able to see characters' favorability score) is a plus, so I'm still gonna recommend this sequel to players who've played the prequel. I particularly liked Fang 方小姐 (forgot her full name in the game), she previously played as 郑梓妍 in LiAA, her real name is 钟晨瑶 (ZCY). I also liked 小葵 (the girl who sold flowers) and 程老板 (forgot her full name in the game), she previously played as 欧阳韵 (the teacher) in KoKL, her real name is 陈漫. The pace of the game is a bit slow and lengthy but overall, it's a good experience. Get it during sales and only get it if you're a collector of FMVs. Otherwise, it still doesn't reach the level of S-Tiered FMVS such as LiAA, KoKL, VF:TP & Director Simulator. I'd give it an A at most. Nominated this for Steam Awards 2025 Outstanding Visual Style Award (update to complete task)

Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise caught my attention right away with its ambitious setting and cinematic scope. You are sent back a hundred years into a turbulent era, navigating vengeance, loyalty, and fate through a story that feels both grand and personal. What stands out most is the way it continues from the first game. For players who have experienced Game of Fate 1, the connection between the two stories feels clever and rewarding, as certain plotlines and character arcs carry over and add real emotional weight. For newcomers, the built-in recap makes it easy enough to follow along, but you will definitely appreciate the nuances more if you have played the original. The production quality is excellent, with striking visuals, detailed sets, and strong performances that bring the historical backdrop to life. Choices feel meaningful, and the pacing keeps tension high without overwhelming the viewer. In short, Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise delivers a cinematic and emotionally rich FMV experience. It expands the scope of the first game while remaining accessible to new players, a well-crafted sequel that shows how far interactive storytelling has come.

Absolute masterpiece, this historical drama has some of the greatest production values in this genre. And unlike most FMV games, story isn't driven by romance here, leaving much room for genuinely great storytelling. The game highly relies on knowledge of Chinese history, which may be natural for it's native audience, but Western players could easily miss lots of important references that are key to fully appreciating the story. At minimum, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST be familiar with Shi Jianqiao's story and how its consequences shaped Chinese society. Preferably, also learn about the Warlord Era, May Fourth and New Culture movements, Chinese-Japanese relationships at different layers of that era's society, Sun Chuanfang, Lu Xun. Even if you know just the basics, it will really help understand a lot of nuance that really makes the story whole, as it was clearly written with Chinese audiences in mind. Acting is also vastly above average compared to other FMVs. This game often features VERY long cuts, great historical scenography & costumes, plentiful supporting actors, and cinematography that heavily relies on acting for storytelling purposes, my overall impression was more that of watching a stage play than a movie. The game features 10-15 hours of video content across all of its densely branching flowchart. Sold at not much more than a price of a cinema ticket, I say it's very much worth it. English translation is rough. It's passable, with a bit of patience you can understand everything, but it's nothing impressive. There are a few scenes where subtitles are missing or way off, and on rare occasions some written text isn't translated at all - but a camera translation app helped me through these just fine. Works well on Linux with GE-Proton10-9, no issues to report, although I experienced 1-second pauses on each scene change.

This is a great game. The story was very good, the acting was great, and there is no bugs so it made for a smooth gaming experience. This game was even better than the first Game of Fate. There's many different paths you can take, and those decisions will impact the outcome of future events. Also, If you have played Love Is All Around, you'll see the familiar face of Zheng Ziyan. She plays the role of Fang Zillian in this game, so that was pretty cool. I highly recommend this game and I really hope there will be a 3rd Game of Fate. Really love this series.

After unlocking 100% of the achievements and 100% of the endings, I must say that they have made part 2 very worth playing. The efforts of the actors are absolutely wonderful. Everything is interconnected, and right from the start of the game, they reveal the true ending of part 1 (I'm very happy because all the girls from part 1 are saved). The ending of this part is also an open ending, and perhaps we will have to wait for part 3 to find out the truth.
