I was surprised to see a second release of this FMV, but it turned out to be a trilogy. Game of Fate: A Century Promise is a story about the same protagonists. The story begins 5 years after the first game, when our protagonist, the scientist, receives a mysterious red bag containing an old photo of an old house and a map. The moment he touched it, he saw an unfamiliar machine, and suddenly he was transported back to the 1920s. The funny part was that he thought he was walking on a film set, everyone was acting, until he witnessed the first death. Unfortunately, your choices are linear in the main story, but you can choose the character you trust most to share a special ending with. The rest of the story and its main idea are about revenge. You'll help one of the characters take revenge and deal with the consequences by teleporting back and forth between 1925 and 1935 to fulfil the promise you've given her. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3661808821 The game's core is going back in time and taking a small action to change the future. I found this really good, and the game gave me a couple of gasps at how things changed in the future. I enjoyed it a lot. The video quality and the areas are capturing the right atmosphere of the timeline. And the soundtracks are beautiful and well-fitted, I wish they had an option to download them. Since this was set during the Republic of China era, there will be a lot of political discussion about how people were suffering at the time, and you can either help combat corruption or join it. The subtitles are not bad, but some scenes and puzzles were not fully translated, nothing major though, as you have a huge scene map where you can replay any chapter and any specific scene anytime. There is also a counter of how many affinities you've gained from each character. There is a cap for each chapter, and the highest character you'll get will be by your side whenever you need them. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3661805997 Each character has a side story you could dive into if you converse with them the right way. The game has over 50 endings, most of which are bad, and the rest are good. The replay value is pretty high, and it is fun to see the scene from every angle. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3661807097 Pros: +Interesting story with eight chapters. +Choices and consequences. (Linear storyline) +Beautiful soundtracks. +Good character personality development. +Good game length. +Multiple endings and routes. (You can go back to any choice to change it) +Interactive chart map of all the scenes. +Characters profiles. +Collectables (Tarot cards) +You can skip previously seen scenes. +Steam achievements. Cons: - Some of the character voices seem to be voiced-over Personally, I disliked the main female character and found her voice annoying, but that didn't stop me from enjoying the game and its mechanics. There were some amazing moments, the whole game is quite emotional, I liked a couple of the characters' paths, and I highly recommend giving the game a go, even if you haven't played the first one. I'm looking forward to playing the third and last of the series. Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise — Masterpiece FMV This didn’t feel like “just an FMV game.” The story is beautifully crafted. The acting and writing made it feel real—like I belonged there, not just watching from the outside. I didn’t only care about the characters; I genuinely fell for the atmosphere and the journey. Everyone involved is really talented—the writers, developers, editors, and especially the cast. Special thanks to the cast for bringing the love story to life. Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise has a special place in my heart. P.S. Game of Fate 2 is beautiful. I don't want it to end :(

Songlan is Waifu An improvement upon Game of Fate 1, it has a super unique setting and very high production quality. I think the beginning is a lot stronger than the ending, although I definitely didn't go the route that the game intended as the likely true ending, I think it was still very satisfying and well done. Overall if you are interested in FMV and enjoyed Game of Fate 1, definitely give this one a try.

Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise caught my attention right away with its ambitious setting and cinematic scope. You are sent back a hundred years into a turbulent era, navigating vengeance, loyalty, and fate through a story that feels both grand and personal. What stands out most is the way it continues from the first game. For players who have experienced Game of Fate 1, the connection between the two stories feels clever and rewarding, as certain plotlines and character arcs carry over and add real emotional weight. For newcomers, the built-in recap makes it easy enough to follow along, but you will definitely appreciate the nuances more if you have played the original. The production quality is excellent, with striking visuals, detailed sets, and strong performances that bring the historical backdrop to life. Choices feel meaningful, and the pacing keeps tension high without overwhelming the viewer. In short, Game of Fate 2: A Century’s Promise delivers a cinematic and emotionally rich FMV experience. It expands the scope of the first game while remaining accessible to new players, a well-crafted sequel that shows how far interactive storytelling has come.

Absolute masterpiece, this historical drama has some of the greatest production values in this genre. And unlike most FMV games, story isn't driven by romance here, leaving much room for genuinely great storytelling. The game highly relies on knowledge of Chinese history, which may be natural for it's native audience, but Western players could easily miss lots of important references that are key to fully appreciating the story. At minimum, YOU ABSOLUTELY MUST be familiar with Shi Jianqiao's story and how its consequences shaped Chinese society. Preferably, also learn about the Warlord Era, May Fourth and New Culture movements, Chinese-Japanese relationships at different layers of that era's society, Sun Chuanfang, Lu Xun. Even if you know just the basics, it will really help understand a lot of nuance that really makes the story whole, as it was clearly written with Chinese audiences in mind. Acting is also vastly above average compared to other FMVs. This game often features VERY long cuts, great historical scenography & costumes, plentiful supporting actors, and cinematography that heavily relies on acting for storytelling purposes, my overall impression was more that of watching a stage play than a movie. The game features 10-15 hours of video content across all of its densely branching flowchart. Sold at not much more than a price of a cinema ticket, I say it's very much worth it. English translation is rough. It's passable, with a bit of patience you can understand everything, but it's nothing impressive. There are a few scenes where subtitles are missing or way off, and on rare occasions some written text isn't translated at all - but a camera translation app helped me through these just fine. Works well on Linux with GE-Proton10-9, no issues to report, although I experienced 1-second pauses on each scene change.
