I really have to say that the translation and the lip-syncing seem a bit rough around the edges, so it’s unintentionally funny at times. But I’m really enjoying the game and love playing it. I’m just wondering why it costs exactly ♥♥♥♥♥€ in Germany. Did the developers do that on purpose? lol
I heard this game was good but I wasn't prepared for how much I would enjoy it. Refate excels in storytelling and content. It successfully combines a compelling yakuza action story with a dating sim, to make a fun game to play through, and plenty of endings and additional scenes to experience that will have you coming back for more. The production and acting by the women are excellent. You can tell the developers and everyone involved in the creative process were passionate about making the best game possible. Aside from the usual gameplay associated with these FMV dating sims they added a couple of QTE systems to make the action scenes and some minigames to give the player a bit more immersion, which I greatly appreciate. Other games in the genre may use QTEs but in a more half hearted way, Refate shows how it should be done. I will say most of the cast have a decent storyline and play a role in the overall story, while others are really only there for sex appeal, which is fine in that there's something for everyone to enjoy if that's what you're looking for. I really hope this development team come back with a sequel or a new game with this level of quality. If you consider yourself a fan of the genre or just like a good story with gorgeous women and men, than this is worth trying, you won't be disappointed.
While the characters are not quite as enchanting as others I have seen in games of this genre (e.g., Five Hearts Under One Roof series), I really enjoyed the elevated stakes and sometimes darker storylines of this narrative. The deeper narrative helped to make the connections with the various characters more impactful and had some unexpected twists that hit harder than anticipated. As far as my favorite character, it has to be is Bai Meng!

Scoring Story: 8/10 Casting: 9/10 Acting: 8/10 Gameplay: 6.5/10 - points lost due to rather complex keyboard control game mechanism Accessibility: 7/10 - lack of subtitling in many parts of the game, including during evidence gathering/searching and during phone text messages (should just make all messages voice messages with supporting subtitles) Final Score: 77%
I never realised I loved FMV games until I came across this. The scenes were of high quality and I loved the cast's personalities and characters. The story was fun and interesting, yet they managed to put in many moments that made me laugh and brought me joy, along with moments of tension and action as well. Though there were cheesy moments, they didn't really detract from the fun of it. Though on a technical level, alot could be improved in the optimisation, I found myself really enjoying the experience above all else. The characters were very endearing especially in the more comedic situations, and I loved seeing the behind the scenes moments during the credits, it made me happy to see the `people` behind the `characters` as they laughed and did their best.
