Genuinely a delight to play, especially when you send a juiced up lightning bowling ball down a hallway and wipe dozens of enemies out. Each class and specialization feels fun and unique, and the meta-progression from leveling classes and donating resources makes each run feels like you are making meaningful overall progress, even when you're leveling alternate characters. I particularly enjoyed the feeling of progression as the town grew and evolved as I upgraded each building, providing buffs and allowing me to add modifiers to my future runs. The game is fun to play solo and in groups, and personally speaking, every finished match had me itching for just one more run. My only complaint with HoH2 is that while the tiles themselves are randomly generated and different from run to run, the tilesets and the order they appear in are fixed, I think that the game desperately needs some more variety on that front. Despite that small nitpick, I think that Heroes of Hammerwatch II is a very good game and easily worth the sticker price given how much enjoyment I've gotten out of it.

let me preface this with i have played all the hammerwatch games and enjoy the series. I feel this game was much like the original heroes of hammerwatch but with fun new additions like the equipment system and the fact that characters get the specialize after a certain level....that being said its hard for me to suggest this due to the fact that we beat the game with our characters under level 10 (when they specialize so we didn't even get to play with that whole character tree) it was so much fun and then...just ended. we never lost to a boss after the second boss, they were all just too easy. we didn't even get close to finishing the base (how you meta progress). we beat the game in under 20 runs and the late/post game is just...do it again but with bigger numbers which isn't very fun for me. its not like hades which gave you story incentive to keep playing. all in all i gave it a thumbs up because i really enjoyed the game play but wish there was more

*Edited! Changed from negative to positive.* I found a workaround that makes the game actually playable on Steam Deck! Turning off "Pixel Perfect" in its settings, and more importantly, launching the game through the compatibility option Proton 7.0-6 (go to the cog symbol on the top right of the game's page in your library, then settings, then compatibility), helped me a lot, and I now have gotten a consistent 45 FPS for the past 15 or so hours. More is probably possible, but 45 is sufficient for me and I don't want to push my luck. Now there isn't really anything left to complain, and the game is a lot of fun. You will probably also have to play around with the zoom and UI settings a bit to get it to look the way you want on the Deck, and you also need to set it to 1280x800 or whatever the Steam Deck's resolution is, but then it's smooth sailing.

It's good. Doesn't feel as good as the first one, but it's mostly because how good your character is is now based on luck of the draw skill upgrades instead of a skill tree. Also projectiles are a nightmare, they're fast, they track, and depending on how much stuff is on your screen they smack. Some minor bugs and gripes are annoying. Very stylish compared to the first though. Bring back the Sun/Moon Temple? Or something cool with the Pirate Cove? Idk. Also Release the Priest.

I have never played the first game, so this review does not compare it to the first game. This is one of the best rogue-like & dungeon crawler games, quite repetitive but not boring. Job, equip, and skill mechanisms can be combined and customized according to how you play. This game worth every penny!
