Oddly enough this game kind of got me through a divorce. I found it during a rough time and it just became my outlet for a several weeks. I spent too much time building up money, getting better gear and base building and should have focused on completing the story. After about 90 hours playing, my file got corrupted and I lost everything. However; this was good timing as it snapped me out of everything and got me back to living my life. Solid game.

Homeless guy RPG Sheds a lot of light on the truly shitty parts about being homeless, not a carbon copy of the experience of course But it's a good reality check depicted from a satirical point of view Disappointingly it doesn't look like it will see further development

This game hates you. When you launch it, it won't patiently explain you how to play to itself; it won't show you dull hints about important functions, about your inventory, about your character's needs and how to fulfill them. No. Oh, no. It'll look at you with a contemptuous smirk, silently asking you: “What the heck are you doing here, you little snot? I didn’t ask you to come. Get lost.” Your clothes will be constantly ripping and stinking. You'll have no money, and as soon as you get some – you'll be beaten up by thugs and a good 1/3 of your earnings will be stolen. You'll be cold, sick, hungry and nauseous because you ate some dubious scraps mixed with cigarette butts, you’ll barely scrape together enough cash to pee in a stall instead of your own pants, suffer from all the possible addictions because you’ll desperately try to keep your spirits below zero, and no one around you will ultimately give a damn about you because you smell worse than the nearest dumpster. And it's all gonna make you want to die. And you will die. Inevitably. The first day or, if you're lucky, the second. Third day at the most. And then many, many more times after that. You will feel with every fiber of your soul how the game is torturing you with true sadistic satisfaction. And it’s happening on the normal difficulty mode, when there are still hardcore and hardcore+, which terrifies you by its mere existence. And many people, as practice shows, quit the game after about 5 to 10 hours of play, being tired of fighting with the exhausting, merciless survival mode, because their nerves are frayed by the fact that all the items that were earned with blood and sweat were lost to NPCs once again after another character's death, there is no money to buy them back (and it looks like won’t ever be), and the character themself is also continuously on their last legs in constantly worsening weather conditions. The game will even grin when you decide to leave after another death and will mockingly offer you a “Rage quit” button underneath the polite “Exit to windows” button, which effectively does the same thing. But if you hit rock bottom, come to terms with the frailty of existence and learn what to do to die not every 3 in-game hours but at least every 10, the game will reveal itself to you from a completely unexpected angle. Non-ironically, I will say that it's been a long time since I've encountered such an amazing, engaging RPG. And who would have thought that such a plot jewel would be hidden underneath a completely, flat out insane survival game about hobos? The plot of this game is something else in the best way possible. Avoiding spoilers, quests there made me laugh like a seagull, and cry, and sympathize with the characters I had to deal with, sometimes even with the fiercest scumbags, because the game on your own skin shows what they experience on a daily basis. In the cruel world everyone survives however they can. In the end, the fact that you have to fight hard against the survival mode to get this treasure in the form of Hobo: Tough Life 's storyline is a price worth paying. There's a real soul to this story and these characters. I explored every corner of this game, completed seemingly every quest and, honestly, I haven't felt so sorry to part with the game world in a long time. I feel like I'm seeing Frodo off to Valinor (Furgrim would’ve appreciated the comparison). I guess my 160+ hours of playing and all the Steam achievements received would be a very eloquent declaration of love. Yes, it feels like the game is a bit unfinished. It's far from raw, it's fully playable, but it feels like the beta level, especially in terms of graphics. The music theme is gorgeous, though. The game itself does not crash, rarely – some bugs with the interface occur, but everything can be solved by pressing Alt+F4 or the button that helps you escape from textures in the menu. The game's autosave works properly and I never once lost progress when exiting on Alt+F4. The controls are nice, the crafting system is part of the “the game hates you” thesis, but once you get used to it you realize there's nothing wrong with it. For me, it was a downside that you quickly hit a glass ceiling while crafting – there are so many cool interesting items and recipes in the game, but you have no need to learn and use them. For example, in my hardcore playthrough I didn't get further than crafting and using food from the first two or three recipes, and there are eight of them, if not more. It feels like the developers planned to develop the game further so that these items would one day be needed to match the increasing difficulty level, but now it feels like there's no need for them, and that's sad. I really wish the developers had continued to polish this diamond. Because if it's shining now, what could be waiting for us if they finished their creation, showed us the Little Side and the Old Town and gave us much more space to feel authority as the newly elected Beggar King? The game has a lot of potential, it already has a lot of interesting things to offer and is definitely worthy of attention. I wish such projects didn't freeze halfway through. If any of the developers reads this one day – you guys are incredibly cool, thank you for such an awesome game. You have my heart. If Hobo: Tough Life will get an update someday, I'll be among the first people rushing to play it. 12 weaponized gnomes out of 10.

Don't listen to people claiming that game is "abandoned" or unfinished. Could this game be more and have more content? Sure, but the game most definitely isn't unfinished. Developers finished this game and went working on other project(s). There's plenty to do (for a hobo). There's mini-games, side quests, main quest/main story, even skills and perks, and it all has it's head and tail. It's a cool little janky winter-time hobo simulator with neat atmosphere. I especially recommend it on sale.

Surprised the game is this good. Expected a more goofy fun arcade approach like Bum Simulator, but this one is more in depth. The survival element is done very good in terms of the homeless world. Your first hours won't be the easiest, but once you've figured it all out, the game is an absolute blast. Highly recommend
