Sons of the Forest is a huge step up from the original game. Endnight Games really nailed the survival-horror aspect, and the AI is legitimately impressive, enemies feel smart and unpredictable . Having companions like Kelvin is a game-changer; he makes the experience much less lonely and helps out a ton. Just a pro-tip : treat him well, or you might find yourself on the receiving end of a tree to the face! I’ll try to keep my review as clear and honest as possible. Is it worth playing if you haven't played the first one? Definitely . The game is superb, and you won't have any trouble understanding it even if you missed out on the first one. However, I still recommend giving the first game a shot; even though it’s pretty old now, it hasn’t lost its charm, and I don't think it will anytime soon. It's currently on sale on Steam for €3.69 during the Summer Sale , or €16.79 at full price. ---Graphics--- 🥀 Beautiful 💀 Good 💀 Decent 💀 Bad 💀 Paint ---Gameplay--- 🥀 VERY GOOD 💀 Good 💀 It's just gameplay 💀 Mehh 💀 Watch paint dry instead ---Audience--- 💀 Kids 💀 Teens 🥀 Adult (18+) 🥀 Grandma ---Game Time--- 💀 You finish it before you start 💀 Short 💀 Average 🥀 Long ---PC Requirements--- 💀 Check If you can run paint 💀 Potato 🥀 Decent 💀 Fast 💀 Rich ---AI Mechanics--- 💀 Mehh 💀 Decent 🥀 Kelvin will ruin your base if you upset him 💀 Acts like a real player ---Difficulty-- 💀 Just press "W" 💀 Easy 🥀 Sighnificant brain usage 🥀 Dark Souls ---Horror--- 💀 It is not horror at all 💀 A little bit horror 🥀 Scary only if you’re new to horror 💀 You’ll need diapers to play ---Price--- 💀 It's free 🥀 Worth the price 💀 Wait for sale 💀 Not recommended 💀 You could also just burn your money The game is awesome when it comes to survival, though I did have slightly higher expectations for the building mechanics . I know it’s not Minecraft , but it is a survival game after all. When the trailer dropped, I was expecting a bit more freedom to build, but it feels a bit limited. That said, this doesn’t change my overall opinion it’s still a fantastic game and worth every penny. ---Rate--- 🥀 10/10

Peak survival crafting, an improvement on the first game in every way. Buggy sometimes but in 2026 what game isn't? play with some friends, have lots of fun. 10/10 would recommend. I'd like to add that the gameplay loop in this game is slightly different than the first: instead of having to move bases constantly, to explore and collect tools/story items and avoid the bigger and bigger attacks from the locals. This game rewards making a base in a central location and having kelvin build things and gather materials for you while you're away, and you will be away usually for a pretty good length of time. so set up some walls and storage and go exploring, you'll come home to it all completed for you (except if a construction requires rope or something he cant gather). You'll want to pack up, leave some stuff behind so you can fill up your inventory while you're out and explore heavily. keep your eyes peeled because you can very easily miss tools or important items. The game rewards exploring often (two pro tips: hold i to bring out your backpack, you can put stuff on it by combining it with your bag in the crafting menu. i have my axe, sword, pistol, meds, canteen, mre and grenades attached to my bag. in combat and in general its much faster to take something off your bag than to do it from the crafting menu. and if you're using a weapon with multiple ammo types, like the shotgun or bow, you can switch between ammo types by looking down at your feet with the weapon out and press R)

SOTF isn’t a survival, it’s a psychological experiment where the forest watches you AI doesn’t just react, it learns You start building to survive and end up surviving to protect what you built One day that strange creature with three legs three arms runs… the next she brings you a gift ! +50 hours later, I stopped fearing the cannibals and started fearing silence She trusts me now My base breathes when I’m not there

uilt my first base and it’s fun, but with only the book we have, there aren’t enough base items or variety. They could add more detailed crafting options and decorations to make bases more unique.
