The only reason you should buy this version of the game is for the multiplayer, which still works and is still active. Multiplayer progression is entirely loot box based where you have to unlock characters and weapons by spending in-game credits on packs in the store. Back when this game was new you could also spend real money but thankfully that feature has been disabled. It takes around 150 million credits to unlock everything, that being: all characters and their customization options, all level 10 weapons, all level 5 attachments, and all level 5 gear mods. You earn ~150k credits for a full extraction on the highest difficulty which takes ~30 minutes with an average team but can be completed much faster if you are speedrunning or specifically farming credits. That means it will take you ~500 hours to obtain everything if you only played on Platinum. Luckily, you are on PC so you don't have to do that if you don't want to. You can completely skip the grind by using the developer console or cheat engine to give yourself credits to buy everything instantly (though this still takes a few hours of opening packs). To enable the dev console, download and install ME 3 Tweaks mod manager then input the following commands: unlockallmpkits - this unlocks every character their customization options unlockallmpcards - this gives you every item at level 1, including a power reset card if you don't have one. Unfortunately you can't use this 10 times to get everything but it saves you having to get one roll of most items grantmpcredits ## - this gives you the specified amount of credits that you can then spend in store Buy recruit packs until you have all the level 10 common weapons, then veteran packs until you have all the level 10 uncommon weapons, and finally arsenal packs until you have all the level 10 ultra rare weapons. If you don't use the console to unlock the characters then you should buy reserves packs until you have all of the characters and then arsenal packs. All of the 99k packs have the same chance to give you a UR weapon but arsenal packs cannot give characters so you get more level 4 consumable items by buying them. If you still want to grind then here's the average amount of credits required to reach a certain baseline of equipment. Each tier assumes you opened packs optimally to reach that tier, so getting all level 10 rare weapons includes getting all level 10 common and uncommon weapons: [*] 1 million credits for all level 10 common weapons [*] 5 million credits for all level 10 uncommon weapons [*] 20 million credits for all level 10 rare weapons [*] 50 million credits for all level 10 rare weapons, all level 5 attachments, and all level 5 gear mods [*] 150 million credits for all level 10 ultra rare weapons

Multiplayer still alive and kicking ass, but get the game on sale.

the multiplayer/coop mode is surprisingly underrated, absolutely worth it just for that. surprisingly high skill ceiling, even aside from the jank, and a wide variety of playstyles/characters and insane levels of power fantasy. not many games where you can play as a spec ops ryu hayabusa with space magic or a huge alien frog bruiser headbutting and hammering everything in sight. really f*cking cringe that they didnt port it over for the "legendary" edition which is anything but. feels good to write a quick ode to a MP mode ive put a lot of time into (many hours on origin, not listed here) ive been a big fan of for a very long time. only issue is a lot of the progression takes place via credits purchasing lootboxes alongside character leveling... this doesn't matter anymore though as bioware barely exists anymore and you can easily cheat for whatever characters/weapons you want, and i highly recommend doing so. also consider using the very new unofficial MP patch https://www.nexusmods.com/masseffect3/mods/1040

The multiplayer still works, and still kicks ass, tested 25/06/25. Mods allow you more to do than the Legendary Edition, but it's hard work and slowly becoming harder as tech moves on. Only buy for MP, go for the Legendary Edition if that doesn't interest you

Worth it just for the multiplayer alone; Not to mention the finale to one of the best trilogies in gaming. Highly Recommend.
