Fanservice on steroids. Not a great game, unbalanced and repetitive, but I wish more gacha titles got an offline version like this. Props for that alone. Grab it on sale. Plays great on Deck.

This is like a fan-service of a few Megaman series, showing off characters in different outfits performing things with a few original characters added. - If you are expecting an experience like the actual Megaman X, it is very different. They've copied some stages and gimmicks from Megaman X series but things play out very differently. - If you are expecting achievements, this is going to be a very long and boring grind, If you think maxing out X8 is grindy enough, get ready. - If you are expecting a some nice original story, it is not even well-written. The whole plot is laid out bare since the first few chapters and the rest are either characters bantering or giving the same spoilers while assuming you don't understand anything yet. Some events don't even have a conversation or backstory given out. Despite the negativity, I have to say that I do appreciate the idea of turning a dead online game into a non-pay-to-win offline game. I think this is a win-win for both the developer and the fanbase, and other studios should do similarly. ...Now then, on to what experience to expect First, the whole game is designed as if it was to be played by middle-schoolers with some free time (I can't imagine why they think their money-making system would have worked when it was an online game, but whatever) It's 90% RPG and 10% action-platformer There is a lot of freedom of movement, easy to control, Dash and Double jumps always available, and you always auto-lock-on aiming targets in range. Spikes, pitfalls, and being squashed don't kill but only deal damage. Having leveled a bit higher than opponents makes you much harder to take damage, meaning dodging is optional until late game where some shots inflict statuses like paralysis and skill silence. Even the nightmarish stages like ones from X6 becomes much easier here. The platformer part is a little annoying too. Unlike how they hide upgrades in X series where you notice something in the way was different but have to find what gets you through, they hide some of the hidden objects, which sole purpose is for achievement (and a bunch gems, i guess), anywhere they want. You either find a guide, or go down every pits you see because you don't know if the stage extends downwards unless you fall that far, and climb any walls you find because same reasons. Some are hidden in the environment without so much as some particles to indicate them. All currencies are farmable, and you really need to farm them all to max the achievements. You'll especially repeat the money and exp stages so often it gets old fast. Characters and Weapons are easily obtainable with No Randomness, but they are locked by story progression. Which is too bad, you cannot grow along with your favorite characters unless they are early-game ones. Both characters and weapons are not very customizable, so some gets prefered over others, like Super Bass being better at speedrunning, and Roll.EXE overhealling cheesing every stages for 3 stars. And while so many weapons are available, you'll end up sticking to end-game ones with most utility anyways. Also, maxing out a character takes a lot of grinds, and there are a lot of characters available at the same time. You'll either ask a random tier list or read a hundred of character's skills and futures before choosing just a few to continue to the end of the game. There is a lot of things to upgrade as well, you'll switch back and forth between screens between progressions to upgrade for better damage and defense. It'll take a while to get used to what does what. The variability of the main stages is rather poor. Most likely you will have already seen the stages in X series but with a few changes. But even assuming that you don't, the amount of textures totals to only about 2-3 games worth of the X series. Far too few considering they are mixing even a lot of other series. They repeat bosses and enemies often, saving other bosses for events. Personally I think they chose the more iconic ones to fight in main game. This is probably because you are supposed to repeat the event stages countless times when it was an online game. Challenge and Racing modes made it seems like you can do them anytime you want, but it's actually better to do them with high-leveled characters and weapons anyways due to some damage scaling with better percentage. These modes are overall optional. Lastly is the JAKOB hellevator. In online game context, it's your DPS or Damage check. You fight enemies wave by wave under a time limit so if you're too slow you won't spawn enough enemies in time. There are 175 floors and progressions in higher difficulties don't count towards lower ones. Each floor takes 2 minutes average, and they are the most tedious and boring thing in this game. Good thing most of the floors are small enough stages where I can put a heavy object on my shooting button, let auto aim do its thing, and play with my phone. Bosses health is also deceiving. It carries over so you can simply fight them as many times as you want without worrying about the time limit or losing the fight. On that note the timer is also deceiving in every stages and every modes. It starts before the mission starts and doesn't pause or stop while you have no control of your characters, during the going through doors and boss death animations, for example. All in all, I like the idea of making an offline of a dead online game, and the idea of letting other series have a place in this game with their own iconic gimmicks. When mixing a bunch of unique characters into this RPG platformer game it feels pretty fresh to navigate around. Achievements are mostly easy to get despite the amount of time really needed, though finding the hidden object can be evil sometimes. Calling it part of the X series is a stretch, though

Regardless of its actual quality, this game is important for demonstrating that what Stop Killing Games is asking for is fundamentally reasonable. Supporting it will help the industry heal from the damage that gacha has done.

DISCLAIMER: I didn't pay full price for this game, I got it on sale for $5. This game is FANTASTIC when you just want a quick Mega Man fix! The various weapon options are nice, but the big draw is the roster of characters. X DiVE Offline is to Mega Man as Budokai Tenkaichi is to Dragon Ball; A toy box that you can dip into and play around with for hours, or even just a little bit. It's also cool that you can access the online events at your leisure through a menu, but they STILL rotate automatically as time passes! And if you're like me, and concerned about making all of your premium currency count, you'll be happy to know that the final story mode stage can actually be used to farm premium currency! It's not a ton at a time, but knowing there's an unlimited supply is still a comfort.

This game is essentially Mega Man fan fiction. The story is pretty subpar early on, but the real draw is getting to play as so many different fan favorite characters over all of the Mega Man games. The stage design gets better as you play further, and eventually the Challenge Modes wind up being the most fun since you can't just vaporize them by overleveling. Highly recommend figuring mods out, because they can speed up progression and introduce collab content that wasn't carried over by Capcom (for legitimate licensing reasons) as well as add entirely new characters, weapons, and options.
