Offline review: For middle-aged gamers like me, who grew up with MK, this collection is perfection. Not only does it have great ports of the games themselves, but the quality-of-life features are very helpful. Training modes, fixed ai difficulty, save states, on screen move lists all help with improving your skills and overall enjoyment. The towers are much more enjoyable now that fixed ai difficulty has lessened the cheating, input reading, ai (although the bosses are still cheap). The included filters are pretty much garbage, but a good CRT Royale Reshade or ShaderGlass preset solves that. I can't think of any real negatives when it comes to offline mode, except, we should have gotten MK Gold instead of the arcade version of MK 4. Online review: UPDATE - My previous comments about the online mode were negative because even after the Krossplay update I still wasn't getting any matches. It turns out that Krossplay is disabled by default and you have to go into the settings and enable it. Silly me for thinking it would be enabled by default. Anyway, I'm able to connect and play matches now. There was no perceivable input lag and the audio only glitched once briefly. It's lots of fun, even though I got my a$$ handed to me. Guess I need to practice some more! I just hope that the online community doesn't die soon due to the poor launch.

Paid full price for this. The games are quite well preserved and the lore, character bios and documentary IMO make it worth it but I don't blame anyone for waiting for it to go on sale. I will be the first to admit I don't play Mortal Kombat for the gameplay, the graphics are nice and the controls are fluid but I'm here for the story and characters, world building etc and this is a great way to experience that. As of this review online is borked, empty and laggy beyond belief. So that leaves us with single player arcade mode. This is something I think shouldve been addressed in some fashion, even on very easy or CPU level 0, the ai reads your inputs and absolutely takes you apart in true arcade fashion and even the console versions don't mitigate this. A toggle would've been nice but I can tell this game was on a crunch, Sonic Origins style. There's a lot to nitpick about this collection, I wish you could filter and screen settings universally rather than for each individual mode (not game, mode, training, fatality training, arcade mode) one by one. I feel like there are some omissions that would've been welcome. The Sega CD of MK 1, Sega Saturn versions of MK2, UMK3, and Trilogy would be nice but not strictly necessary. The biggest omission though is MK Gold, all we have is the arcade version of 4 which is 100% the worst way to play it, even 64 would've been preferable. Despite all of this I do recommend this as a way to experience the series at least up through 3, 4 is better on different platforms at time of writing but I imagine since its the current year the game will be improved bit by bit and be in a better state by the time you read this. Update: On the documentary Finally finished the very long documentary and overall I really enjoyed it. It has a lot of great interviews with the original developers providing unique insights into the production. And also some interviews with poorly lit video game journalists and influencers filming in their bedroom who didn't even shave for the camera. Some of them are pretty articulate, some of them aren't. One thing that really stuck out to me though was at the end of the documentary, after 5 hours of talking about all the wonderful things that make Mortal Kombat special to austistic nerds like me, the influencers to come on to champion how it's good that a lot of these things have been sacrificed on the alter of the modern audience and that made me a little sad. The push towards realism around the time of MKX never sat particularly well with me as a fan, as Ed Boon says in the documentary, reality is boring. But overall it was a very entertaining watch for a lifelong fan of the franchise.

This game collection will likely always be plagued by its original lackluster and problematic launch. However, the games have been fully cleaned up and the input lag issues are fully resolved. We are now left with an amazing collection of classic games from across multiple systems and decades, hours of behind the scenes content, and countless hours of re-playable, genuinely amazing games. 9/10

I guess you had to be there. The original arcade games are the games of my misspent youth (yeah i'm old) The nostalgia is still strong and this is a good collection with some excellent docu videos for any fans of the series and gaming in the 90s. The input lag, I haven't noticed anything bad on both PC and PS5 offline. Not too concerned about online but it does seem to take forever to get a match. I think people forget how some of these ports were back in the 90s, SNES version of MK in particular was always a lag fest. The Game Boy version is just so bad on so many levels, but they are all interesting pieces of gaming history. It's worth it for the games and video collections alone and especially for Sub-Zero Mythologies, a guilty pleasure which I am planning to finish one day before I leave this Earthrealm...

(Singleplayer review) Some, but not all of the games seem to have some input lag. Mortal Kombat 4 has no delay at all. MK Trilogy runs perfectly. The arcade version of MK2 feels a bit off. This is unfair to anyone who has paid the full $50 for it. I only recommend to the most nostalgic of MK fans, for now. This needs more time in he oven.
