I’ve seen every complaint under the sun about this game — “the physics are bad,” “the AI is broken,” “the sound is awful,” “too much DLC.” After a few dozen hours, I can tell you most of those reviews are nonsense written by people who either didn’t finish the tutorial or wanted a PlayStation 2 nostalgia trip instead of an actual motocross game in 2025. 1. Physics — They Don’t Suck, You Just Have to Learn Them This isn’t an arcade button-masher where you hold throttle and drift like a cartoon. The bikes have proper weight transfer, traction limits, suspension flex, and torque response. You have to feel the dirt, preload for jumps, and respect the fact that a 450cc doesn’t turn on a dime. People saying “it’s slippery” are the same ones holding full gas through a corner and wondering why they slide out. It’s not broken — it’s sim-lite realism. Once you actually learn how to counterbalance and feather throttle, it clicks hard. 2. The AI Isn’t Dumb — It’s Just Competitive Some reviews cry that the AI “only wants to kill me.” What they mean is: the AI races like real riders do. They block, cut inside, and push their line. If you take bad corners, they punish it. It’s aggressive but fair once you get consistent. Would you rather they just politely follow behind you while clapping? The AI isn’t broken — it’s alive, and it actually races. I tested the bots on Big Horn National on 450s, 15-bot race on GOAT difficulty, and it’s not a top-speed issue. The AI just refuses to switch behavior trees. The game has different logic for SX, MX, and trails, but the bots stay locked in race-mode even on massive open sections. You can recover immediately and get to the front of the pack. You can literally watch them stay in 5th and 4th gear on long flats instead of opening the bike up and sending it properly. When the track tightens again they kind of excel, but still fail miserably. It’s not that the AI isn’t competitive, it’s just that they aren’t tuned for big maps. I think it’s a side effect of lazy AI coding and a larger focus on the multiplayer department, rather than the “game-breaking problems” people claim it is. On San Diego Supercross, 15 bots, GOAT difficulty, and 450 EX bikes, it’s a completely different story when it comes to problems. I’ve noticed a clear skill divide between bots. For example, on the first turn, 5 bots literally went straight into the turn and bailed immediately before the race even started. The next 5 were mid-tier in skill: easily passable, not very dumb, not very smart. Then the top 5 bots clearly get more difficult the closer they are to first. I think the devs did this because it adds some kind of weird rivalry and unpredictability. If all the bots were the same skill level, they’d all get stuck on each other taking the same line. These AI are clearly non-generative “smart” systems and follow set rails and set lines. When an AI hits a player, it’s almost like they can’t see you at all and use the player as a berm or wall to save themselves, because they clearly cannot recognise players. That’s why there are so many broken collision and stuck issues. The solution is just to get first and get a head start in the first 30 seconds; after that, every race is an easy win. 3. The Audio — Not Hollywood, But Functional Yes, the sound design could use more bite. But it’s hardly the catastrophe Reddit makes it out to be. The two-stroke and four-stroke tones are distinct enough once you tweak the EQ. The “audio bugs” most people complain about were patched a long time ago. If you want immersion, crank the master volume, drop the music, and let the revs breathe — it feels fine. The irony? The same people calling the sound “trash” are playing through tinny TV speakers. 4. DLC — Optional, Not Required Let’s be honest: most DLC in MX vs ATV Legends is cosmetic or brand-specific (Yamaha, KTM, etc.). You’re not locked out of gameplay content unless you have a compulsion to collect every decal. The base game already includes full vehicle classes, dozens of tracks, and progression modes. If you’re angry that sponsor-themed gear costs extra, you’re not upset about the game — you’re upset about capitalism. 5. “Unfinished”? That Was 2022. The devs at Rainbow Studios have patched this thing over 30 times. The frame rate, crashes, sound issues, and track AI were all addressed. Half these negative reviews are fossils written from launch week. The devs even replied to people personally and fixed their complaints. That level of post-launch support deserves credit. 6. The Real Reason People Hate It They don’t hate Legends. They hate that it’s not MX Unleashed or Reflex. They want a 2006 physics engine on a 2025 machine. But Legends isn’t trying to be a nostalgia product; it’s trying to modernize motocross simulation for players who actually ride or understand the sport. The old games felt “fun” because you could mash X to win. Here, you earn speed through skill. 7. What You Actually Get Realistic terrain physics with proper suspension feedback. Bikes and quads that feel different across surfaces. Aggressive AI that forces you to improve instead of sleepwalk to victory. Customization that rewards actual racing, not wallet-flexing. A dev team that’s active and communicative.

This game is REALLY good. The graphics are great, the physics are good and the tracks are incredible. The only negative thing is the AI of the opposing riders. It's like they are programmed to ram into you at all times.
