I've played Medieval Dynasty, Bellwright, Farthest Frontier, Manor Lords and Saelig trying to scratch my itch for a medieval builder. This game is IT for me! The tutorial has been an absolute joy!! First I started Kingdom mode so I could get going.. figured well I enjoy a lot of building games I've got this. Went to the first ruin I saw and well.. bandits.. ran to a hill.. meanwhile I had a voice over reading off a letter to me explaining all the lands around me. This was so awesome and immersive! I made my way up a hill. (I'd love to set up a keep atop a hill, which is something I cannot do in most builders) I started my building. Made myself a home, a logging hut (prefab) and a regular house (prefab) just to explore the systems the game offers. I realized I didn't know how to recruit anyone. I saved and exited to menu. Now the tutorial. Holy hell was this the best tutorial I've experienced in a game thus far. It's fully voiced and interactive. You have an ai who comments as you do things and follows you around. The landscape is beautiful on both maps.. first thing I noticed but failed to mention before. So I start the process of learning how to do things. I've had to do things such as replace the lumber operator to chop a tree and learn how the lumberyard works. Then sent a npc to work it. Built a storage house and met the desired decoration demand. (Which is something I love!! Decorations are not locked behind grinding endlessly for money to unlock.. Medieval Dynasty I'm looking at you.....) I've had to build homes, repair a church and get it functioning. The fishing was cool to see a jetty in use! All in all I cannot believe how great this game is. I'm only 3 hours in and still in the tutorial phase but this game has exceeded my expectations due to the negative reviews. I really hope the developers realize the jewel they have created and don't lose hope. Does there need to be polish and systems added in.. yeah.. it's early access and I'm sure there's a roadmap for that. I would love to see it. However for what I want in a game, which is to build and design and chill.. this is it. I've got a pretty beast computer so I might not see the performance issues others have so I cannot really tell you if there are issues in this department. I will say I saw a review posted Jan 2nd complaining about no tutorial. That was a flat lie... I've enjoyed the tutorial very much! Idk why people are not capable of exploring a game proper before giving out false information in a review. However, yes, there is a tutorial and Kingdom mode that I've experienced so far. Later tonight I'll try out multiplayer as I'm excited to have friends join me. I'll update my experience as needed.

So far so good Like any EA the game still needs some polish, but the core systems and gameplay loop are fantastic. The Good [*] - Buildings can be prefab or completely custom. Designs can be saved and uploaded to the workshop, so not only do you not have to recreate the same house from scratch, but you can explore the creations of others. This goes for EVERY building, not just houses. Placing can either be freeform, snap to grid, or even snap to smaller grid, for more precise placement. Obstructing things like rocks simply go away instead of blocking your build. You won't get bogged down with "invalid placement" like in many similar games. You can even change the elevation of pieces with the mousewheel. Lots of creative freedom for those city builders out there. [*] - Currency can be earned passively by your citizens based on their jobs and skills. [*] - The resource collection, crafting, and logistics are exactly what you would expect from a colony sim. You assign them jobs, they collect/craft, haul goods, and sell to visitors. As skills improve, so does their efficiency. [*] - Gathering is perfect. You click on a node and you will continue to gather till either the node is empty or you move away from it. No spam clicking and no looking around on the ground to pick up what you mined. [*] - There is a morale system that is impacted by social events, quality of buildings, decorations, food/drink variety, etc. [*] - There are bandit raids. These can be mitigated via diplomacy. You can fight the bandits off yourself or you can assign citizens as guards. You can build walls, guard posts, craft equipment, etc. Later in development the bandits will be an optional toggle for those wanting a more peaceful game, but the attacks have not been difficult to deal with. [*] - Citizens have unique traits that affect how they behave and who they get along with, so there is a social element to the settlement. [*] - Resource respawn is at a very reasonable rate. [*] - There is a tactical view that is overhead where you can zoom out a lot. In this view resource icons show you where things are. The Bad [*] - There is not currently an in-game map, but one is being added. This can make the initial start a little off-putting as you don't really know where you are and it's easy to get lost. Fortunately there are roads with signs to NPC towns at crossroads. [*] - You start kind of in the middle of nowhere and have to walk about 20 min real time before you find a town. That being said, the goal is to build your own town, so you would only go to the other ones for diplomacy, trade, or conquest. [*] - Can be a rough learning curve if you don't do the tutorial scenario. I didn't, but I managed to figure things out. The community is also very helpful if you have questions. [*] - Hunting doesn't feel good at all. You aim at a moving animal and hold down the mouse button. This makes a bar move towards a "sweetspot". If you release too early or too late, the arrow barely goes any distance. I would like to see bow mechanics completely replaced from the ground up. It's horrible. I love hunting in games like this so this was a major letdown. This was changed after I spoke with a dev and made some suggestions. Hunting now functions exactly how you would expect from a survival game. [*] - Crafting is a mix of good and bad. You can build from items in storage, but you can't craft from items in storage. There is a checkbox to continuously build the selected item, so you could technically just afk craft it till you run out of resources in inventory, but you can't select a specific amount to craft. [*] - Moving items between inventory/storage is clunky. You right-click to move the stack back and forth, or middle-mouse to move half. I can't find a way to split a stack any other way. This needs a lot of QoL improvement. Give us a slider or at least list the needed hotkeys on the inventory transfer screen. Something like a shift-click to open of a stack split or something. Or maybe a CTRL-click to move just one at a time. Closing Statement The good things about this game are the core systems and gameplay loop. The bad things are mostly things that just need to be refined more/polished. The core foundation of the game is solid. The closest comparison I could make is Medieval Dynasty, except with much more building freedom and a need to defend what you build. The map is much bigger and graphical fidelity is much higher. Right now it's a diamond in the rough. I can't wait to watch it get polished. The Devs are very active, communicate openly with the players, and push updates frequently. If you don't mind playing EA games and helping shape their development with feedback, these guys deserve your time. The game may have a rough first impression, but the moment you start building your town, you start to fall in love with it.

If you liked Medieval Dynasty, you'll like this. An easy to follow and complete tutorial and a whole load of free to download prefab buildings in their Community Workshop. Altho it doesn't say it, using a controller is available, and there's even a Controller Template under Controller Layout settings in here.

Noble Legacy Early Access Review - 32 Hours In ★★★★☆ Recommended After sinking 32 hours into Noble Legacy's early access, I can confidently say this game is scratching an itch I didn't even know I had. As someone who's played countless city builders, from the classics like Caesar III to modern hits like Frostpunk, Noble Legacy feels refreshingly different. What Hooked Me The third-person perspective completely changes how you engage with your settlement. Instead of clicking from above like some distant god, I'm walking through my cobblestone streets, watching my blacksmith hammer away while smoke rises from chimneys I personally placed. There's something deeply satisfying about zooming out to plan your district layout, then walking through it at ground level to see how it actually feels. The medieval narrative framework elevates what could be mundane resource management into something that feels purposeful. Rather than just "build 50 houses because the game says so," I'm expanding my settlement to house refugees from a bandit raid, or constructing a granary because my advisor warned of a harsh winter. These story beats give weight to every construction decision. The Worker System is Brilliant The worker management UI deserves special mention. I can actually see individual workers, track their daily routines, and optimize their paths between home, work, and resources. Watching my lumber crew establish efficient routes between the forest, sawmill, and construction sites feels like solving a living puzzle. Growing Pains (But Worth It) I'll be honest - the building mechanics can feel clunky at first. Placing structures doesn't always snap where you expect, and sometimes the 3D camera makes it tricky to position things precisely. But after about 10 hours, I started to appreciate that this isn't trying to be SimCity. The slight jankiness actually makes successful city planning feel more earned, like I'm working with medieval engineering constraints rather than perfect modern blueprints. The 3D UI has a learning curve too. Managing complex settlements while navigating a fully 3D world is more challenging than traditional isometric builders, but once it clicks, it's far more immersive. The Hybrid Magic What really sets Noble Legacy apart is how it balances contemplative city-building with moments of action. One moment I'm carefully planning crop rotations and trade routes, the next I'm directing my militia to repel raiders. This rhythm keeps the gameplay fresh - I never felt like I was just waiting for resources to accumulate. Early Access Verdict At 32 hours in, I'm still discovering new mechanics and optimization strategies. The game successfully combines the methodical satisfaction of city-building with the narrative drive of an RPG and the personal connection of third-person exploration. Yes, it's rough around the edges - this is early access, after all. But the core vision is so compelling that I'm excited to see how it evolves. If you're burned out on traditional city builders and want something that makes you feel truly connected to your settlement, Noble Legacy is absolutely worth your time. The developer clearly has a unique vision here, and I'm all in for the journey.

So far... kinda good. The good outweighs the bad and in early access with updates on the horizon, I am optimistic enough to keep the thumb pointing up on this one. It's a little shallow, but the skeleton is really nice. Seeing your village grow in live time and watching everyone fill up the tavern or working their jobs is satisfying. Placing prefabs is simple. Modifying an existing prefab is also pretty easy to do. I took the storage house and expanded it into a nice tavern. Filling the buildings with your decorations is also easy to do. Assigning people to live in certain houses and work certain jobs COULD be really cool... but.... The NPCs and especially their AI is not very good at all yet. I assign them to work and most of them do absolutely nothing. I assigned someone to do research at the library and she just wandered around the outside of the building, even when she was set to be working. She would go in the building, walk back out, wander into the forest. Same problem was happening in the tavern. The two NPCs I assigned to run the joint were doing nothing, and after selecting the person I had running the bar, she kept saying "I can't get to the bar". I took the bar out from where it was and moved it into the middle of a wide open room, she still can't get to it. And as of right now, they are also incredibly boring, but I expect that to change down the road. I also hate how only certain NPCs can only work in certain buildings. I think any NPC should be able to work in any building, but there should obviously be pros and cons to working in a building where they specialize in that trait, such as Foraging or Fishing, etc. Maybe someone that isn't good specialized in research takes 50% longer or has a 50% chance to fail each level. I don't know, but people should be able to do anything to help out in the village and not just be dead weight or make me wait 7 or 8 minutes or whatever for recruits to cycle through. Combat is nothing to really talk about right now. Hope they expand on it in some way one way or another. Some immediate nice wants would be: I want the ability to pin recipes to see what materials I still need. I want to be able to lay down a building when it is showing up in Yellow still (meaning unbuildable) kind of as a blueprint and then be able to come back and finish building it with enough materials. I would also like to see this blueprint feature let us build the actual building piece by piece from the blueprint. And of course build from storage would be great, but honestly in this game, that wouldn't be the biggest dealbreaker. It'd be nice though. Looking forward to seeing what comes of this one. I am optimistic.
