This game oooohhh this game is a banger. Realistically there are only three reasons you SHOULD NOT play this game 1. You don't like old-fashioned graphics or game design 2. You don't like spiders 3. You're allergic to jank If you can clear these three hurdles I can almost gurantee you'll enjoy Northern Journey. It's a fantastic adventure filled with thrills chills and spills into suprisingly lethal 5-inch rivers
The first two thirds are an actual masterpiece, 10/10, but that last third is plain misery and it just kept ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ going. The game really lingers in its final few levels and all the little quirks start to become major annoyances as the game drags on. The whole second half in general just turns into linear gimmick levels and bad boss fights. It completely saps the game's energy. And yet it keeps ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ going. You have to fight the village idiot 4 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ times in the final two levels and its not fun even once. The final one has this awful lead in too, where you have to defend some ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ while he steals it every 5 seconds and enemies infinitely spawn. It sucks. It really ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ sucks. Highly recommend outside that though. The first two thirds alone are absolutely worth playing this game for.
A really unique game that is pretty good but could have been great with a few changes: 1) There is way too much combat, it borders on boomer shooter levels of enemies on screen, when the weapons are more slow and methodical. It would have benefitted from more adventure, and combat when it was more meaningful 2) The game REALLY drags in the last act. Too many boss fights that honestly don't feel all that great to play. 3) I would say two to three areas could have been completely cut with no consequence. Do not get me wrong, this is still a really fun game with a nice fairy tale story and a great art style and atmosphere! It just needed to trim some fat!
Best drive by purchase I have ever made. This game really got me through the toughest part of my life. Its a weird, fun, goofy, psychedelic, horror, atmospheric game and the music/landscapes in this game just takes you somewhere else. A very 420 friendly game tbh. A note to the creator: Hope your doing well. Myself and your niche community wish you the best and are looking forward to your newer game if that is the direction you go. I for one will buy that first day.
