🐑 A Dark, Unsettling Co-op Experience REANIMAL pulls you in immediately with its atmosphere. The world feels grim, and uncomfortable in a way that feels intentional, like something always feels slightly “off”. It doesn’t rely on jump scares - most of the tension comes from the environments, the sound design and the constant feeling of being unsafe. Visually, it’s a really strong game. The environments have a lot of disturbing details, and the character/creature designs are grotesque, unsettling and memorable. Every area has a well crafted feel to it, with much of the storytelling being told through it. The lighting was the biggest standout for me, helping with the constant tension and sense of unease. Gameplay is pretty simple overall. It’s mostly exploring, stealth and a few chase sequences. It’s not very mechanically challenging, but that seems to work in its favour since the main focus seems to be immersion and pacing. Co-op fits naturally into the experience, making tense moments more enjoyable when playing with someone, although solo still works. The story is quite vague and open to interpretation. Much of what happens is left unexplained, which adds to the mystery, but sometimes moments felt random or unclear. There was a small amount of voice acting, so I was expecting parts of the story to have explanation through that, but it mostly stayed ambiguous. There were a few bugs (my friend got stuck behind an invisible wall during the turret sequence), some frame drops in certain areas and I crashed a couple of times during our playthrough. It wasn’t constant, and it never put me off playing. I was slightly disappointed in the lack of ultrawide support with how visual the game is, too. For 100% completion, myself and a friend did our first run blind, exploring naturally and experiencing everything as we went. We then did a second guided run, to clean up any missed collectibles and achievements. The full length is definitely on the shorter side, making the price feel a bit high, especially with additional future paid DLC on top. That said, the experience itself still feels solid overall, tightly paced and never dragged. Overall: A memorable, atmospheric horror experience that excelled in presentation and mood. Simple, and relatively short, it delivered a strong, unsettling journey that’s enjoyable solo or in co-op. 🏆 Achievement Notes Most unlock naturally through progression, though some collectibles require careful exploration, or a second playthrough. 🥇 100% Completed Completion Difficulty: ★★☆☆☆ Time to 100%: ~6–10 hours Missables: Yes ⋆⁺₊⋆ ☽ ⋆⁺₊⋆ https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=3667867157

Monsters aren't what you should be afraid of After Tarsier and Bandai Namco went their separate ways, many were worried - completely understandably- about the IP's future. Considering how the third entry of the beloved Little Nightmares franchise couldn't live up to expectations, many fans - myself included - were hyped about the fact that the team behind the both critically acclaimed and by fans well-regarded first two entries are working on an entirely new game, something akin of a spiritual successor to Mono's and Six's adventures. And boy, they didn't disappoint. Let me start with the most controversial aspect of it: it's price. I understand that many people would expect something more than a 5-7 hour journey. I've completed the game with all achievements under 5 hours, although I did use a guide for the missable achievements. But let's be honest here: Which would you prefer? A new Assassin's Creed entry with an unnecessarily stretched main story and game map filled with question marks that feel like more of a task, an obligation to be done with ASAP, or something memorable, a straight forward, linear single player experience with no BS included? Let's start with the visuals: They're incredible. Tarsier reached their peak with REANIMAL. Little Nightmares 2 was visually stunning likewise, but the monumental, bleak and oppressive world of their new work is something they can be undoubtedly proud of. I'm not sure how to word it haha, but I think it's a feeling like the stakes are higher? You're not running away from a crazy Hunter, Teacher, or an enigmatic Thin Man. There's something WAY MORE sinister at play here, and you do constantly feel like there's no hope left in this world. It's gonna eat you alive, and spit you out. All of this is accompanied with an S-tier soundtrack and general audio design. What I love about it is that it isn't necessarily over the top dramatic, they're going for the unsettling, hopeless, "beyond saving" vibe. Fans of their previous work will notice the absence of puzzles (with the exception of 1-2). I didn't mind this, as Little Nightmares was always more about chases, sneaking, hiding and so on. They're fully embracing that here. Whether you like this change or not depends on you entirely. The story is as ambiguous as ever. Believe me, you'll barely understand anything unless you pay close attention to the events of the game. And even then, it might take multiple playthroughs to fully grasp what it's trying to say. I do have my own interpretation of the story, and in my opinion it's their best yet. I wholeheartedly recommend getting a friend for this experience. I did play solo because I couldn't do co-op with a good friend of mine due to network issues. Hope they're fixing that soon. More on the technical side. I did experience fps drops once or twice (RTX 5070 TI), dropped from 180 to like 80-90 when entering new areas. First world problems, I know, but wanted to mention as I've no idea if this is more drastic on a low-end or mid-tier PC. I've also encountered a bug where I got stuck when I was trying to go through gaps. I had to reload a checkpoint because that was the only way to "revert the damage". And lastly, I've saw weird, white and yellow particles when using the boat to travel. I do hope they fix this soon also, as I found it to be a bit immersion breaking. Despite the previously mentioned issues, I do believe Tarsier has mastered their craft. It's the first major game this year that I played, and will likely remain in my favorites of this year's selection. Final Verdict: 10/10 - Essential Experience Tarsier's magnum opus. Can't wait to see how they expand the lore in the upcoming, three major expansions.

i think the people saying that this game isn't worth the price because of how little content it gives are either really smart or my friend and i are just really dumb. we're 4hrs into our playthrough together and we're only halfway through chapter 5 of 9. we've taken time to actually explore and find secrets in the game bc we are massive fans of tarsier studios. maybe it's because of this time that we've taken so long. maybe it's because we've died more than a fair share of times figuring out boss fights or doing parkour. either way, this game offers a lot more than just 3hrs and it's most certainly not just a one and done situation. there are achievements and other secrets to find and collect in other playthroughs if you miss them. this game has replayability. the environment is what i expect from tarsier studios: perfect. environmental storytelling is on point and the creatures we find are haunting af. i liked the couple rooms in this game that reminded of little nightmares I and II. i don't know if it was intentional or not, but it was nice. but coming back to the horror, it IS genuinely terrifying in some sections. there is a water section where you're left wondering when something will surface to try to attack you, there are plenty of chase scenes and jumpscares that leave you scrambling around for an escape (more often than not, my friend and i totally died bc we were too busy trying to run away than to actually find where we're going LMAO), and i feel like a range of fears are added to this game really well. there's your fear of heights, water, BIRDS, mannequins, spiders and MORE. the characters are also adorable as always. i just wish that we could hold hands like LN2 :( anyway, please give this a try and don't try and rush through this game. appreciate it and have fun looking for the secrets! EDIT: after seeing a review commenting on the story being incomprehensible, i've come back again LMAO. tarsier studios are known for developing stories that are for YOU to interpret. they won't spell anything out and that is the same with little nightmares I and II. that's part of the fun. if you unlock secrets, you get a little hint as to what the story could be. go on reddit if you're really curious. this developer does this story even better than the little nightmares series for me. it's more fun to interpret but it's also horrifying. not because it's scary, but because it's unbelievable. how can someone do that? it's like the little nightmares II ending. that's what i love about this developer. they do stories SO WELL and this story is AMAZING. there a still holes in what i think the story is about, but i don't doubt that the DLC could help that and develop more of the story, too. this game is GREAT if you put effort into immersing yourself in it and what it's trying to say. it's average if you don't.

Really enjoyed it from start to finish. Warning: it runs hot and hits the GPU hard. Wait for a patch, otherwise undervolt your GPU (and/or cap FPS).
