Generally I'm terrible at RTS games, I have trouble managing all the units and strategic big brain gameplay.. But this is one that I'm able to sit down and enjoy, and you can play it as smartly as you want or you can literally just lean into the soviet doctrine of throwing mechanized infantry supported by artillery at an expensive NATO shaped problem until something fun happens. Game is finally in it's "finished" state and everything is pretty well balanced I think.
Regiments is a wonderful game that has a wealth of choice in how you play it from the wide roster of units and nations you can play down to the settings that define how a skirmish or campaign plays. It plays in a simillar fashion to games such as: World in conflict, Wargame, Broken arrow and WARNO. I have finished all campaigns and a bunch of skirmish in Regiments. I liked this game a lot and I enjoyed the structure of the deployments and post battle for the campaign. If you are after single player content please consider buying this over Broken arrow as Regiments is half the cost and also a well polished finished product.
This game is amazing. Coming from Armored Brigade 2 I assumed this game would be very arcadey and in a way its less of a war game, yet its very manageable once you figure the UI and flow of the game out. Its very easy to control your armies, and to order units around. You don't micro much at all, I just send my boys in, and they handle it. Ill throw smoke and arty, but my tanks engage what they can see, if they don't Ive got recon units. Its actually a very chill game, with very low clicks per second. Some people love carpal tunnel, and clicking as fast as possible, for us older folks, this game doesn't play like it looks. Its not as micro intensive as Men of War or Call to Arms. Its not as instant death as Combat Mission. Its very much its own thing. I watched a youtube lets play, and for some reason it didn't really click with me, now that I've played a skirmish and the tutorial I realize just how .. simple it plays. Using entrenchment as an example, instead of clicking my guys and then clicking again and choosing where the foxholes, if I leave my infantry still, I know that they will begin to entrench on their own. Little things like that take a huge amount of micro off of the player. ....also... this game is amazing after work when you are tired. I order some tanks, I send them in, I click retreat and they spew out smoke and run away so I can deploy something else. Its very smart in how it plays. Also it has dynamic campaigns. The Warpath mode lets you choose a regiment and do a bunch of missions and upgrade your regiment. Just a really great game. Singleplayer only as the introvert gods intended.
