Have used this game religiously since 360 days. First and foremost this is not a Rockband/Guitar Hero like game. This is an actual teaching program. It takes time, money, patience and dedication. I see the new version for 2026 has relaunched without the licensed songs. No big deal, you need to search for and join Customs Forge. Without it, this program is going to feel very underwhelming. You need a QUALITY Realtone cable and a guitar. Guitar setup is paramount here! Low tunings with a guitar not properly intonated for a low range as well as incorrect string thickness will result in missed notes. Same goes for higher tunings. I have multiple guitars just for this. Also, you NEED to get a soundbar or external sound system. Running both audio and video through HDMI will result in delay. It needs to have the audio run to an external separate speaker. At the end of the day, this is still by far the best method you can use to learn guitar provided you put the work in. If you are looking for a more laid back, cheap and easy to set up arcade type of experience get yourself Rockband or Guitar Hero.
Great game. Since I owned the original release I still have all the songs from the base game. If you're new and just now buying the game go to Customsforge and download custom charts from there for free. There are how to videos on the website that will walk you through everything you need to do to get set up. Also all the original dlc is still available to purchase (On my end at least) so there are still loads of songs that can be played.
