Note: Consider this a neutral review, but I'm not going to hurt their score by giving it a thumbs down, it's not 'thumbs down' worthy—not entirely. Man, they really do just allow the genre "Creature collector" on just about anything, huh? The game is fun, but it's not a creature collector. You unlock characters, and use them as a substitute for weapons in the Garlic-like Genre. That isn't creature collecting. By this game's logic, Vampire survivors is a creature collector. It has monsters you unlock, don't it? Still, for 7 bucks, it's worth a shot. The gameplay is fun. Simple, but fun. Though, if I'm going to be 100% honest? If you're looking at this game, and you haven't played vampire survivors I would advice buying that game instead. It's a better, more full, experience. This one is fun, but it doesn't do enough to be its own experience in my honest opinion. Maybe if the creatures you played had split evolution paths based on most amount of gems you take? Then I'd be like "Oh shit so you have evolution paths with every creature and every character actually can become one of three characters?" then I'd say this game would have enough. Still wouldn't be a creature collector, but it would be enough to justify a 'oh this has its own gimmick I like this.' Does this game have literally nothing unique to it? No, of course not, it's just not really enough to justify not just buying the superior game that does everything this one does and more. If you buy this, you buy this for the art style. The visual of a gimmick, and to support these developers. Which I, as of writing this post, respect enough to also do. A 'survivors-like' monster taming game honestly sounds really hard to do right. They tried, and they didn't fail per-se, but they certainly didn't succeed, either. All in all, it's a soft 7/10, 6.5 if I'm being more honest. The art and cute charm carry hard here.

TLDR: Great game from a small but talented and passionate Brazilian team!! 🔥 > 8.5/10 < Indepth analysis: I am a big fan of this genre of games, especially if they are focused on multiplayer. I've played Vampire Survivors, Temtem, Spell Brigade and others and this one doesn't fall behind any of them. /Good Points: ✨ fun gameplay overall, with new stuff all the time. ✨ easy coop multiplayer via remote play ✨ great (and I mean really great) pixel art and music ✨ nice design for all the characters ✨ nice introductory lore that makes you wonder ✨ a lot of nice Easter eggs for Brazilian folk /Small stuff that could be better 🔴 Not much of that. I've become a godlike`` feeling I love when a survivor game makes you have that sensation of ´´wtf I've become god somehow`` when you finish a build, and even though you get really strong on this game sometimes it's hard to feel that... power trip. I don't know if it's a visual thing or something, but a lot of times when I see the stats screen at the end of the map,I notice I've done a lot more damage than I thought. This is something important to me in a survivors game and the biggest gripe I had with my gaming experience 🔴 No evolution mechanic in a monster game It's kinda anti-intuitive. At the beginning, I just assumed my character was going to evolve at some point, so it was a little disappointing. I understand asking for this is a lot for the pixel artists, but having an evolution system would make this game reach new highs and could even resolve the previous ´´godlike`` point. Temtem is a good reference in this regard. 🔴 Small problems with the remote play and no online multiplayer I understand online multiplayer may be a hard thing to add, but it for sure keeps some players away. And that's it! Shard Squad is for SURE worth your time. I hope the devs keep working on it! We'll have more characters soon, and I hope that in the future we can get some evolution mechanics or even more content or games in this universe. Congrats to the devs and keep it up!! Brazillian p.s: digitei em inglês pra convencer quem é de fora a jogar, mas se você é BR e não jogou esse jogo: tenha vergonha na cara viu!! Apoie a cena, esse jogo vale muito a pena!

Only just started it, but can tell this is going to be a great game. A lot of love and care have gone into this. Beat the first boss on my first try, but it did get close towards the end. Difficulty felt just about right.

The pitch for this game is misleading. The devs claim it's 20 hour campaign with animated cutscenes and voice acting. It's a 6 hour campaign with exactly 2 scenes and really, really awful (English) voice acting. I can't stress how bad the the voice acting is. The game would be better without it. They also say it's a creature collector. It's not. It's a Vampire Survivors clone with unlockable characters. That said, it's a fun Vampire Survivors clone. The art is super cute, the upgrade/meta progress shop takes a while to fill out, and there's a bunch of unlockable artifacts that you can take into a run. All of the characters have a different kind of attack which is really cool but I'd like to see better balance between characters as some are really strong and others are really weak (RIP nature scorpion). I'd also like to see the mid-stage upgrades feel more impactful. As an example, getting all the CDR tomes in Vampire Survivors feels very impactful while getting all the CDR hourglasses here feels underwhelming. I think 7 USD is a good price for the experience but I can't help thinking how much better it could be.

I'm really enjoying this game so far. 20 Minutes Till Dawn is one of my favorite games, and this game scratches the same itch for me. As its title implies, during the course of a run you don't only control a single character, but a whole squad of cute creatures that regularly spawn and help the player defeat incoming critters. Every once and a while a random challenge might occur that either forces or encourages the player to get out of their usual play pattern, for example by going out into the rest of the map to collect flowers or by staying put in a limited area to break a static object. There also seems to be quite a lot of characters in the game, like 20+, which is pretty promising in terms of variety and content. All in all, I do recommend this game, especially if you like the aesthetic of games such as Pokémon and Digimon, where you befriend cute monsters and fight alongside them. It's a good spin on the bullet heaven genre, and I'm enjoying it.
