I have some strong mixed feelings with this one. On one hand, this was a fun coop challenge. Good voice acting, snappy controls, and music was good even if the phrases the Turtles said were annoyingly repetitve after awhile. It was good to see Leatherhead, Shredder, Beebop and Rocksteady. Played it with a friend and we largely enjoyed ourselves but here are my gripes: * The start of this game is very frustrating. I can see how other people would have quit far sooner than we did. Enemies attack with surprising speed and accuracy, including the lightning (which made the game far harder than it was). Upgrades at the start also didn't feel like they made a big difference until about halfway through the game when we realized we were finding it easier to take out big bosses but unsure if that had anything to do with the upgrades or just repetition. * It's quite grindy. And while I don't mind the grind (especially in a coop), there isn't enough story to cover all of the upgrades. I am a fairly mediocre player at these kinds of games, so I can imagine some people might need a few more upgrades but I think I probably barely scratched the surface of upgrades and did enough of the challenges to get enough upgrades that doing more doesn't really unlock anything new or interesting. * In addition to being grindy, it has something like 6 or 7 different kinds of collectable currency. Too many currencies. Some upgrades require you to be every turtle. But since you don't know how far along you are, you don't know when to change to another turtle for it to be meaningful. If you stay with one Turtle the whole game, it doesn't really effect anything. * The 4 turtles that definitely played differently, maybe even to a fault. Raph is clearly the best. He's fast, hits like a tonne of bricks, has plenty of health and his speciality is crit damage. There is really no downsides to him. The worst was my favourite turtle in the series: Donatello. He's the opposite of Raph and HIS speciality is health regeneration which sounds amazing until you discover he regens two bits of bugger all. * Donnie's inspirations were also the worst in the game by far. Not exactly useless as any upgrade is better than no upgrade but that's not setting a particularly high bar when you have so many better choices. Michaelangelo's tool was useless. * It also had two DLC characters that I should have bought at the start of the game if I wanted to use them because there wasn't enough story to keep me interested to pick them up half way through the game because I had barely upgraded much and still had two other Turtles to play. * The story is a hot garbage fire. It spends so much time building up and kept me excited all throughout. And without spoiling much, all I can say is the ending is VERY disappointing. If they didn't make it such a huge focus, I would be far more forgiving. Makes metalheads involvement at the start seem integral to the plot and at the end, nothing more than an inventory counter. I bought it on sale and that would be my recommendation to others.

If you liked Hades, this is a very-similar gameplay loop. If you like TMNT, this is a fun action game with a high amount of replayability. If you like both, stop reading and purchase it already. The loop is pretty simple, you clear rooms of foot soldiers, mousers, giant rats, and ( with the DLC ) Punk Frogs. after each room, choose from a few upgrade options. eventually fight an area boss. If you lose, return home and upgrade before trying again. If you win, return home, and upgrade before trying again, but harder . Other positive notes. 1) Each playable character fights differently. No offense intended at Shredder's Revenge, but it took DLC in that game before there were significant differences, and predictability isn't good for a ninja. 2) The number of powers you can obtain is significant. Two runs will rarely have the same build. 3) Multiplayer is done correctly, IMO. 3 other people can just drop in and go, retaining their own account's unlocked items and upgrades. 4) The gameplay loop is satisfying! Beating Shredder feels good, yet you are still left wanting to go again. Losing doesn't feel so punishing that you want to throw your controller.

Depends On What You Are Looking For In This Game So here is the thing about this game: 1) If "singleplayer" experience is what you are looking for -> This ain't it (more built for multiplayer and sadly there is no way to have CPU players play as other characters). 2) If "story" experience is what you are looking for -> This ain't it (very short/basic story, but the dialogue/character artwork is nice). 3) If "couch co-op" experience is what you are looking for -> This does the job good enough (but you can lose track of your character due to camera not following your specific character). 4) If "online co-op" experience is what you are looking for -> This does the job the best (because in online at least each player has their own screen where the camera can follow their own character + bigger chance of getting a full party for the run). Overall, I don't think this is a "bad" game by any means and it is very solid as a "multiplayer-focused" beat 'em up game, but I will say the online experience can feel "unresponsive/laggy" at times and AFK players can ruin the experience by wasting other players time waiting for them to do a power selection (only way to deal with those is to "kick them out" if you are the host of the run). Anyways, the game is fun for short burst online gaming sessions, but I would recommend getting it on a sale/discount if you are still interested in it after all what I've said above. Final Rating: 7.5/10. (P.S: If you were looking for a more "singleplayer/story-driven" TMNT experience, then either go play "TMNT: Shredder's Revenge" OR go fire-up a PS2 emulator and play the LEGENDARY "TMNT 2: Battle Nexus (PS2)", aka THE greatest TMNT game ever made to date IMO)

Sewer jokes aren't my favorite but they're a solid number two. This is easily my new favorite TMNT game. I love the new rogue lite features and I love seeing what new build I end up with in each run. The art style is fantastic and the boss fights are tons of fun. If you enjoy the turtles games then you will almost certainly love the crap out of this one!
