Recommended - with caveats. Early game: 8/10 Mid game: 6/10 Late game: 2/10 Recommended because the early parts of the game are fantastic. Early progression feels fun, the building mechanic is fun to get lost in. Gameplay and performance is smooth, even with 100s of things on the screen. (Played this originally on my ROG Ally with buttery smooth performance). Graphics are great. New weapons are fun to unlock and try out. Early game is an 8/10. The caveat is that after the early game progression and winnings, it becomes a grind, and highly RNG dependent, and not in a fun way. The sense of discovery goes away after hour 5 or 10 - I think you can encounter every boss and enemy on the first planet. Every planet after that just introduces some environmental hazards. You may still have things to unlock at this point, but it feels a little more of the same. Mid game (hours 5-30) is a 6/10. Once you've collected all the easier achievements and blocks, the last few things are an absolute chore. The character specific achievements (called "contracts" in game) don't reward you with anything new - no new blocks or weapons, just XP points (which you can already get just by beating a level), so it doesn't feel that exciting to get them. Some of these contracts are absolutely terrible, and are nothing more that a repetitive grind. I do enjoy a good grind in my games, but this is not that. Achievement hunters beware - the hardest achievement to get it the "1,000,000 kills" achievement. Someone did the math on this, and said it would take about 20,000 hours for him to get this at his current pace. Endgame (30 hours+) - 2/10
This is one of those games I can't believe someone made. It's Istrolid but 3D, it's Lego Mad Max, and it's a Blast Corps roguelite! TerraTech Legion, in concept, is way too good to be true. It's such an impossible premise to pull off that it sounds like a scam. Nobody's even trying to make a game like this. Now here comes the crazy part - it's not a scam! They actually made this game! The graphics are weirdly great, not that it matters. There are so many different weapons and whatnot to use, and they don't have to be tediously unlocked. You start out with the full bucket of knockoff Legos to draw in the RNG. The environments are extremely destructible. The framerate stays consistently high even with like a hundred enemies on screen, explosions, the whole nine yards. You get a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of bonus crates, at least at the start of each level, so you really don't have to wait to start experimenting with your vehicle's design. And its systems are so much... better than its balance. Everything's got like twice the health it should have and three of four vehicle's starting weapons suck. There's a really longwinded skill tree for each character that only sometimes powers you up enough to matter. They had to buff the starting character with a recent patch, but she's still basically made of glass. The other three's vehicles usually get stuck at their default size and can't have many weapons because they can't select the standard type of structural block in bonus crates. Also there's only 4 characters and 4 stages. This game gets an 8.5 out of 10. Like, it almost makes it into my Steam favorites list. If they fix that stuff I'm complaining about it'll probably be a perfect game.
I love the RNG element that some are complaining about, keeps things fresh and makes you try to come by with weapons you maybe wouldn't normaly pick, some of which turned out to be better than I thought. A fun game to unwind for an hour or so after work, well worth the price, imo.
Fantastic gameplay loop, addictive building process, plenty of options and variety. however, there are almost zero vibes, no story, only 4 levels, and nothing memorable besides the vehicle building. worth the 10 bucks they are asking, hence the positive review, but there is almost no meat hanging off bones of the gameplay loop
It's good, but needs updates. TerraTech Legion is definitely worth the price for the amount of content you get, but as a "Survivors-like," it still feels a bit behind the curve. While building your own car and seeing all those cool weapons in action is super fun, the game is missing essential genre staples like a way to ban or block parts you don’t want. Since you can’t filter out items, you’re often forced to take gear that doesn't fit your build, and the lack of a recycling system to turn those unwanted pieces into something useful makes the late-game feel a bit more frustrating than it should be. My biggest gripe, though, is a major oversight in the building mechanics: if I want to shift a whole section of my car just one block back, I have to tear the entire thing down and rebuild it piece by piece from memory. It’s a tedious hurdle for a game centered on construction, and it makes me really wish there was a proper sandbox mode where I could freely experiment with builds and parameters before testing them out. It’s a solid game with a lot of potential, but it needs some serious quality-of-life updates to truly compete with the best in the genre. Edit: Since my launch review, a lot has changed for the better. The developers actually listened to community feedback, and they have already added block banning and a recycling system. Honestly, it is awesome to see. They continue to update the game rigorously. The future looks incredibly bright for this one. The game is in a really good place right now, and it is clearly only going to get better from here. I still think it needs a Creative Mode tho.
