I don't... I don't want this to sound like a normal review of the game. Sometimes when I try to put things to words, the meaning is lost. I went to school to be an anthropologist and my life has panned out nothing like I thought it would. The world came with hands and I caught them on my chin and I fell and I fell and I fell. And maybe this is random, but I was taught that sometimes the best lessons come in a story. At least, I was taught this was a believe of certain tribes of indigenous persons in North America. I find often that the who and the why of a lesson is often far less important than the feelings and thoughts you take away. All this to say, this game was one of the most beautiful lessons I've ever had the pleasure of sitting down with. 3 years of therapy, medications, trying to knuckle down and push through, haven't even done half of one percentage point of any metric that this game could put in across... just a couple days. You can see the hours I put in, I think. And normally, I would leave it at that. These thoughts, these feelings, are for me. I don't leave reviews. I think it can be somewhat pretentious to assume other people give a **** about anything I have to say. But I was reading some of the stuff in the credits, and, well... I guess I just wanted to let the developers know that they made something special to me. And I'm sure that they've heard it from other people but Beat did say that one of the things she liked most was knowing someone liked what she made. And, screw it, maybe my voice does matter just enough to help this get the attention that it deserves. I love this game. It does not need to be perfect. It does not need to run 100% perfectly all the time for me to love this game. I read some review about that earlier. This game does everything it needs to do, and everything I want it to do, perfectly. It might be the answer to 'What's your favorite game' going forwards. So thank you. For making this game. You didn't make it for me, but it is for me, and it was what I needed. Thank you.

It's full of scuff. You can see every rough edge. It stutters. I don't even know if it's a particularly good rhythm game. It's beautiful to look at. The voice cast give it their all. The characters are wonderful. This game sucks. This game is perfect. I don't know if anyone has ever enjoyed making a video game as much as these people LOVED making a video game. You feel it the entire time you're playing. Please, please play it.

you know how indie punk rock has terrible, distorted audio quality, meant to be played on the cheapest speakers you've ever heard at the loudest volume possible, and feels so raw and real for it? this game is a little bit like that. it has so many little technical issues, so many visible seams, so many moments that don't flow perfectly. weird controls, slightly buggy moments, pacing that can be a little bit off... i can definitely imagine people disliking this game. it is very much a "your mileage may vary" kind of game. but at the same time... it has made me think and feel and consider and look at things that no other game really has. it has been years since a game has made me ugly cry like this, and for very deep reasons. so if i were to give it a negative review for those flaws... it would be like giving a bad review to a romance movie whose action scenes had poor camerawork, or giving a bad review to a story-focused visual novel whose animations often dropped frames. it's... yeah, those might be valid flaws, but i cannot in good conscience hold them against the media in question. yes, it had flaws. but it conveyed the message it wanted to convey, the emotional impact was there and it was not diminished by the flaws. if anything, in some cases might have been amplified. as someone who followed this since just after the kickstarter, my expectations for this game were through the roof, and it still blew them away. just not quite how i expected it to. in short, it was very good.

Never ever stop making things. Even if the world says it's bad. Even if you think it's messy or imperfect. Whatever feelings you've been holding on to, be it grief or joy or regret, put them into the things that you make and send those feelings into the world. They will inevitably find somebody to resonate with.
