I LOVE THIS GAME! I absolutely loved Unpacking and wanted something similar so this really hits. Plus I got it on sale for like 70% off so it was fantastic. Full disclosure: this is nearly the EXACT SAME as Unpacking. Like if I didn't know better, I would say a game engineer or developer working on Unpacking created this as well. So if you like Unpacking, get this!!!! The art style, the mechanics, the time frame behind the challenges is the same as Unpacking. That said, there are some big differences, like preferences left behind from clients or changing the color of an item. This is such a cozy game and perfect for playing while watching streams or waiting for downloads to go. Good stuff.
In Unbox the Room you're an interior designer hired by clients to unbox their belongings and make their new homes into their dream spaces. A sandbox mode is also available for free design. Gameplay & Settings This game has the same vibe as Unpacking (another great one to play)! You unpack clients' belongings and put them where they are supposed to go. There is also a sandbox mode where you can get creative and have all the items unlocked to design your own rooms. The client’s objectives for the most part are pretty easy to fill and there is a tutorial that starts you off in story mode that does a good job on showing you the basics. Eventually you will be able to recolor items and do larger designs as the story progresses. Visually the game is cute with a pixelated cartoony look with some relaxing music in the background. Settings & extras include; language selection, audio controls, resolution and display options, controller icons and sensitivity. The game also supports mouse & keyboard (which I used). Overall Experience I enjoyed the story mode in this game, although a bit on the shorter side. It took me about 2 hours to complete the story mode and get all the achievements. I recommend looking at the achievements while playing so you don’t miss any but overall they are pretty easy to get. Unbox the Room is basically an Unpacking style game for a fraction of the price and in my opinion, more accessibility friendly because it is less "finicky" and sensitive where the controls are concerned. The game works perfectly on Steam Deck in both handheld and docked modes without needing to adjust any settings and you can easily switch between controller or mouse and keyboard, depending on your preference. No bugs (so far) and the first part of the game is a tutorial style with very clear instructions and control hints so, the game won't be difficult to understand. It's definitely a sweet, cosy game that doesn't feel overwhelming... yet. The art style is lovely and the UI is easy to navigate. I like the addition of the moving vans and the little objectives from clients. So far, so good from me and it gets the stamp of approval for Steam Deck!
This game is exactly like unpacking, you unpack rooms and place items in different areas they belong. Key differences from unpacking are that you also unpack furniture and can move furniture around the room or into different rooms. If you love cozy games you'd absolutely enjoy this one. You can even pet the stuffed animals!
