This game is just so incredibly good. How can one make a game where every system is almost flawless? (okay needing to activate the buttons by hitting them while navigating sometimes gets frustrating and feels like they shouldn't be timed in some places) Basically I boot the game, start playing, play for 2 hours and then I say "this should be enough progress for this session" and then find myself playing for at least one more hour. Combat was satisfying and deep enough, There is a good variety of weapons and chips which you can use to make different builds. Puzzles are at their sweet spot of difficulty as I am usually bad at those and I could figure them out by having to stop and think for just the right amount that it feels non-trivial and also not infuriating. I also as a person who gets lost way too much in metroidvania games found the map layouts and hints very well designed. I did get stuck like 2-3 times in the whole game and I had to look up where to go. The map is clear and you can put pins on it and after I started putting pins wherever I could NOT go at that time, I started progressing way faster and cleaner as I did not check those pinned places over and over again like I would in a game without them. I also obviously removed the pins whenever I got access to those parts of the map. Characters are also pretty cute and the pixel art is just incredible. Anyway just like how I felt in the game I wanted to post a short positive review and it already got out of control. JUST GO PLAY IT ITS REALLY GOOD.

For a game whose central gimmick is a time limit for every single character it's insane how it doesn't matter in the slightest. You play this game for the good mix of combat, exploration and dungeon crawling. The time limits essentially boil down to "give this character the limited time extension item enough times to get their special item" which means you're basically doing it for a material reward, regardless of how much time they actually have (time which is extremely forgiving, I beat the game without anyone even CLOSE to dying). Nevermind the fact that the items are mostly not even worth it considering how many useless systems this game has. Crafting, digging, fishing, all present and all completely ignorable. Cogs are a cool system in concept but they're way too much of a hassle to craft for how easy the game is and how little they help you. Chips are the best system but most chips are still very underwhelming and, again, crafting them is not worth. Every system more or less feeds into the others which would be good if they weren't all just not worth interacting with! The game is much more fun if you just go through it and ignore 90% of these systems. It features a pretty good combat system, which is unfortunately brought down by the extremely annoying, terribly telegraphed enemies, with attacks so fast you can never reliably parry them. Also has a really fun movement system (shout out to the spinner) with some creative level design utlizing its hidden quirks to make a very interconnected world, though some of the key items you get make it unbearably tedious to explore (the ice gun in particular). And as for the dungeons, they are equal parts really fun and, particularly the last two, extremely infuriating. The bosses are very underwhelming too. What is just outright bad in this game is the writing and the dialogue, with the story being very much nothing too. And this game in particular really needed actually good writing, considering you are supposed to feel compelled to save these characters and make careful choices of who has the privilege to have their ever diminishing time left extended. Except you don't even really interact or learn much about them, regardless of the bad writing, so in the end you don't even care if they die, which, reiterating my main point, makes the central gimmick of the game is not at all a factor. But overall, it's a still a fun time, I just wish it was a little more focused on what it actually is.

if you're looking for a top-down action-exploration game with 2D zelda-esque dungeons, bloodborne-like combat (dashes and parries), and an overworld that feels rather metroidvania in its puzzle solving and item-based secrets, then this is the game! also there's lesbian robots

First off, this game is fantastic, it does Zelda better than modern Zelda games, and has a unique time limit mechanic that keeps you on your toes and forces you to make difficult decisions your first time through (unless you are extremely skilled and fast). This is one of those Knowledge Based Games, so I highly recommend going in blind and this is an easy recommend to pretty much anyone who enjoys action games. There are tons of secrets, items, and routing logic to find. The game reocommends an order to the dungeons, and I wasn't able to find the hidden ways to do it in a different order, but its pretty clear they are there just difficult to find on your first playthrough. I think thats awesome, because different players at different skill levels will have different experiences. With that said, I want to point out a few issues I think you should before playing, so you don't put the game down halfway through. There is an annoying "navi" like companion that has a tendency to talk about literally anything in the game world, often multiple times, and does. not. stop. As far as I know there isn't a way to turn off her "hints", but some of them legitimately spoil puzzles and progression. She straight up tells you how to complete areas, and for that reason alone I wanted her to die. If you let her die, you can't upgrade your character, and I don't remember this being communicated. I really thought the devs were screwing with me. There is a "True Ending", and to get it you have to enter several rooms that are not marked on the map, and there is no indication whatsoever that they are there. No hints anyway, no riddles or puzzles. Nope, you just have to slam your face into every wall until you just happen to walk through one of them to get a mcguffin. This is really irritating, and it seems like you aren't supposed to find it without a guide. I'll change this review if someone points out how you are supposed to know which walls don't exist. There are secret rooms like this already in the game, but they all have a noticeable out of place feature, like the walls not aligning properly, a sound effect, or a scratch mark on the ground. The true ending progression rooms don't, and I do not understand that design decision. Finally, they make you fight the crab boss twice, and that was kinda lame. Those three points aside, I really enjoyed this game, the movement and combat are very fun and satisfying. There's a good deal of customization, and there constant tension from the story time limit that pushes you forwards and forces you to make consequential decisions. Fantastic game.
