ok, i just here to spread the words that you can play the final update for the old version of this game thank to someone here in discussion, we can play the old version of this game just open up setting for this game then go for the beta section Afterward,just click the beta participation and choose bootcamp public test branch Don't worry, it may sound different but it literally the old version final update just before this new version come so to those who enjoy this game before the update come, you can now play it to your heart content
As a disclaimer I'm biased towards this game as a Polish American and a huge fan of Polish history, but even so this is an excellent game and one of my all time favorites. If you enjoy history, RPGs, Darkest Dungeon, and games that are legitimately meant to have challenging features then you will love this game. The game play can seem simple on your first play or two on normal difficulty if you choose your starting characters, but if you want a really fun challenge then increase the difficulty and randomize all your starter characters. An absolutely authentically fun and addictive game if you're a history nerd; and if you're not just know how important the Warsaw Uprising was and is to the character of the Polish people. I really support this game and the developers and I've bought it as a gift for most of my steam friends. I really look forward to seeing more updates and improvements from the developers for this already amazing game!
TLDR; Warsaw is only worth full price if you are already a fan of games like DD or really into WWll. Pros: - The atmosphere during missions is entrancing with cracking of distant gun shots and bombshells - Real strategy can get you far in the game, while RNG is still present (especially in combat), your decisions still matter - There is a lot of optimization potential for each member of your squad between different weapons that each have two unique abilities, and each main character having unique active and passive abilities unlocked with xp - Replay value for at least 3 runs. You will most likely mismanage your first run and there are enough characters that you won't unlock all of them with just one run. Each character has their own unique skill-set and backstory that you unlock the more you use them. - Combat is gritty and truly feels like a back and forth firefight between two sides who just want to leave the interaction alive. Seldom will you feel like you have a foothold on the enemy with every turn holding the potential to change your next 2 turns. Some people dislike this aspect but I found that it added to the immersion of guerilla warfare. Cons: - The soundtrack, while enjoyable, consists of very few tracks. You will hear the same 3-4 songs very often but they're by no means bad tracks. - Early game is brutal. You almost definitely WILL have to get recruits early on even if its just to have an extra medic while the main on heals. Each recruit costs 100x supplies which could be half of your supplies early, especially on harder difficulties. - Combat is familiar but not the same as other games like DD. Instead of a single row there are two rows and cover items to better protect units. Each ability will either target a single space, 2-3 spaces horizontally, 2 spaces vertically, or 4 spaces in a square. Learning which of your units can target specific spaces in integral to your success in the later game. This can be a steep learning curve for people expecting a DD-like game. - Still unrefined in terms of bugs. I had the game crash only once during combat but the game saves your progress after every event in missions so even if it crashes you won't be set too far back. Bugs here and there when maneuvering a lot of the ui but rarely was it immersion-breaking. Conclusion: Warsaw is a perfect example of how games can be educational and still be great as a respective game. Warsaw does not hold your hand and teach you about the Polish uprising or WWll, it simply puts you in command of a branch of the home army that is responsible for the capital. I read another review that only said to be sure you know about the polish uprising and how it ended before you play and I think its sound advice. Would play again, maybe wait for it to go on sale if you're still on the fence.
Bad reviews are from people who either got salty over unlucky RNG or can't play a resource management RPG without losing their minds or recurring to cheats. First of all, if you LIKE Darkest Dungeons, you'll love this too. Second, it's a RNG-based RPG with Resource Management set in WW2 but seen from the eyes of Poland civilians that went to arms to defend their homeland. That's the beauty of it. You're using unprepared civilians with minor-to-none military understanding that are trying their best to defend their cities, their homes, against actual Nazi troops. If you mess everything up at first, just WING IT and keep going the best you can, you'll eventually either get a good RNG or learn how the inner mechanics work and make your own strategy on the fly.
At the beginning, I saw the sad and angry reacts to the game, and as a fan of history I knew I needed to check this out. Warsaw did prove to be a rogue-like that required you to be of sterner stuff to grind through the missions. Unlike Darkest Dungeon which it has been compared to, the heroic elements in this story are almost unstated. In Darkest Dungeon there is an overall goal, there is a reason as to why you make the effort, and the anti-heroes you employ have a seed of aspiration and larger than life in them. In Warsaw the reason has already been made and you merely follow through. You start out under-staffed and under-resourced, and the odds increase over the passage of time. Enemies become more numerous and lethal, and you will find yourself at the receiving end of alpha strikes and burst damage instead of the other way around. In Darkest Dungeon you find yourself gambling and pushing your luck. In Warsaw it becomes a matter of doing only what is needed to achieve your goals and avoiding unnecessary risks and casualties. I thought Warsaw might be a grim experience. I am used to grim. I was wrong. 8 hours in and when I took in my first child soldier the magnitude of the tragedy hit me when I saw the dialectic of the man in helmet and the undeveloped child still playing with toy trains in his spare time. Warsaw is not a tale of heroism. It is actually a story of tragedy and unimaginable suffering. In hindsight it seems like a miracle that any people could have pulled themselves out of this shadow of destruction and hopelessness and loss. But I remember something and then I paraphrase Nietzsche: have man his why for life so will man endure any how, Man strives not for only happiness. Only the Anglo does that. Lol. Much respect and thanks to the developers for bringing us this small window into our past.
