Last week, I was debating of getting this game because of the reviews that it was missing a lot of translations. But reading other reviews I learned that some reviewers were overexaggerating. So, I decided, I'll bite the bullet and try it. And I have to say that "Windstop Strategy" is a game that I literally could not stop playing. Rarely do I push other games I'm playing to the side and focus on one game but this game is truly addictive. Definitely one of the best strategy RPG's I have played in the past few years, and I play a lot of strategy RPG's. It's awesome and there is a lot of replayability because depending on your choices, it will affect your relationships. For the first run, I chose the righteous path. Being a hero, saving those in need. Granted, there is that dating sim aspect where you boost up favorability with a person and in the end, you will see how those choices affect you. Funny thing is that I was actually focused on the "childhood friend" that you were arrange to marry, but somehow as the game progressed, a lot of the choices was to talk to a guy's beautiful hot Mom Is Literally Fine [wink wink] over and over again. I didn't think anything of it until the ending shows where all those conversations with the mom, would lead to. But there were other choices I'm sure I could of taken that would have affected the game and made me evil and would lead me to having closer relationships with other people. But for different playthroughs, if you want to hook up with someone, you would definitely need to make sure you get closer or conquer that person's home area. Also, I totally missed out on "Kismet cultivation", I was so busy focusing on the main game by the time I found out about it, there was no more money that could be made unless I sold items but the items you probably are stuck with give you hardly anything. So my first playthrough was the following strategy: - Choose the Righteous Path (be a hero, save the world) - I focused on my main fighters but having healers that deal with lifesaving and another with poison proved to be very important. I stuck with two healers with every battle. - I found that having characters with fist or claw fighting and even pole fighting were much better in battle for me than sword fighting. The swordfighters I got, they were stuck on basic movesets and no matter how much I trained them, that moveset didn't set well with that character. - As I conquered areas, I would try to recruit six from each area. - I found Dodge to be most effective in armor/clothing selections than Defense. - Focus on building up characters that can get multiple hits in one time. - Save up points that allow you to add an extra player in battle. It makes things much easier to have 9 people fighting vs. six against the enemy. - My first playthrough, I had around 50 characters. Just remember that recruiting characters is important because that final boss, you will want to have as many characters available to fight as it's going to be a half hour or hour long battle. So, level up everyone and be prepared! THE TRANSLATIONS: First, let's get to the part that many people have been discussing and that is missing English translations. Yes, there are translations missing from the opening intro to a few areas of dialogue. But 97% of the game has translations, 3% doesn't. THE MODS: Now, if you want to use the mods they are not English translated and by using certain mods, it will turn off translations for certain people. So, do know this in advance. The majority of the game has translations, there will be once in a blue moon where it misses dialogue and yeah, it may upset some people, but do know that it won't affect you from knowing what the game is about or enjoying the game. Unless you are hardcore of it missing translations here and there, then if that's the case, avoid the game. But it's not bad at all. Second, the game has a lot of characters and I love that! But the most interesting thing about this game are the mods because people have mods based on anime characters to other video game characters from other games with cut scenes. That was pretty much of a big surprise right there. Of course, there are other characters that those who want a wee bit of fan service will enjoy as well. Now as for the mods, there is one mod to get and look for the image of a gold book. Install it through the game and what this game will do on your main HQ, will add a store of level up items. For 5000 coins, you can purchase a gold book to immediately get your characters to level 25. Is this needed? No, but I will tell you, the final boss and the opponents towards the end of the game are so darn frustrating that leveling up nearly all your characters makes a difference. Also, some achievements you need to be normal to higher level to open. But the mod with the video game character with blue/purple hair, is possibly the best character to have in your team because she one hit kills everyone. There is also a mod with the RE:ZERO characters of Rem and Ram and you have to pick one to join your group. I ended up getting REM but her main move is a powerful heal everyone. That was awesome to see! So, the mods added by the fanbase of this game really adds something. And the other mod that helps is the unlimited moves. You are given like three moves, and because of this, you'll miss a lot of the building favors scenes, because you are busy fighting cobras, bears, wolves to make money to purchase things. There is another mod, that is very good but you will probably need a translator if you can't read the Chinese characters and that is an item adding mod. You can easily input the amount of items you need for an item, weapon, outift. But the useful part of this is selling it and becoming a billionaire, which will make your life easier especially for KISMET updates. So, that's another mod I found useful. WHAT I WISH THE GAME OFFERED FOR QOL: While I loved the game, there were a few key things that I wish can be fixed in the next game or update. - TRAINING - I don't like training a character just to find out that they can't use that moveset without their EXT from being halved. - Move the AUTO to the right - In a really huge battle, sometimes the auto is in the way of selection and while selecting your moveset, clicking on auto will cancel your selection. So, I wished that was moved over towards the right versus the left. [Note: this is not a big deal as huge fights are not prevalent through the game] - Release a Soundtrack for this game!!!! - More character variations. Almost all healers look alike. A character editor to change clothing or hair color for those joining your team, would be cool. - Intro should have translations. It's the first thing people will see when playing the game, so at least put English translations for that, so people don't get weirded out. - There has to be a better way when viewing an item that it doesn't get cut off because it's so long vertically, perhaps use more horizontal space. Sometimes for me to see information on an item, I have to drag it to the top because it gets cut off. Overall, "Windstop Strategy" is a wonderful game that I absolutely enjoyed! It's a strategy RPG mixed in with visual novel/dating sim that will definitely deliver hours of fun. Don't worry too much of the reviews of the translations, the majority of the game is translated. But if you want 100% translations, you'll probably have to wait. But if you are good with 95-97% of it being translated, then definitely check this game out! I am not familiar with Xia Start but I will say that "Windstop Strategy" is a fantastic game and the added mods to add a whole different aspect with fanmade characters and skills definitely adds to the enjoyment of this game! Had a great time playing it!!! And definitely one of my favorite Strategy RPG's to be released in the past few years.
