It's a good game, with a long list of qualifiers: - It's an older game without many modern amenities, and you will probably need to use a guide to complete. I basically failed it the first time I played through blind without a guide, and only came back years later to actually finish it (and used a guide in places). - There are some bugs (at least in the current English version...), one of which will stop you from getting some of the endings. - The current English version is NOT the latest the version, and does not seem like it will be updated (DLC/Update came out years ago and is not in the English version). This has some bug fixes and more content that the English does not have, and trying to find/patch is pretty challenging. - The translation is mostly acceptable. There's a few places where things aren't translated, but I can only think of like half a dozen places where something that was maybe important wasn't translated... which is still not great, and I don't know how important those are as I cannot read much Chinese. Overall the writing varies from okay to interesting, the story sometimes is good and sometimes doesn't make much sense, some of the ending slides conflict in weird ways, the translation is spotty and just 'fine' at best, and there is nothing too special about the graphics or gameplay... but if you want a martial arts hero simulator/trainer/RPG, this one seems foundation to the genre. It hits most of the major tropes and story beats, but gives you at least a decent level of customization in terms of your weapons, martial arts, and routes.

In terms of overall quality, it's hard to say that this is a "good" game, as it is VERY rough around the edges. UI, translation, combat, balancing, controls, endgame/ post-game...pretty much every aspect of this game needs work. However, I wanted my fix of Jingyong Wuxia RPG and I've gotta say, I had a great time for the majority of my playthrough. The turn based management segment of the game was genuinely enjoyable, and the game features an extremely strong cast of characters with fantastic, witty writing that made me care a lot about its world and story. All in all it's a flawed but ambitious game. The developers really swung for the fences with this one, and I feel like this game probably influenced/ helped pave the way for better games that came after it. For me in many ways this game felt like Wandering Sword 0.5 - much less polished but has better story and characters. It's definitely worth checking out for Wuxia fans!
