寇莎梅特：困世迷情 Consummate:Missing World is a game I did not really know what to expect from at first. I play as Consummate, a girl who wakes up with no memory and finds herself trapped inside a strange house with a man who seems to know much more than he should. At first it feels like I am simply trying to escape a locked room, but the further I get, the more the game starts changing what I think is actually happening. I like that the mystery does not give everything away straight away because I am constantly finding little pieces of information that make me question the situation. The exploration and puzzles are the part I enjoy most. I can walk around different areas, examine objects, pick up items and look for things that might help me move forward. The puzzles themselves are usually fairly simple once I understand what the game wants from me, but some of the solutions are hidden behind very specific actions or choices. That can be frustrating when I have no idea what I missed, but I also like the feeling of finally working something out after searching through the rooms and trying different things. There are lots of little secrets and jokes hidden around the areas too, so I have a reason to examine things instead of rushing straight through the story. The branching story is probably the biggest reason I kept playing. There are 18 endings, and some of them are completely different from what I expect when I first start the game. My choices and actions can change what happens later, and there are plenty of strange situations where I can end up getting a bad ending if I make the wrong decision. I like this structure because it makes the game feel less predictable. I can finish one route and still feel like I have only seen one part of what is actually going on. There are also two main playthroughs needed for all the achievements, which gives me more of a reason to go back and explore different possibilities. The story itself is where I have the most mixed feelings. There are some genuinely interesting twists and the mystery becomes much bigger than the opening suggests, but it can also become extremely strange. There are moments where the story jumps into ideas that feel completely unexpected, and I had to accept that the game was never going to stay as a simple escape room mystery. I actually enjoy that most of the time because I like games that surprise me, but some parts can feel like they are trying a little too hard to shock me or confuse me. The English translation can also be awkward in places, which sometimes makes certain scenes harder to understand than they should be. There is a surprising amount packed into the game for such a small RPG Maker project. There are seven chapters, a lot of different locations to explore, hidden secrets, extra content after finishing the main story and a huge number of Steam achievements. I also like the gallery and the extra information it gives me after I have finished the main experience because it shows more of the ideas behind the game. The pixel art is simple but has plenty of personality, and the music does a good job of supporting the more mysterious and emotional parts of the story. It feels like a lot of effort went into adding small details everywhere. My biggest issue is that the game can sometimes make me work harder than I think it should. Some progress requirements are so specific that I can easily get stuck without knowing what I have missed, and certain bad endings can happen before I really understand why my choice was a problem. I also have to repeat parts of the game when I am looking for different endings, although being able to speed through the text makes that much easier. I think a better hint system would have helped a lot because I enjoy solving puzzles, but I do not always enjoy randomly testing every possible interaction until something works. Overall, Consummate:Missing World is a surprisingly ambitious little mystery game that I ended up enjoying much more than I expected. I like the strange story, branching endings, exploration, secrets and the way the game keeps changing what I think is happening. The obscure progression, uneven translation and some of the stranger story decisions hold it back from being one of my very highest rated games, but there is a lot here for such a small RPG Maker adventure. For me, the best part is simply not knowing where the story is going to take me next, because every time I think I understand the situation, the game gives me another reason to question it. Rating: 6.9/10
