The game is worth the buy if you like horror games with fun characters and nostalgia! Buddy Simulator 1984 felt like a love letter to the evolution of video games. Although the game is horror, it has sweet, tender moments and 100% worth the money. The music was beautifully done, and each song in the sound track was so thoughtfully made! I personally have a huge knack for video games with secrets, and boy does this game have many! Finding each small little detail that helps put the story's puzzle pieces together created a nice immersive effect to it. Each copy feels very personal, as no play through is the same. Your buddy customises the game to your interests, which I thought was the sweetest thing ever. Because of this, certain moments can feel more happy or even heartbreaking. You get to name your buddy which makes them feel more connected to you than anyone else. As said earlier, there's many secrets to find, but you can also find said-secrets in your files! I personally think it's very neat to me. If you like Doki Doki Literature Club or Undertale, I heavily recommend this game as it has the sweetness and connection to characters that Undertale has, but also the secretive video game aspect of Doki Doki Literature Club! If I could play this game for the first time ever again, I would.

If you are the type of person to totally engage with every aspect of the game, the story is probably the best I've seen in a game. It's unnerving, heart wrenching, and leaves you questioning how disturbed the developer actually was in reality. Just keep in mind you wont get the complete story in one playthrough.

I got this on sale for around 4 dollars and don't regret it at all. the game only takes a few hours to complete but it's left an impression that will be spinning in my head for a long time. I will say, the bulk of the game is not like the demo, so if you're looking for a spooky text based adventure you're in the wrong place, on the other hand, if you're looking for a spooky undertale inspired adventure, proceed

a conceptual masterpiece that's worth it for the emotional whiplash alone. I see so much of my own life and my own history with unwise friendships in this game; playing it felt like reopening a wound. I wish I'd had buddy simulator when I was thirteen. maybe things would have ended differently

I really wish there was a "middle" rating rather than a "good" or "bad" because I'm completely on the fence as to whether I'd recommend this or not. I'm leaning more towards "good" because this is an indie game made with a lot of passion and we absolutely need more of those in the world. But most of this review is going to be criticism. The good: the way it goes from text adventure to 2D to 3D is cleverly done. Graphics and music are charming. The problem is actually playing the game. It just isn't fun, at any point. Despite its short length, it drags. The puzzles are so boring that the game itself makes fun of them, but that doesn't make them suddenly become interesting. The turn-based combat takes forever and has no real strategy or stakes to it, and blocking feels hit-and-miss as to whether it actually works or not. The humour is fine but it never stops feeling like a lesser version of Undertale, and it does nothing with the "glitch horror" trope that many other games haven't done already. Nor does it have anything profound to say about its own story of toxic friendship. The secret lore is actually really cool and the game would have benefitted from having it be more front-and-center as it enhances the story, but in its current state it's too well-hidden for most people to ever find or read. The ending is also highly underwhelming. There's a lot of passion and talent in this game and for that reason I'd recommend it. I just wish it had been a more fun game with a story that stuck with me, rather than a reshuffling of concepts already done much better in other games.
