Buddy Simulator is what happens when a game decides emotional dependency is a feature, not a bug. Pros: Clever genre shifts Genuinely unsettling atmosphere Fantastic use of player data Cons: I now feel bad turning the game off The guilt is real Buddy deserves better than me You don’t play this game. You form a relationship with it... And then you slowly realise you’re a bad influence.

I cannot comprehend how this hidden gem doesn't get the recognition it deserves. Don't look anything up about this game, no more reviews or spoilers, just dive in and experience it all for yourself, it's short and worth the prize. It sure got me really invested and made me feel the feelings once I reached the end. If you want to know more, don't expect an spectacular gameplay or combat system like Undertale. Buddy Simulator 1984 focuses more on the narrative and your interactions with your buddy in a similar style to KinitoPET but with its completely unique personality. It's silly in a good way when it has to be, slightly spooky when it has to be, and all with a deep motive and satisfying lore exploration beneath it all. Don't forget that, okay? :)

If you are the type of person to totally engage with every aspect of the game, the story is probably the best I've seen in a game. It's unnerving, heart wrenching, and leaves you questioning how disturbed the developer actually was in reality. Just keep in mind you wont get the complete story in one playthrough.

I got this on sale for around 4 dollars and don't regret it at all. the game only takes a few hours to complete but it's left an impression that will be spinning in my head for a long time. I will say, the bulk of the game is not like the demo, so if you're looking for a spooky text based adventure you're in the wrong place, on the other hand, if you're looking for a spooky undertale inspired adventure, proceed
