A great indie soulslike made my 3 developers. Takes a little bit from dark souls, bloodborne, sekiro, Thymesia and khazan and mashes it up into this gem of a game. Some of the smoothest combat I have encountered in an indie game. The combat is simple yet surprisingly deep at the same time. The voice acting and story aren't the greatest, so don't go in expecting to be blown away by the story. Exploration is good, with some branching paths and shortcuts to find loot and treasure. Biggest gripe i have with the game is the lack of weapons and build variety. This game excels at combat and gameplay, so if you favor that in your soulslikes, be sure not to miss this game!

A charming, manageable, and atmospheric soulslike game. For some of the text, half the font size would be enough ;-)

This review will be a bit garrulous because I'm enjoying it so much that I don't want to take the time to write cohesively. Crimson Oath is the very best indie soulslike (depending on your definition of Indie; games like AI Limit and Enotria I consider to be AA). What's the most important thing in a soulslike? Combat feel. Crimson Oath does it very well; attacks match the style of the game. Not quite as fluid as Lords of the Fallen, but not as stiff as Lies of P either. Every action is very responsive to inputs, which is necessary given the game's parry focus. There does appear to be animation blending, and there are sprint/moving attacks as well as normal ones. One thing that kills indie combat for me are stiff animations that don't carry momentum; no issue with that here. Enemy variety and world design has been typical of the soulslike genre so far. I'm only a couple hours in and would guess I've seen 9 types of enemies, which is good. The first area that I explored had multiple loops and shortcuts, as well as very brief branches off the main path (think Dark Souls 3). The game heavily incentives exploration as it frequently grants items used to permanently upgrade your flask quantity/quality. The game has a solid progression system; stat upgrading is limited but equipment gathering is impactful (with 12 slots to use) and spaced well. Do not dismay if the combat feels basic at first; every "advanced action" you can take is tied to a physical item in your bag (it's basically a save flag, but visible to you). So you can't use right trigger attacks until unlocked (like 5 mins in), or parry until unlocked, or the gun, or the ability to dodge right after being stunned, etc. The combat has continuously evolved so far, which I enjoy. On technical side, the game is great and way more modern than most indies. Has all the upscaling and frame gen offerings, a fair selection of individual graphical effects with quality settings to edit, optional fps cap, and no LOD pop-in/flickering/distracting features present in the world. There is of course, minor jank. Notes for the developer below: - The voice acting is actually good, but something about the processing/mic makes it feel low quality. There is often an echo, or impression the speaker is talking inside of a wooden box, which doesn't match the environment the character is in and thus feels jarring. - The interact prompt should scan continuously. Right now if there are two items/people/interactables in my interact radius, and I interact with one, I have to walk away and come back to get the interact prompt to appear on the 2nd item. This is likely because the interact prompt for both interactables disappears after using the first one, and the 2nd one only appears when it first enters your radius rather than checking continuously (could just be once a second, doesn't need to be performance intensive). Anyways, great game, absolutely worth the cost of entry.

It's a great game considering its made by a 3 man studio. Great level design, challenging boss fights (on hard mode), and fairly smooth combat. A+

i want this game to get the love and recognition it deserves. So therefore I am putting a review up with only a little over an hour played on this game. I played the demo and had 3 different characters and had roughly 15-20 hours on the game... and let me tell you, this game for is awesome. The locations that I have been to (1st area & I believe the last area, what was available in the demo) are great. The scenery is pretty cool and beautiful in its own way. It has its own art style and it is also an indie developer... So you can't expect Elden Ring esc graphics, but nonetheless it is beautiful. The combat is nice and smooth and it is harder but better QoL wise and smoothness than the demo. I can and would recommend this game off of just the combat. The parrying is smooth and you do have to time it perfectly or you will pay. The bosses I have fought are pretty cool and in the demo, the second boss you fight in the first area took me like 2 hours atleast nonstop and I got that classic soulslike feeling of satisfaction when I ended up beating him. I did mess up and didn't level everything up like I should have, and also didn't use the skills and everything I had lol but that almost made it more satisfying lol. The game isn't too big at all, which I do wish it was longer, So I can only hope for more content to this game or a sequel or something. So yes I highly recommend this game and it is a great and fun game, and I hope to see more from this developer and to keep making games of such. At the time of this comment the game is priced at $9.59 USD which is absolutely great for this game. Get it on sale while you can! The base price is $11.99 USD which is still more than worth it! BIG SHOUTOUT TO "PARRY FRAMES" Keep up the good work and congrats on making a great indie soulslike!
