The only negative reviews i see are people downloading a mahjong game then complaining they dont know how to play mahjong. Edit for the FREE DLC: There is an unreasonable amount of content in this game and its one of the best roguelike deck builders I've played. They even listened to the reviews where people cried they didnt understand the scary Chinese tile game and added a mode that lets you effectively play Poker with your tiles instead.

I've seen people complain that this game doesn't have enough of a Mahjong tutorial, and they're wrong. The entire game is a mahjong tutorial, with each character specializing in a specific part of the game. Just by playing you'll pick up concepts, first focusing narrowly on a single characters specialty, and then diversifying as you unlock more characters. The powers and items help keep every session fresh, allowing you to try different characters, builds, and loadouts if one strategy gets stale. The flashy designs of the characters and environments are charming, and elevate the game above other mahjong sims. My only complaint is the English VAs are very bad, so I play with the excellent original Chinese voicework. But there are a lack of subtitles for in-match smack talk, character comments, etc. These are not essential to gameplay but provide insight into the characters personalities, and its a shame to miss out on them.

I don't know who thought "Hey, lets combine Mahjong with Rougelike mechanics and add in hot anime girls" and thought it was a good idea, but whoever did it needs a raise. I had something of a love-hate relationship with Mahjong, originally being introduced to it in Final Fantasy 14's Golden Saucer, then moving on to versions with tutorials and ranked systems like Richii City and Mahjong Soul before eventually landing onto this game. At first, I was curious about Mahjong. Then, I hated it because I couldn't understand it at first. But, I pressed on because I knew there was something to enjoy about this ancient board game. Eventually, I actually started to learn to play it, then loved it. Then, I hated it again because I started to see how punishing it can be with rules like Furiten and Yaku. Add the built-in stress that any sort of ranked system provides, and that became the reason I nearly wrote off Mahjong entirely. Then, I thought; "Wait, aren't there a million versions of Mahjong? It wouldn't be right to hate it just because I don't like Richii Mahjong (especially competitive Mahjong). Let me find something that'll make me enjoy it again, because I don't want to give up on it." And so, I searched "Mahjong" and found this game in the search results. The trailer looked promising; single player, no ranked systems, and frankly, everyone seems to cheat at the game using magical powers. Sounds fun, even if it's probably not very authentic... and hey, it's even got hot chicks in it of all varieties. Right up my alley, right? It's safe to say this game revived my love for Mahjong. It's a fantastic spin on the concept by having characters who serve as boss fights; instead of clashing blades and spells, it's figuring out how to deal with them blatantly cheating at the game. And many of the bosses and their gimmicks are very well designed and seriously challenges you in a puzzle-game sort of fashion. You have a ton of characters to choose from, each being unlocked by meeting various criteria. Expect the typical rougelike setup; you grind certain kinds of currency over the course of many failed runs until you start getting strong enough to actually win a full run. Standard stuff, really. The progression isn't anything super unique other than being related to Mahjong, but the bonuses are well thought out. Things like adding permanent value bonuses to your tiles, increasing how many draws you can make before a round starts, and so on. The overall presentation of the game is quite good, if a little low budget. You'll notice some weirdness with animations and music transitions sounding a little off; nothing particularly bad or distracting from the experience. The OST in this game is... why is it so good? Who made this? Seriously, in a game about challenging hot demon women to games of Underworld Mahjong, the soundtrack is unexpectedly good and catchy, even if the lyrics are on the eccentric side. I never thought a song saying "Wow Demon!" Repeatedly while singing about making calls on tiles would be so good, but here we are. As far as gameplay goes, it's actually pretty authentic for the most part. The abilities you have access to varies upon the character you're playing, and you have the option to just play tiles the "normal" way or straight up cheating with abilities. The game expects you to use abilities and items as you get into higher difficulties, but it certainly is possible to just win via draws, concealed hands, and calling Tiles like a regular game if you want. And you do get rewarded more points for it generally (unless you're running specific builds/items at least). The game also expects you to know how to build higher value hands as well as abusing multipliers to score higher points. Whoever has the most valuable hand at the end of the round wins. It's a simple idea but the way the game plays with the rules and the freedom you have to choose how you score those points is what makes Demonic Mahjong so fun. Honestly, I highly recommend this game. If you like Mahjong but you want a more relaxed, unranked, and honestly, kind of absurd take on the game, this is where it's at. This is the game that got me to love Mahjong again, and that is easily worth a recommendation.

its balatro + slay the spire but mahjong instead of poker or cards. It's a good game albeit severely damaging to ones reputation. Honestly, I think the game has a crisis of identity, it should either be a serious mahjong roguelike balatro-like game or it should be a porn game. Ecchi is the cowards way out. It is very good though.

Slay the Spire + Balatro but with mahjong and anime girls. 11/10. Before starting this game I have no idea how to play mahjong. But this game is a decent enough teacher. Well the same way Balatro teaches poker hands at least. P.S: I recommend using either chinese or japanese voices, much better than the AI english voice at least.
