Background: I play other crafting/survival games/factory games. TLDR: Fun game, needs some balance and direction to gameplay loop. Not too stressful once you know what you are doing. Initial controls are somewhat of a learning curve but you will get used to it after an hour of playtime. Good for Dads/Moms who need an instant pause button if playing solo. There are bugs, game is EA. I recommend a "buy" today if you have nothing else to do and need a good game for the weekend. I really sank my teeth into this game to give it a proper review. 27 hours played in the last week since purchasing. For solo-players you will be at a bit of a disadvantage but don't let that deter you, majority of my hours are on my solo save. This is definitely a good co-op game... though co-op at the time of this review is a little buggy. You are just a dude (or group of dudes) who drives a train around to survive. You don't just drive a train, you also hop off that train to go get loot. Time is limited though (don't let the time run out). The train charges battery only when it moves. When you are stopped, the clock is ticking. Get off train, go loot POI, get back on train, make train go fast again, craft while train moving, stop train at next POI, repeat. The map is procedural. Pros: - Good gameplay loop - This game is chill, whether solo or co-op. I found more enjoyment with co-op. I like a game where I dont have to be entirely focused 150%. - The pause is actually a pause, this is a good game for Dads/Moms who need to walk away in an instant. Just hit ESC, get the kiddos what they need. - It's nice that the game provides a choice of which weapon/tool/buff to use on your toolbelt as you cannot have all of them equipped at once. - Many different things to craft for the four different tool belts you will have. This game will keep you busy - Procedural map Cons: (at the time of this review only 7/28/26) - Resource and Itemization is still in dire need of balancing - In my solo save only: It is hard to find Rations. - Gathering of Iso (a resource) needs to be buffed. I spent a lot of time in the glider. - You can go forward/reverse in the train but turning around isnt exactly built into the procedural tracks. You'll have to go the long way - Hunger ticks way too fast. Given that rations share the same need for food and crafted items, this makes it a very difficult choice to choose between better gear and staying alive.

I have to say, the concept behind this game is fantastic. Some people compare it to Voidtrain, but to me it feels much more inspired by Snowpiercer, and that's exactly what caught my attention. As a huge fan of the TV show, I couldn't resist giving this game a try. Unfortunately, I ended up refunding, until the game is going to be at better state. The biggest issue was performance. On High/Medium settings, I experienced frequent frame drops from 70+ FPS down to single digits every 10–20 seconds. It became distracting enough that it actually gave me a headache after 30 minutes of playing. Visually, the game also needs more polish. I understand it just launched into Early Access, but many of the textures, weapons, character models, and even parts of the train itself feel unfinished. I've made the mistake before of buying into games purely because I believed in their potential, only to be disappointed later. I don't want to repeat that mistake. I can't comment on the multiplayer since none of my friends picked it up, so I only experienced the game solo. Despite refunding it, I genuinely love the foundation the developers have built. The feeling of surviving on a train that's constantly moving across a frozen world is incredibly unique, and as a Snowpiercer fan it absolutely scratched that itch. I simply want to wait until the game becomes more polished, both visually and mechanically, before jumping back in. A few suggestions for the developers: 1. Make the locomotive fully accessible - Instead of teleporting into the driver's cabin, let us physically walk into it by opening the doors. It would make the train feel much more immersive. 2. Improve the exterior train doors - I'd love to see the side doors become fully interactive. Pull a lever, watch the door open, the exit ramp deploy, and then close everything manually from inside or outside. It would be even cooler if opening an exterior door temporarily sealed the connecting wagon doors to prevent the freezing air from spreading throughout the train. 3. Give the train more character - The interior feels a little too clean for a vehicle that's been surviving in an endless frozen wasteland. I'd love to see more wear and tear at the beginning of the game, with the ability to gradually repair and upgrade the interior over time. It would make progression feel much more rewarding. Also, please replace the elevators within the train with stairs if possible lol... the elevators just feel out of place. Maybe elevators could become a late-game upgrade instead. 4. Rework the gunplay - This is probably my biggest gameplay complaint. Shooting simply doesn't feel satisfying right now. Weapon feedback, accuracy, and hit registration all need work. If I had to prioritize one thing, this would be it. Overall, I truly believe EverRail has the potential to become one of those memorable survival games that people recommend alongside Raft, Voidtrain, and Subnautica. The foundation is already there... it just needs more time, more polish, and continued support from the developers. I'll definitely be keeping an eye on it, and I hope to return once it reaches that point.

I am giving this game a good review, based on my hour long playthrough and the idea that the dev will continue updating and adding to it. It is based on a very interesting concept and has potential. But it also needs a lot of work to be fun. What the game needs: 1) More than just one biome. Players need more to look at than a white backdrop 2) Oasis in the snow that have geothermal vents to charge the train. Players need a break from the timers 3) Some kind of wildlife POI. We need more than just ration packs 4) External events. Obstacles on the tracks. Riding through bandit camps. Robots attacking the train. Beyond all this, I think the player needs additional real world objectives. The train/energy mechanic is interesting, but it would be better if there were substation POIs where clearing them out and restoring power would have a permanent effect on the track in that area. Perhaps not consuming power, recharge faster, or deplete slower. This would be difficult to implement on an infinite procedural map, however. Looking forward to see what may become of this game. As it stands now though, its playable but bland, and the game loop appears to get repetitive quickly.

EverRail immediately reminded me of the TV series Snowpiercer, and that's a big compliment. The combination of keeping your train running, managing energy, and building up your mobile base creates a unique and engaging gameplay loop. I also enjoyed the extraction-style mechanics, where you have limited time to raid enemy bases and gather as much loot as possible before heading back. My only criticism is that the looting can become a bit repetitive. The enemy bases I've explored so far look very similar and feature the same enemies. Hopefully this becomes more varied as you progress further into the game. Overall, EverRail has a fresh concept with a lot of potential, and I'm excited to see how it evolves. Unique Game. A moving train is your base. When the train is moving, it generates power for your base so your goal is to get the charge close to 100% before exiting the train to explore and loot. Before exiting the train, you must gear up and prepare for your expedition which is only as long as you have power on the train. Once the train runs out of power, it's game over so you need to make sure you are back to the train and you get the train moving before the time runs out. It's essentially an extraction type game. You leave the train, explore, loot and kill and then return to the train where you will upgrade and go out again. Two things that can kill you is the cold outside or hunger. You can unlock better suits that keep you warm so you can stay out longer. Food is easy to come by, The world is pretty massive and there is a lot of content in this game. Enemies I've seen so far are just robots who shoot back at you but they seem stupid and are easily killed. For the price, I'd would say get this game. At first, it can seem like a lot to learn but once you get going, it's a lot of fun. Oh, and did I mention your train can spit out a glider that you can fly around in?
