From Frontier is a fantasy role-playing game developed by Doubles Core and published by OTAKU Plan that embraces many of the qualities fans appreciate in traditional Japanese RPGs while adding a heartfelt narrative centered on personal growth, companionship, and adventure. Rather than immediately introducing an epic conflict, the story begins with a deeply personal setback as the protagonist is abandoned by the woman he intended to marry. This emotional starting point leads to an unexpected journey alongside the second princess of the demon kingdom, who has also chosen to leave her former life behind. Together they travel to the mysterious continent of Lemuria, where both characters are given the opportunity to begin again in a land filled with promise and uncertainty. The game's narrative is one of its strongest features, placing considerable emphasis on its cast and the relationships that develop throughout the adventure. As the expedition into the frontier continues, players recruit new allies, encounter memorable heroines, and gradually uncover the personalities and motivations of those traveling alongside them. Romance plays an important role in the overall experience, but it never completely overshadows the larger journey. Instead, emotional character moments, humorous interactions, and meaningful conversations are woven naturally into the adventure, creating a cast that feels engaging and contributes significantly to the game's appeal. Lemuria itself serves as more than just a backdrop. The unexplored continent is portrayed as a dangerous yet beautiful frontier filled with monsters, hidden locations, and opportunities for discovery. Exploration encourages players to venture into unfamiliar regions while steadily strengthening their party through new equipment, abilities, and resources. The sense of building a future in an untamed land reinforces the game's central themes of starting over and embracing new possibilities. Every new area offers the promise of additional challenges and rewards, making progression feel satisfying as the world gradually opens up. Combat follows a familiar turn-based formula that will be instantly recognizable to fans of classic JRPGs. Battles revolve around assembling a capable party, choosing effective skills, and carefully managing character progression to overcome increasingly difficult enemies. While the mechanics do not attempt to reinvent the genre, they provide a dependable gameplay loop that complements the game's focus on exploration and storytelling. Character growth remains rewarding throughout the adventure, with stronger equipment and improved abilities creating a consistent sense of advancement as players push deeper into the frontier. Artistically, From Frontier delivers colorful anime-inspired visuals that suit its fantasy setting well. Character illustrations are expressive and distinctive, helping each member of the cast leave a lasting impression, while the environments successfully capture the feeling of exploring a newly discovered continent. Although the presentation reflects the scale of an independent production rather than a blockbuster release, the overall visual style possesses plenty of charm. The soundtrack further enhances the atmosphere by supporting emotional story scenes, peaceful exploration, and energetic battles with music that complements each stage of the adventure. Another notable strength is the balance between narrative and gameplay. Story sequences provide enough emotional investment to keep players interested in the characters, while exploration and combat ensure the adventure maintains a steady pace without becoming overly dialogue-heavy. The game successfully combines visual novel-inspired storytelling with traditional RPG progression, allowing each element to support the other instead of competing for attention. This balance makes the experience approachable for players who enjoy both story-focused adventures and classic role-playing mechanics. From Frontier ultimately succeeds because it understands its audience. It is not designed to deliver groundbreaking innovations or cinematic spectacle, but instead focuses on telling a sincere fantasy tale populated by likable characters and rewarding exploration. Its engaging relationships, enjoyable turn-based combat, and welcoming sense of adventure create an experience that feels nostalgic while remaining emotionally engaging. Players who appreciate character-driven Japanese RPGs with romance, exploration, and classic mechanics will likely find plenty to enjoy throughout this journey across the untamed lands of Lemuria. Surprisingly good with some actual moments of good writing and heart. Need to patch off platform though so that’s an annoying thing I wish these Devs would stop doing but the game is solid.
