Dantehhh...Kiss me, Dantehhh... Another gorgeous game by AstralShift, both visually and audibly. Not really a fan of Bullet Heavens (especially in early access), but this one's very welcome. In addition to the usual "pick weapon, then buffs," you manage a deck of four weapons, each with up to three buff slots. Placement matters too: some buffs only trigger on the slot to their left, others need to be adjacent, so your weapon order becomes part of the puzzle. You can also swap entire decks around (weapon + its three buffs) to shuffle your combos mid-run. My one complaint: runs end at 12 minutes and you're teleported straight into a boss fight. No complaints about there being an actual boss fight. But the whole transition is confusing on a first run. The timer counts up to 11 minutes, then suddenly switches to a 1-minute countdown, so you don't actually know how long a run is until you've already sat through one. Something like an upfront "20 minutes till dawn" style limit would've told you exactly what you're working toward from the start. On top of that, there's no explanation for why the boss fight starts right away. You just get teleported and you're suddenly talking to them. Overall: a very welcome game. For an early access title, it's already fun and smooth. Looking forward to seeing how it develops. In the meantime, I'd recommend checking out the team's past two titles.
Overall, I recommend the game, but at time of writing there are a few "hiccups" that must be addressed, that I assume might get fixed at some point before its out of Early Access. In fact, I'm editing this frequently since the initial post because the devs have been fixing my issues. - The controls are a bit...annoying, at least on keyboard. I find myself constantly getting stuck on tiny things and the "edges" of terrain that aren't easily discerned from the rest of the environment. You'll randomly dash and get stuck on stuff and take damage, and it can get irritating. Some of the hitboxes are a bit suspect as well. - Massive difference in the quality of weapons and ults. The spear ult is just the best at the present because it makes you invulnerable for enough time to go take a bio break. With bosses having a "final" attack phase where you're forced to just dodge for a period of time, having the ability to just hit a button and walk away kinda defeats the purpose of having this phase. - Sometimes you lose track of your mouse cursor, and unlike Vampire Survivors, you gotta aim. - Swapping cards back and forth can be a bit difficult with the UI and sometimes it gets stuck on a weapon/card. - There's very little content currently in the game. To be honest, I wish the devs would have let it bake for a few more months to put a semblance of an end game (maybe an endless mode with the ability to upgrade past level 3), or another level or two. This is very much a game that you should buy and shelve for later. These are the main issues I have. Outside of this, and most of these are easily fixable before release, this is a competent game with great music and a satisfying gameplay loop.
